I hope they are both great, and both fill a void for as many gamers as possible.

I try em all so I hope to be there for both launches.  As long as they aren't in the same month I shouldn't have to choose...

A nice looking game or vaporware ... tuff choice.

I do realize this, but I ask the question why? why does it take 4-6 months to translate it to english? Im still going to pre-order the NA version but its still disturbing that NCSoft makes no effort to get Aion to its fanbase in NA in a timely effort. IMO 1/2 of a year is not acceptable for a translation alone. If significant content has been added, that is a different matter.

There's more than just translating going on.

and they've done the same thing for L2, this shouldn't be a surprise.

I'll try to give an example:

Have you ever read the book called "Musashi" written by Eiji Yoshikawa. Its a Jananese book that was translated to english. Its a very good book but the story and what the char's do in this book seems very odd and out of place for us westerners.

Same with Aion, they need to translate it but mostly they need to rewrite the story / lore in order to fit western culture or the game is going to seem odd and out of place.

Well, to answer the OP's thread title: Aion! With the constant delays of Darkfall's release date, I won't be shocked if Aion ends up releasing before Darkfall.

they also have to edit some gameplay mechanics to better suite the wester gamers, also have to edit the game into other european languages i think, (dont qoute me on that though)

I'll try both because both have elements that i have some hope can make a long term home to me.

The most important the possibility that comunity cooperation (RvR, fortress and so in Abyss and the whole game design in Darkfall) is something that makes an important part of the game play.

Anyway i'm more confident in to be able to play Aion than Darkfall, because the lag of information and Aventurine being a newcomers in the market.

Aion-is an actual finished product and is being enjoyed by millions, granted it hasn't been released in the states yet.

    DF-isn't

First of all, it's Korean, not "corean."  Secondly, all MMOs have gold farmers.  Thirdly, I doubt you've played AION yet, and I know for a FACT that you haven't played Darkfall, so how you can make EITHER of these comments with any sort of integrity, based on FACTS, is beyond me.

That being said, I'll answer the OP's question....

As of right now, it indeed appears that I will be playing AION.  I've been looking forward to it for a long time.  AND....I know that it actually is forthcoming.  Darkfall is pretty much an unknown denominator at this time.  It may or may not release and if it DOES release....only god (read: Tasos) knows when.  I'm not a huge fan of FFA PvP, although, I am a huge fan of many of the other freedoms that DF PROFESSES that it will afford the player.  I am an old UO player, so of course, Darkfall does promise some things that would intrigue me.  But....they also are dragging behind them a record number of broken promises, and misinformation, in my opinion.

My HOPE is to get to play both.  The REALITY, at least for now, is that I will indeed play AION.

Ok that is a reasonable response to my concern about the delay.

Calindor I was by no means suprised as many games have staggered release dates. I just do not agree with it. especially a 4-6 month stagger I still think it could be done in a more efficient time frame 1/2 a year is a long time.

Edit: deleted long rant as i dont think it solved anything If someone is in the process of quoting I guess youll see it.

I think there is little doubt at this point that you should go with Aion.... NCSoft is light years ahead of A venturine when it comes to the companies involved......As far as we know Darkfall might even be a scam...At least you know Aion is a solid product and that NCSoft isnt going anywhere...... Darkfall might release then take the money and run for all we know......

In my two cents, I'd say that AIon is going to have a bigger subscriber base than Darkfall

Try Battleground Europe.  It has no traditional economy, therefore no gold farming.  Another thing BE has that Darkfall would do well to emulate is factional pvp instead of free for all.

If you don't like the style then it's best you don't play something you don't like.

I play both of them if either game can do as good as they want then it a good game to play for a long time for me. But I play darkfall first for dog people then Aion later. I hear haks a problem on Aion so maybe if they can fix I play.

  • joeshmoejoeshmoe Member Posts: 84

I'll be playing Aion for sure. I've been following it for a long time now, and everything that I've gathered about it thus far hasn't dissapointed me. DF, on the other hand, doesn't interest me in a big way TBH. But even so, I'm the type of person that has to try everything out for myself, so I'm still going to try out DF....if it ever releases....
