Rated so high because it was very promising, and still is. I have impressions for 6 months from beta and month after release and they are:
PROS:
1. Simplified gameplay (similar to WoW)
2. Great artwork.
3. Great combination between Open world PvP and PvE.
4. Very stable and polished on release compared to any other MMO
5. Huge and beautiful dungeons.
CONS:
1. Scenarios ruin Open PvP and immersion of MMO (similar to WoW)
2. Too much and huge high end zones, so even high populated servers looks a bit empty.
3. Still have some things to be polished and added/completed.
4. Too huge expectiations from most players for jsut released MMO.

I think WAR it is rated what it is mainly because the larger majority of people are having fun playing it.
The developers took a few risks and tried to inject a few innovations into the game (i.e. public quests, large scale PvP, the Tome of Knowledge). Although these innovations aren't perfect, the devs are twinking it constantly to improve on them.
This game is constantly compared to WoW, with some justification since WoW borrowed heavily from the Warhammer universe. Blizzard is an excellent game developer. In a way they remind me of the Japanese electronic companies and auto companies in that they take something that has been invented elsewhere and improve upon it greatly. However innovation is not their strong suite. In the case of WoW the game is an aggregate of Warhammer, EQ, AC and so on. It's funny how so many people seem to think the MMO history line started with Blizzard's second generation game. Maybe that is because most WoW players jumped into the MMO game genre with WoW. But, I digress,,,,
As for me I have fun playing WAR. I don't have eight hour chunks of time to play a game and I find that I can log in for an hour or two, join a warband and go tear assing around oRvR for awhile and log. It isn't everyones cup of tea, but it suites me (and others). If everyone liked the same thing the world would be very one dimensional.

Pros: Warhammer was released in a year where its only new competition was Age of Conan and some asian F2P grinders. Narrowly eeked out a win against the hot, new exciting MMO "None Of The Above" by two percent for "Best New Game of 2008". Grats Mythic!
Cons: Still had to compete against LOTRO, WoW, and Eve Online as "Best Overall Game of 2008", finishing behind them all. (but finishing ahead of F2P "Atlantic Online" Grats again!)
But that's only if you put stock into game ratings.
Its an MMO, its just like every other MMO that has been released, some people like it, and those that don't, bash the crap out of it. Its been like that since I was in Meridian 59 and UO was released, and I'm sure it will continue.
Is it the greatest MMO ever created? Nope.
But currently it the most enjoyable one out there for my $15.
I don't enjoy raiding, and I like RvR a lot. So my choice is simple really. When the next developer comes along with a better PvP/RvR MMO, I'm pretty sure my $15 won't be far behind.

Ok, I'm usually a nice guy and I have played WoW for 2 years but... simplified game play to WoW? Are you serious? WoW is so simple and not invloving at all I was playing a flash game a couple of days ago and it was more fun thatn WoW. I used to love the game but.. what the hell was I thinking? Start up > kill boars ect for no reason.. where as in WAR It involved you in the setting and environment and has a MUCH better style.
answer guys? tell us the pros and cons of the game....
Pros:
• Open field battles are a blast, and some are truly epic
• The classes are very diverse and enjoyable
• The armor looks great
• Open grouping: great concept, works well for PUGs
• Good quest map, Tome of Knowledge
Cons:
• 3 separate Tiers = disjointed and non-immersive game world
• Scenarios = fun but instanced, detracts from immersion
• PvE feels unfinished and repetative, but has potential
• Public quests = great idea: needs more variety; right now there are too many, and too much alike
• Keep sieges aren't great: not enough variety in keeps, siege engines uninteresting, choke points are frustrating, siege battles can feel repetative; should be overhauled, IMO
• Much of the population has WoW mentality: farming for gear > trying to have fun
Overall a fun game that I'll continue to subscribe to, but feels like it could be so much better (my theory: EA pushed them out before they were ready!). Worth casual play, but it won't be a massive time sink until they finish it, and they have a long way to go. When I log in I almost always have fun, however - and that's what it's all about, isn't it?

Pretty much.
Also during keep sieges, the 'RvE' players vs keep lord is... incredibly boring to say the least.
Yes I hope Mythic does something about the static, uninspiring keeps. Like you said, RvR is great in open world, but it's frustrating and boring during keep sieges.
I agree that it's fun. If you forget what an MMO is supposed to provide, then you will enjoy it.
But strictly as an MMO where people don't necessarily want to have fun 100% of the time and want to feel part of the world etc.. well lets just say there are better options than WAR.

