Humm reasonable, logical, well thought out, not full of Fanbois hype and blind defense, nore any real sign of troll hate. I salute you sir! Of course you know if eveyone posted like you this would be a very dull forum no one would visit.

dude what are u talking about...they have announced a open beta more than a few times since the first announced release date back in 03. so no...the rabid fans who think they know shit got owned and owned hard might i add. because all that will happen is another delay for more excuses. Aye the trolls have been lacking something to cry about lately, to bad the free trial may mortaly wound them...

See what I mean? Gotta have at least one fan still totally sure that Darkfall is still the greatest and that the fans have never been wrong (ever), that Tasos speaks the gospel and that every set back is infact further proof that everything is going totally on track and as planned. Makes for fun reading though!

      Strongaxe you winz the internet~!

All kidding aside what would they do here without the word troll? (Do notice i managed the above post without resorting to the term fanbois  )

Humm so I imagines darkfall 2008 on the 17 min trailer, and you say Tasos himself never said it would be released in 2008? What your really saying is there was never a SPECIFIC date before the 22nd there where on the other hand many vague promies and the 2008 release was indeed a release date with a defined time frame. On the other hand I might be wrong please explain to me how Darkfall can now be released in 2008 and I will apologise

Heheh that's another of my favorites.

"He said 2008.. He never gave a definite release date! Pwned!!!"

People conveniently forget that 2008 ended at 12:00 midnight on Dec 31, 2008. It's now 2009. Thus, the game was not, in fact, released in 2008. No matter how you slice it, they missed the window.

Just like they suddenly forget that he said the game has been ready for release for months; more ready than any other MMO at this stage in his experience. Well, looking at the reasons for the delay... apparently it wasn't as ready as he thought.

Just like they forget that he did, in fact, say that the 22nd would be the official release date for retail - not beta, as some are now trying to spin it since the delay announcement.

I've seen a few comments along the line of "Well, it's going into beta, so it's technically going to be released"... Nnnnnno... Sorry. That's not the kind of release he was talking about. He was talking final, retail release on the 22nd. Try again.

Along with several other very definitive and not at all ambiguous statements that were made that have turned out not to be true.

As fiercely as they were throwing around Tasos' comments to "prove" it would be released when and how he stated... it's now as though all those statements were never made. It's like that entire section of their brain was removed the moment the delay was announced.

People want to know "why it's such a big deal that it won't be released on the 22nd"?

Well, it isn't. The game wasn't ready (as many had suggested when looking at the lack of info, etc), and that's fine. Many games are delayed.

I think it's more about how big of a deal certain fans made of insisting that it would, telling everyone and everyone who put forth reasons why it didn't seem likely that they didn't know what they were talking about, calling them trolls and haters....

Insisting that, even against a mountain of other MMOs that have come before, that somehow Tasos and co. were going to buck the system and do it "their way", and be successful.

Right up 'til they learned it wouldn't be out on the 22nd, of course. Then they all started with the "well, it's good that they delayed it, becuase it obviously wasn't ready and people should be happy" stuff.

I mean the blatant dishonesty is so thick from some of them you could cut it with a knife.

I would agree with you if there weren't so many parties involved in the process: GNi server company, audiovisual publishing company, MMORPG Italia, Athens gaming convention, and the development team itself. If this was vapor ware or a scam then there would be much less people involved in it. Face it, the game exist, but due to the companies size they have had more set backs than most other companies. Doesn't mean everything is fine and dandy, but hey at least things are moving more forward than they have in the past.

They should just release it. The history of MMOs tells us no matter how much a game is delayed, it will still suck come launch anyways. The sooner it launches the sooner it will get big fixes at this point. The one month extra isn't going to save or kill the game regardless. We will still find bugs, crash the server, and some people will get billed multiple times or they will crash so much it is unplayable. It happens for all MMOs no matter the size of the team, ammount of time spent in development, or even how much is spent in making the game, this stuff always pops up. People just want to play now.

would u rather them release on time and fail like the mmo u play?

    LMAO.

