Aventurine, You've earned my respect.

I wanted to say Thank you for a few things.

1. Thank you for admitting that you couldn't do things "your way" and have a successful game.

2. Thank you for (hopefully) not pushing out a crappy untested product, and going through the neccassary testing that will find all of the bugs in your features..

3. Thank you for ensuring you'll have enough servers to support whatever population you have an influx of, making sure that I am going to be able to play (with preorders, they can blow that money on buying more servers.  Then just clone them and push them out!)

I don't care that the game isn't being released this month.  I'm sure a lot of the "skeptics/trolls" don't care the game is being released this month.  We don't want another Vanguard or AoC.  We want a fun game that is complete..

So, in closing. I again, wanted to say

Thank you Aventurine.

I think this was a very smart thing to do.  I think Tasos was an idiot over the past couple weeks though.  This as a whole is a very good move by Aventurine and for DF though for sure.

  • Random_mageRandom_mage Member UncommonPosts: 1,093

    That's the point.

Tasos sucked up his pride, and was honest with the state of the game.  That's what I've been waiting for. I don't really care how long Darkfall takes, I just want to play the game they've been throwing at us.

when other companies do it, they get slammed, but when Aventurine does it, its good.

    lol...i am enjoying this immensely.

Not by me.  I have almost requested every MMORPG i've been a part of to delay farther for a smoother launch.  Again though I think all PR people are idiots.  It's not hard to realize you are dealing with a bunch of dramatic school girl men in the game industry so don't give solid dates and set things in stone.

Biggest difference is that it takes a lot of .. guff.. to come out and say "I was wrong" (although that hasn't happened yet, its sort of like a little kid apologizing).  Most game companies tell you their product is ready..

they launch, it tanks.. and you don't get your  money back

Now.. we "sort of" know what's going to happen.  Oh.. and I never disrespected any of the other companies. I mean, its one thing to out right lie (Our game is ready, but distrubution isn't -- Tasos, DEC 5th, 08) and finally say.. we aren't ready yet.  My bad.  We'll get it out next month.

The ONLY reason the game was delayed is that they didn't have any way set up to bill people on the 22nd.   With this new 'system'.. they now can take pre-orders without ever having a playable game.

    mmhmm.....whatever floats your boat.

What if Aventurine says next that they were getting rid of say 2 of the 6 capitol cities because they aren't ready and need to be further tested after launch? You ok with that?

    Think carefully about this one.

Thank you aventurine for taking the game slow and easy and making sure it's right.

Even if it has been in development since 2001.

Thank you aventurine for letting Tasos lie over and over and over ....or maybe "imbelish" some things

Thank you for proving us "vaporware trolls" right.

Thank you for that lovely white border (it is pretty)

Thank you for launching the most international psychological web-labatoried experiment on fanatism to date!

Thanks for the cherry kool-aid! (its not too tangy and not too sweet. It's just right!!) Although...it does have a weird cynaid-like after taste to it!

I completely disagree. Tasos did not do anything that was out of character. His reponse is just as vague as when he first started his jornals.

They pushed the game back in december to jan 22. Pretty standard response today as last time.

The "trial" is a limited beta of "thousands" and no mention if the NDA would still be in effect.

Pre-orders start some time in febuary... with the release at the end of the month. Nothing indicates they will keep these dates any more then the jan 22 one.

So in fact what has Tasos said...

    1) Release will be delayed again.

    2) Beta will increase in size at some point.

    3) Regardless of previous statements pre-orders will not be in and take priority at release. (nice hook to get as many pre-prders as possible).

Those three items are the only things we know today. Everything else is fluff from Tasos same as it always is. Until Jan 22 roles around who knows if they will even hold a larger beta.

I have to say that some of the fans are just downright sad.

The PR of Adventurine have clearly lied to you about the state of the game. Saying it's "Ready for release, it could launch today". when your game is ready for release, you don't have to delay it over and over again.

This is right out of Adventurine's PR machine:

"Starting on January 22nd there will be a Darkfall trial with the distribution of the release candidate client allowing thousands of players to sample the game for free, help us stress test our servers and test the final features of the game."

Adventurine likes to call it a free trial. In the real world, we call this a Beta test. A beta test means you game is not ready for release.

Stop thanking the developers for stuff like this and get some damn self respect as a potential customer

I would be if it is in by summer when I get a new computer that can play DF.

What a lot of nonsense. I wondered how long before AoC got a mention. No matter how many delays DF has, IF it ever does release, it will stilll make AoC look completely polished product. You really think they have a great game there just needing a bit of tweaking? Hello Mr Gullible!

And I'd guess that you might have a chance to say thank you again in another month when the release gets put back again. At least now the fanboys can't say DF hasn't missed a deadline yet. We've had years of loose promises now comes the time of failed release dates. I'm sure each one will be welcomed by the fanboys as a 'good sign'. Unless they finally wake up out of their delusional state.

and what would they tell you?  That despite all the mechanical bugs, the actual content on the game as it exists now is beyond minute?  That the bulk of the game involved wastelands and wastelands of empty space where you'll hopefully be satified playing a poor man's deathmatch because they only put together enough npc content to fit inside one WoW city?  No, I wouldn't hear that....

Take the time to do a little check of my post history. I've been a huge critic of the way Aventurine has done things.  Seriously.. take the time to look.

Aventurine decided that their way wasn't the right way.  They've "assimliated" into "norms".  that is.. Push back the release date from a set instone date.  Ask for "pre-orders" to get a head count as well as capital for servers.

    That's fine by me.

Thank you Tasos for being so honest to us.

Thank you Tasos for not releasing an unfinished game.

Thank you Tasos for showing us the true value of patience.

Thank you Tasos for all this years of blind faith that replenishes our hearts.

Thank you Tasos for the years that will come, we will forever worship you, and wait.

    Thank you Tasos!

    Yes! Praise you Famous Albatross!

Thank you for being humble in all your iniquities.

Thank you for showing us that you are the way, the truth, and the flight!

Thank you for guiding all those who were astray, both grey bordered and trollkin.

Thank you for ensuring that the future generations of your children shall be graced by the wonder and splendor, that is your Word--- Darkfall.

Thank you for showing us, that despite all attempts of philosophy and education, we are still but lambs led by cunning wolves... or a walrus guiding baby oysters to dinner.

And thank you, most holy Tasos... that in the end, you shall watch over us. Let know from this day forward, let no player make war upon any other player. Let no critic conspire against this new beginning. And let no independent developer consort with foreign governments. And to all the enemies of Aventurine, seek not to bar our way. For WE shall win through… No matter the cost.

Or ... they could have released it now, and just given us the first month or two free (subscription wise). Hell, the more that test it now, the better it will be in the long run.

I never play a MMO that just got released. I even waited a month for SWG.

but again he lied didn't he? just means they will lie again.

he said Aventurine would never set a date they couldn't keep....and by all YOUR previous posts you said BETA PLAYERS whom you talked/read/email/whatever said the game was 100% ready to go.