All new games in here got high rating and then lower. Why, after 2 months, is so high becuase people vote like that. Why do people vote like that? I guess they like it.
You can see the comentaries in the rating section. There are suually good and bad ones.
There are a lot of threads about the pros and cons, the reviews, the problems, the good things, etc (saying this in case you really want to dig in the info and read it).
I am having fun in WAR right now. Is it perfect? No. No MMO is perfect.
My pros: lots... resume in one word: fun.
My cons: some problems with the high rank contant (fort sieging, RvR gear, etc). Good news is that actually Mythic tries to fix them. Sometimes they screw it more but they try it. I hadnt seen that in other companies that make MMOs. Usually it took them months and months just to accept the fact that there is a problem.
In resume: the game has the rating that people give to it.
High rating... because 1) it's not WoW and 2) people believe the game has potential.
I had high hopes for the game but stopped playing 2 months after launch. Lots of crashes, queue times for RVR, cookie cutter PVE, ...
Public quests are great... but aren't too far from PUG'ing dungeons in most other games. Yes, I know there are differences here... I do. But, not really enough that it's that big of a deal.
I was a fan of the game at launch and was excited for something new, different, etc.,..
it gets a high rating because of what it will become, not what it is right now.
and what will become of warhammer, more playable races/classes , more items to use , diffrent looking armor , lvl cap at 40 ? it will be 50 in about 2 years.
they made this game in such a way , with all the things they can add to it, it will become a damn good mmo.
problem is though , not many people play it.
ea mythic dug a grave for themselfs by trying to over hype it. and the return was disapointment when it wasnt to everybodys liking, but that dose not mean warhammer cant redeem itself.
i've come back to the game and i find it to be fun sometimes, not all the time . and from what i can tell you.
i can see this game getting more people to play it if and when they start giving a damn reason to play it to begin with.
my reason is, im wating for the tomb kings, vampire counts.
dark elfs are neat but i was hoping for a legit pet class, not some stupid weak gimp squig herder or gimp melee white lion. and i dare not play order, cause more of order are a bunch of kids
and kids piss me off.
but time will kill wow and and people will find themselfs coming to this game. all i can hope for is that ea mythic wake up when people do come again, and deliver.
It is always hard to explain why a certain game got higher rating than another one. WAR is not bad but it kinda got too high ratings currently for my taste, but of course I don't always agree with everyone else.
Pros:
* Great lore. Really great even.
* Easy to learn.
* desent graphics, not great but not bad either.
* Nice massive PvP.
Cons:
* Instead of using Warhammers brilliant system or the system from DoaC it is far to similar to Wow.
* The PvP don't feel so meaningsful like in Daoc.
*Combat feels really slow and it takes ages to die or kill anyone.
*PvE sucks.
Overall I give it 3 of 5. Hopefully Mythic moves more to Warhammer and Daoc, the game do still need a lot of more work to rise it's point in my book. But it is kinda fun.
For me the game was entertaining for a few weeks but after that it got a bit dull and repetitive, overall I don't really think the game has any long term appeal.

No online forums so you can complain? You are complaining right now, in multiple threads. I guess that isn't enough to get your fix? There are tons of forums out there that the developers read and help you out if you are having issues.

I think he means "official" forums.
And I'd tend to agree with him. There is absolutely NO reason for a MMO that's ranked in the top five in MMOs in the US does not have an official forum for customers to voice opinion at.
Just "thinking" about starting an official forum four months after release is somewhat irresponsible. I mean, you can make an MMO, but not a website? They do those in grade school.
I rated this game highly at release. The things I liked were mainly about RvR holding a central place to its gameplay. I found that WAR overall builds on what DAoC did best: RvR, but without the timesinks I hated in DAoC such as the mind-numbingly boring crafting that was critical to success in RvR (or the entire ToA expansion for that matter). On the other hand, I decided not to continue with WAR mainly for reasons relating to its performance. I got a lot of stuttering and strange visual and sound bugs while playing. The stuttering in scenarios in particular were a major game-breaking issue for me. I do plan to come back to this game in the future.

I somewhat agree that official forums should be something every top MMO should have, but I don't think it is needed IF the company already interacts, shares everything with customers through a forum.
I dont know about VN, but WHA is updating it's site regularly with features and stuff, I'm especially a fan of their Dev tracker that tracks every bit of comment made by any mythic/goa employee anywhere. WHA or VN do everything official forums should, so why have official forums?
It's not that they can't, but they don't feel the need to and I agree. Even though you might feel official forums are needed, the fact is that in this situation, it is not.
I don't know the reasons why they want to change this policy (not having official forums), but I'm pretty sure it will change nothing regarding the state of the game.