Oh you mean FFXI, the MMO that has been running for about 7 years now, runs on 3 platforms, has 4 retail expansions, regular content updates and 500k players, consistently, year after year?

    "Failure" indeed.

I think Tasos would be doing back-flips to have those kinds of numbers after 1 year, nevermind 7.

You really should get a clue of what you're saying before replying with comments like that.

Nice try, though. I'm sure you thought you really zinged me with that one.

As for your question... Again, nice attempt at misdirecting the real focus of what I was saying.

A perfect example of exactly the behavior I'm talking about.

You know it doesn't really matter what Tasos says, he is proven a completely unreliable source of information. What shocks me is how the journalists here still treat him with kid gloves at the expense of the players that come here looking for unbiased evaluation of the situation. There is a time for diplomacy, a time for the benefit of the doubt. This isn't that time.

Meh, the fans defend Tasos, MMORPG would get a ton of hate mail if they didn't treat him with the respect the fans think he deserves. Hell Tasos could probably tell MMORPG to take a flying leap etc etc etc(well actuall imagine him saying something worse don't want to get banned for typing it.  )    and some of the die hard fans would say he was totally right and justified in doning so, and praise him some more for sticking it to the man!

You know I haven't seen one pro Tasos post in weeks, but i've seen at least 50 claims that fanboys praise him as god and that his word is holy.  Are you guys just making this crap up or what?

I am one of the biggest defenders of DF right now and I even think Tasos is an idiot.

Indeed... in my opinion of course :)

Thing is, I'm not even saying DF will suck. Nor have I ever said that.

I actually hope the game does well becuase I know there are players out there who really want a game like that to play, and succeed. It's somewhat interesting to me, and I'll try it myself at some point.

I would never want to "deny" people a game they want to play. I hope the game does do well enough to keep going, and isn't dragged down by the certain group that are attracted to that type of MMO with the sole intention of ruining it for as many others as they can, driving players from the game in the process.

What I've always posted about is the behavior of certain members of the DF community whose behavior defies any kind of objectivity or honesty.

Honestly, I've got this fascination with human behavior - especially how people will just completely act against all reason when it doesn't suit their ends (you should see the field day I have with politicians).

Yet, somehow, I'm asked (by mcpoopy..) if I want the game to fail.

    Unbelievable.

So all those Trolls saying there was no way Darkfall would release on the 22nd Jan - were right!!!

Who would have thunk. So Aventurine are saying that if there are too many pre-orders they will have to stage release.

Reading between the lines - they cant afford additional servers.

No really? Come on. It obvious that they can't afford a lot of servers. They are an indie gaming company. Hell even some of the fanboys were saying that there would probably only accomodate 50k peopel max. And I've aleays said that DF would grow like EvE did, maybe a little more once the game is out.

A beta test is a limited release of a product with a goal of finding bugs before the final release. Software testing is often referred to by the terms "alpha" and "beta."

Generally speaking, the alpha test is an internal test to find bugs, and the beta test is an external test. During the alpha phase, the product is opened up to employees of the company and, sometimes, friends and family. During the beta phase, the product is opened up to a limited number of customers.

Sometimes, beta tests are referred to as "open" or "closed". A closed beta test has a limited number of spots open for testing, while an open beta has either an unlimited number of spots (i.e. anyone who wants to can participate) or a very large number of spots in cases where opening it up to everyone is impractical.

This is the first time DF has ever been delayed

An open beta doesn't actually have to be completely open

I am still wondering how the trolls got "pwned".

Yet another delay means trolls are being "pwned"?

And really because someone is skeptical about this "game" in no way makes them a troll. Blind devotion on the other hand....makes you use a "word" like PWNED...

Game will be released in 2008, open beta will start in early december 2008, release january 22 2008, press beta was like, last week wasn't it?

Ah, but you omitted the key word, "Open".

Open beta implies open to everyone who desires to play, with no restrictions.

You provided the defintintion of a beta in general, and in DF's case we can call it a limited beta.

Hey, even AOC did a lmited beta, most firms do these days, however I think Tasos promised us an open beta, where everyone who wanted to try it before they gave him any  money would get to play.

Obviously he was mistaken on that point.
