    Forumfall has become a monster.

At the moment 1000 people are in there reading the news update from Tasos. It`s still the happy holiday news from Dec 24. This will be a messy launch thats for sure.

Noone is going to know how the game is doing until 6 months after launch.  So, once the game comes out and 300k units are sold there isn’t anything to get worked up over.

Game of the year?  Try most anticipated game of 2008.  it’s the best idea of 2008.  Its true, DarkFall has a lot of great ideas, but I’m going to need to see it.

Id rather get a free Gyro.

Don't be terrorized! You're more likely to die of a car accident, drowning, fire, or murder! More people die every year from prescription drugs than terrorism LOL!

I think those numbers dont reflect WAr as much as it reflects the desire for a new game. I wager most of those 300K beta subs are from WoW players than they are from WAR.

Still, from Darkfa''s standpoint, its good, free , hype. However, after AoC (which had about the same number of beta applicants) I think a lot of players are being cautious about Darkfall

at its best darkfall will amass around the same subs as EVE or LOTRO which is respectable but thats only if they can pull off their claims which i hightly doubt mostly because there is no such thing as a true sandbox

something I don't think you realize.. is people are only signing up to play the beta (which should be out any day now) and not to participate inthe communityl.

If any client deserves a .torrent it's this one.  With all the people that will be impatiently waiting for the download it should mean a massive swarm and a fast download... until each person that hits 100% logs out and gets into the game.  Hopefully they'd counter that by having a few hundred seeders from the company.

    I can see it now:

    Memo to all Adventurine employees:

OMFG WE'RE RELEASING THE CLIENT TODAY AND NEED YOUR HELP!  EVERYONE... THIS MEANS YOU, JANITORS, MAIL ROOM WORKERS, INTERNS, EVERONE.  Take home a copy of the client and seed the HELL OUT OF IT.

    love,

    Tasos

The numbers are respectable but unimpressive.  Most of the decent mmo's have been out for years now and people are bored with them or feeling somewhat stagnated and want a new experience.  The recent round of alledged triple A mmo's failed to meet expectations leaving the mmo community dissatisfied and anticipating the next round of mmo releases in 2009.

Most mmo players are ready for the next big thing, whatever that may be.  It's a prime opportunity for a solid mmo to have a beta, capture an audience early and publish strong.   The question becomes, what will be a solid mmo in 2009.  Darkfall?  Aion? Chronicles of Spellborn?  All three have their hurdles.  Small development teams with limited funding, poor to nonexistent to downright incompetent marketing, and pvp focus which remains to be seen whether or not  such an mmo can succeed in todays market, WOW excluded.

AION and Spellborn both would have very high beta interest if they were to have NA betas.

Lmao the numbers are great! Blows SWG at release out of the water and since its indeed a 'niche' sandbox game what were you expecting? Its not as if they even have an ad campaign lol!1!1!1! Since they are running on player driven hype you have to at least acknowledge that its impressive.

Btw personally I couldn't care less if Darkfall has a beta or not, aslong as its here and ready by the 22nd and the lewt exchange via bloodletting can begin - I'll die or win a happy pker.

Stop approaching this with your linear mentality.

I need to just save a reply to post every now and again that goes something like this:

If you spend less money making a game then it doesn't need as many subs to be a success.

Darkfall doesn't need WoW numbers to be a success.

Big companies make big audience games. (see: WoW in mmos and Halo in consoles)  If you don't like that type of game you look forward to something from a smaller company.

It's more active users over at Darkfalls forum then MMORPG.com every time I check.

But still, of course people sign up for beta. Has always been this way and wont change.

You can refresh the screen and watch it going up every few seconds, thats crazy considering they have not advertised.

  • SynikaSynika Member Posts: 100

Templarga: You are aware of the fact that most people only sign up to a games forums when the Developers give a concrete release date.

I think I signed up for the Beta about 3 times over the past few years lol.

I almost signed up for a 4th time but it actually remembered my details. So at least I know I've been signed up for quite some time. xD

Anyways yes this game will get a tonne of beta testers. Dont expect that to translate into subs though.

As someone said. See age of conan.

Currently waiting for the MMO industry to put out something good.

Ok I almost never, never use this term.  But please let's not be a fanboi over this.  Fact is it's free and you get to play for free.  People love free stuff and the mmo audience continues to grow.  Ofcourse they will have people signing up for beta.

They have also learned that the less you say the more excited that desperate gamers become.  I hope this game meets their expectations.  Darkfall is like a hot girl that agrees to go out on a date with you, but every time you go to pick her up she doesn't answer the door or has some lame excuse why she can't go out.

I say,  go into launches with a level head.  Listen to what they say and what they DON't say.  Look at past behavior to gauge future behavior, and then you have a more realistic expectation of what is to come.  And ofcourse, the same advice goes for that hot girl too :)

WAR, which spent roughly 50% of its development budget on marketing, had 700K beta applicants.

this is amazing. i frequently communicate with an old friend of mine who's worked in marketing for over a decade and his jaw dropped when i told him. Darkfall appears to be the most successful example of grassroots viral marketing applied to a software product ever.

WAR ended with around 900k applicant, AoC also had a ton ( was it 700k or was it 500k closed beta applicants? ). While WAR had spent a lot on marketing, the game was only in development for a total a three years as opposed to how long has DarkFall been talked about? 2001 ish so that is 8 years of built up viral marketing. All this shows is that with the help of real marketing and more communication to the public you can amass hundreds of thousands of more people interested in your product.

Uh no just rumored to be a free test, never confirmed and when is that going to happen in the next 9 days?

No again, after trying to take her our for 7 years I give up on the bitch and let her get the dregs that are left over slobbering at her feet like sophmoric sycophants that think she will give them a BJ.
