No online forums so you can complain?  You are complaining right now, in multiple threads.  I guess  that isn't enough to get your fix? There are tons of forums out there that the developers read and help you out if you are having issues.

I think he means "official" forums.
And I'd tend to agree with him. There is absolutely NO reason for a MMO that's ranked in the top five in MMOs in the US does not have an official forum for customers to voice opinion at.
Just "thinking" about starting an official forum four months after release is somewhat irresponsible. I mean, you can make an MMO, but not a website? They do those in grade school.

I somewhat agree that official forums should be something every top MMO should have, but I don't think it is needed IF the company already interacts, shares everything with customers through a forum.
I dont know about VN, but WHA is updating it's site regularly with features and stuff, I'm especially a fan of their Dev tracker that tracks every bit of comment made by any mythic/goa employee anywhere. WHA or VN do everything official forums should, so why have official forums?
It's not that they can't, but they don't feel the need to and I agree. Even though you might feel official forums are needed, the fact is that in this situation, it is not.
I don't know the reasons why they want to change this policy (not having official forums), but I'm pretty sure it will change nothing regarding the state of the game.

    Why are official forums needed?

While they are in no way a "game breaker", meaning I would never play a game without an offical site, they ARE important.

As a customer, you are paying for a product. You expect a certain amount of competence and professionalism from the company providing what you pay for. If that company decided they don't want to do something, or want to change something against what they sold you on, would you rather have an official site to voice at.. or a "third party" site?

You get an answer from a third party guy and then the maker says, "We didn't say that, HE said that. We have no control over their site." No accountability.

You put up a scathing but accurate post (as is your right as a paying customer) because promised things aren't there and you can't even log onto play what you are paying for. The 'third party' site goes "POOF" ,edit, and you never said anything. The maker says "Sorry, we never saw that. We don't control their site."

There are plenty more reasons why a MAJOR MMO game needs a site. Smaller games don't. It's too much manpower and money to keep it running, I guess they could be fixing stuff with the extra help. But a game that sells near 1 million boxes in the first month, touts how well things are going with subs and content... and then they have no timetable to put one in four months later? That's sounds professional? Heck, even Darkfall released a website (so far, that's all they released, but they have that)

Well, to each his own then!

I am a paying a customer and the thing that I expect from the company is for them to listen to players, be aware of the issues, and fix them. Whether it is official or third party forum, It doesn't matter really.

Also, as far as I'm concerned I'm not seeing these problems that are supposed to require official forums. All issues, technical or not, are known to Mythic and every time a new problem arises they are quick to acknowledge it.

Furthermore customer's concerns, ideas etc. are not only taken into consideration, they are even fixed / improved  quickly.

Even though I have some issues with the game, the developers are doing a good job IMO.

Anyway it doesn't matter because they're gonna have them sooner or later.

Another debate on religion... i mean official forums...

I understand people might prefer official forums, but its a matter of choice.  To me it does not matter where the developers communicate with me, as long as they do so (which they are).

What I dont' understand is this issue of competence or professionalism.   They give you an official way to submit feedback or voice your concerns on their official site, its just not in a forum format.    Is Mcdonalds incompetent or unprofessional for not putting forums on their website to complain that the burger you purchased in store 67831 only had one pickle on it?

Warhammer has a professional site that is updated daily with communications, the ability to submit feedback & bugs and more functionality than most games with its realmwar pages.  You can interact with developers on 3rd party sites no differently than I would expect to on their (soon to be released?) official forums.

I read dev posts everyday from WHA & VNboards.  Where is this finger pointing he said/she said that you are complaining about happening?  I'm not trying to pick a fight, i'm just curious.  I am aware of a handful of posts that get deleted because of profanity but they are balanced out by the tons of posts that are completely negative and still available because they are communicated in a mature and respectful manner.

    dude, lmao  ..... darkfall sucks

the armor you get in that game is the worst i have ever seen,

you get what, all these abillitys at your hand but, if you dont use one certain abillity enough you become weak in it.  that sucks.,,

the game is nothing but a stupid zergfest, snare root, melee beatdown , on to next target,

that is very fun wow, no skill required too. geeee i cant wait.

    and last but not least,

if you do manage to get in a decent guild  , you will allways have to patrol your town to defend it cause the guild master is to lazy to hire actual guards to defend and then you will be bored to tears

dark fall is going to fail.

you heard it here first  ladys and gents

warhammer has potential to fix their game ,

as for dark fail ?  nope

Fair question to ask, doesnt' sound like a fight picker to me lol.

The thing is about 'official forums', majority do like them, few don't. Its pretty much a standard industry type thing for that reason. If people didn't like them, more companies would have less of them, as they eat resources. People get used to replying to companies directly in this age of customer service that comes from India for a product you just spend 2k on down the street. Again, I think its a fair and actual worthwile question to ask. Few don't think it is and I'd never be able to convince it was, until they actually had a problem they thought was serious. That's generally the way of the world; it's all good til it hits your backyard.

A specific example of someone deleting a post of legitimate questions someone didn't want to answer? If it existed, I couldn't show it to you now because it would already be deleted. No one says this is some type of industry wide rampant thing lol. It was just an example of WHY to have a official site, not "Hey look what happened to Joe over here." That's an all day unnecessary thing.

I don't think your pickle analogy is very relevant, because it's trivial. I could just as easily give you a company that sells baby monitors that has an official website, where people wouldn't dream about NOT having companies respond to them. Or car companies without official forums to alert consumers about recalls and such and ask direct questions. Again, just because one/two companies don't have them, and 10% don't care about them or wouldn't use them, doesn't mean 90% think it's a bad idea. I mean, you could talk pickles, and I could talk serious situations in favor/not in favor of websites.

I was just expounding on one person here who said it was a big deal. You and EE think it wasn't, that's all. I agreed with his point which for purposes of this thread so far, its 50/50 on who thinks official forums are necessary and not.

This might be a good poll in the general though.. maybe I'll go make one.^^

Thanks for the well thought out and mature reply. The pickle analogy isn't about a pickle. Its about McDonalds offering up forums for user Q&A. Just like people whine about trivial stuff in Warhammer and expect a developer to answer a three page post on why there is more of x stat instead of y stat on this virtual belt, I put that in the same league as random joe complaining about missing a pickle on his cheeseburger. In fact, what If instead of missing a pickle on the cheeseburger I got food poisoning and was sick for week? Is Mcdonalds incompetent and unprofessional because they don’t have forums on their website?

In the end, warhammer is a video game. It's the essence of trivial. Just like this discussion.

What people want, is to be heard, on official forums, because they don’t want to waste all the time typing out these ridiculous arguments like my own and not be heard by the most possible people...
