It is good news if you are one of us that want to play DF and you get in the free trial.  I would imagine they will give EU player priority so I probably won't get in.

Yes Enteri28 you are right there is a free trial period but the description doesn't sounded to me like "fair equal chance to all"..

And these pre order thing sounded like  "pay me for i let you in at release before anyone else" what is an additionally issue for me ..

Don't forget supposed we should all playing from januar 22 on ...may trapped in server qeues ..but we should..

Did you miss the free trial part?  If you pre-order without trying then that is your own fault.

Did you miss the part that only a fraction of everyone who wants to trial the game will be allowed to do so.

Darth is putting his foot down because they basically want money from a ton of people who WILL NOT be allowed to trial the game.

That my friend is what we call in the industry "Bullshit".

So I am glad Darth has finally seen the light of the white border.

I am not even going to say I told you so on this push back. I have gotten banned from MMORPG so many times for backing up my belief that Tasos is full of shit, that I honestly do not care to anymore.

We will all be right back here on Feb. whatever in the hell they want, for another pushback, see you all then.

LOL what?  The pre order won't even open until mid Feb he said.  Everything you mentioned is speculation.  We have no idea how many will get into the free trial between Jan 22nd and mid Feb.  To say a ton of people will not be allowed in is speculation.

    Wow...

It is good news because if you compare it to what might of happened if they tried to force a release on the 22nd.  This shows that release is definitely coming.  They are taking money which means they can't just not deliver.  There is going to be a massive test coming shortly and there isn't an MMORPG that has ever released when I didn't think to myself, 'they should have pushed this back a little bit longer.'

People are just overly dramatic because it is Darkfall.  Almost every MMORPG in the history of the Universe pushes back, and pushes back again.

Tasos was an idiot to say the release would happen on the 22nd and then confirm it, but people make mistakes.

I fail to see what is so big and bad about 'this'?  A one month delay in launch??  Seriously?  This big of a deal?  To me the amount of information that came across and the plans they have make more sense then forcing a 22nd launch.

Tasos was an idiot for saying and confirming a 22nd launch, but that has nothing to do with the final product.

Remember WAR taking pre-orders in March, then releasing in Sept.?  To think that just because they are taking money that it will release soon is a little bit naive.

There is also always the option of not offering preorders, just because he said it doesn't mean it will happen.

Are people missing 1 big thing here?
Tasos said the game would release on the 22nd of Jan,then 1 week before he suddenly realise's that they havent stress tested the game or indeed they dont have what it takes to let too many people into the test.
Did he wake up this morning and suddenly think "omg the server's,I never thought about them"
Also they always said they wouldnt have pre-order's early access but now they will????
    R.I.P

Well we want to play DF.  If we get in on 22nd then we win even if it isn't launch.  If I don't I will be a little disappointed, but I start back to college next week anyway.

Like Tasos said, they got behind schedule.  Obviously, they hadn't stress tested the servers yet and they didn't do an open beta today like was rumored.  If they had started OB today, maybe they could have don the stress testing before 22nd., maybe not.  So I don't really see the gaps here except for the pre-order.  Even then, pre-orders are only bad if you don't try the game first.  Tasos did say there wouldn't be pre-orders, but shit happens you know?

Ohh come on,I mean it is nice you stand up for your game but try keeping a bit of an open mind.

"like tasos said, they got behind schedule"

He said at the coffee event that the game would release on the 22nd and that was what less than a week ago?

Did they all call in sick this week?

Lets be honest here if the release was 2 weeks away he would/should have known if the server's were ready, but in that week all they managed to do was set up a pre-order and early access system....

I'll give you that.  I think he should have known.  The transcript I saw was pretty crappy translation though.  Even so, this isn't bad news if you get in on the 22nd.  If you are lucky, you get to play for free on the 22nd.  I can't say I would be mad if I got in.

This isn't speculation this is common sense. Of which you seem to have none.

How many people are wanting to beta this game as of right now? I am sure a fan can toss me a number here in a sec but last I heard wasn't it in the 300k+ range?

Alright, well DF is suppose to house what 40k at the max on a server? between 10-40k or something like that I don't remember.

Anyway, they want to "stress test" a server of 40k people and are worried that they can't even do that?

What are you gonna do with these other 260k+ people standing outside waiting to get in?

I don't know 40k ratio to 260K seems like a ton to me.

Gets to test 40k (a few) ------------Sitting out in the cold 260k (a ton)

    Get a clue dude.

This entire post could be simplified to:

The reasons for the new release date follow:

    * Incompetent project management

    * Lack of funds

Darkfall sounds cool and fun, assuming they can deliver what they've promised.  It'd be great to see an indie developer succeed, too.  They should not have these problems so close to launch.  The fact that they do is attributable to the points listed above.

Does any think they will seriously make their February date? (name one thing this company has said that turned out to be true? )

  • PolarizationPolarization Member Posts: 1,410

This is not the real Tasos, this is blasphemy!, this is obviously an imposter.

Tasos announced a January 22nd 2009 Launch Date for Darkfall Online.

Tasos said there will never be pre orders for Darkfall.

Tasos said everyone will get a chance to play the game before buying it, not just "thousands" in "trials" for a "staged release" with "priority" given to pre orderers.

Tasos said there would only be a public beta testing period of several weeks.

Tasos said there was no way they would miss a release date.

Tasos said he was not going to just set a date as a goal, and either postpone or be forced to release something unfinished.

Tasos said he was resolved to stick to release dates because he knows how people tend to plan around this as far as organization.

Tasos said Darkfall is feature complete and ready to for release, last year.

Tasos said Public playtesting would not be for sorting out any serious bugs.

Tasos said Darkfall had been fully tested by professional testers and AI bots.

Tasos said they would not make compromises due to commercial pressures.

Tasos said Darkfall had already been stress tested by professional testers and AI bots.

Tasos said that overall they've been getting very good feedback about the game from are beta testers and that is was very stable.

Tasos said Darkfall could launch today last year.

Tasos said last year that Darkfall is more ready for launch than most, if not all of the MMORPG titles at the same stage that he's personally sampled.

Not a snowball chance in hell.

Like I said, we will all be back here on a new thread in Feb. making more dumb ass excuses of why they can't launch a game like they said they would.

Games get delayed all the time..  deal with it...

Changing there stance on pre-order is not a good thing, it makes the whole thing very suspicious.

I've played a lot of MMORPG's and beta's and I would never pre-order before I've gotten a chance to at least see the game in beta first.

    DON'T PRE-ORDER!!!     it just doesn't sound right.

They can't let all 200,000 people into the game for the Free Beta Test..   I thought there servers were able to support 10,000 players per world,  wouldn't that only be 20 Servers?    Even if they didn't max out each world were only looking at a few more servers.

And how could they not anticipate a HUGE demand of players wanting to get in and play...  if this was 5 years ago I could see there statement being true..

Let's wait until 22nd.  If no trial/open beta starts then we might have a reason to be upset.

Like you trolls who have been burned by companies lying and producing shitty games like DnL the same as I have.  I have experienced many games that have launched and sorely needed more developement time.  I'm sure you all have as well.  I don't want another Roma Victor or another SWG.  I'm sure you guys can understand this.  That's why a delay is never bad news.  Disappointing yes, bad no.

There will be ample information to base the choice to pre-order or not on.

    Well, let's see.

We have confirmation in another thread that Tasos still only has friends and family in the closed beta ( contrary to what he has already told everyone for months ).

We now have confirmation that a game which was "ready for release, we just need a publisher" is once again delayed because it is not ready.

We now have confirmation that the claim of "no pre-orders ever because we want everyone to see darkfall is not a scam"  has now been reversed at the last minute.

Makes you wonder now, were the online shops that have been advertising pre-orders for Darkfall the last couple months ( the ones that Tasos said were not authorized to be taking them ) perhaps authorized after all, and were just waiting for Tasos to go public?

200k beta apps and they are overwhelmed?? AoC and Warhammer both had well over a million applicants.......And if 200k is a number that might make them rethink their distribution what were they counting on in the first place?? Did they not pay any attention to AoC/WAR??.....This news is no surprise and it does sound liek it is more beneficialt to the players in the long run......99 percent of us knew this game was not going to be ready by Jan 22 regardless of what Tasos said in the past........

No, 200,000ish people would be 6 or so servers probably.

You will have plenty of information before pre-order is here to make your choice whether to take it or not. There will have bee a thousand reviews, like I said before.

Do your reading before getting all dramatic on the interwebz.

I take a delayed game over a rushed-and-bad game any day of the year.

Currently playing browser games. Waiting for Albion Online, Citadel of Sorcery and Camelot Unchained.
Played: almost all MMO pre 2007

It is just amazing listening to people here making excuses.

1 Tasos said he would never do a pre-order system

    2. Tasos said he would never announce a release date until they are sure they could meet it.

Not to mention that this game was 'feature complete' five years ago and still hasn't had a single 'independant' person play it.

How long are you guys going to let this scam string you along.

I really feel sorry for the first person that comes on these forums and complains because they paid money for the pre-order and got riped off.

Every reasonable person knew there wasn't going to be a release on Jan 22nd.  And I think every reasonable person knows there is going to be no real free-trial.  It will be so limited, that nobody will actually get into it.

The full scam has now been set up..  the only way you get to 'try' the game is to pre-order.

I actually don't care if the game launches or not..

So if its only a hand full of servers, why not let the 200,000 beta apps in?

I've done quite a lot of reading on the game and if it it's as good as what I've read and they can deliver the product,  I'll try it out.

But I still will not pre-order a game unless I've seen it in beta..   but that's just me...
