    Re-read your first statement:

Thats not going to happen, they're ready. They just need to test some features they havent gotten too...

So they're not ready, despite them being more ready then any other game out there (and a few months ago, to boot!)

You're that same guy back in October that said "Yea don't worry about the OB release date until the first few weeks in November, then it's ok". Terrible fanboy.

I think it is a smart move, and with the open beta on jan 22 insteda of the game, we can not only see if it is as good as we hoped, but get rid of the crapload of bugs that will be at any mmo launch

Blasphemy! Our Lord Tasos needs our funds to secure that their independent development house isn't consumed by the debts incurred by loans, loans which are required to pay for their meals and their equipment. What? Do you think manna grows on trees? Pfeh!

This has gotten beyond stupid. Darkfall isn't coming out, and I'm ashamed to see so many people who actually believe it's a real game. Seriously, it's made me shake my head in disgust at my own species.

Every time a date is announced, nothing happens. But up until that point, we see an endless flood of threads and posts all claiming that THIS date will be the final one, even to the point of predicting massive failure if this last, final date isn't adhered to.

Then nothing happens. The date passes, and still no Darkfall. Better yet, we get vague information about a free trial or some such thing? I don't buy it, and niether should anyone else.

What's worse? All the people who were so sure the game was coming out immediately fall back from that position and spin reality around on its head. Suddenly despite being dead wrong and caught with their pants down, they try to become forum martyrs. Suddenly delays are a good thing after being disastrous just a few hours previous. Suddenly the people who were so very wrong are trying to repaint themselves as having been right all along.

Darkfall isn't the first game, or even the first MMO to never actually release after spending years in development. Why people can't grasp this concept is beyond me, though I suspect at this point, Darkfall has ceased to be a game for some people, and become their last best hope at something "better" in their own lives. Sad really.

These forums are for that reason, endlessly entertaining but endlessly tragic.

Until I see a REAL pre-order from a legitimate gaming website, the game doesn't exist. And that's the same condition everyone should demand from ANY game, in development or not.

The bottom line to all this is that Darkfall will be played by a LOT of peope on January 22nd.

We will know right then and there if it is any good or not.  I have a hunch that they wouldn't allow open beta if the game isn't mostly ready.

I have been very much a skeptic this entire time but today was a good day for Darkfall and it's fans.  We will know soon enough.

So will anyone be surprised when Aventurine burns down and the game is lost in the fire?  I think that will happen some time around Feb. 12.

If its not ready for release, they deserve props for delaying it. However one month doesn't seem quite long enough.

The call for pre-orders (and I'll bet they won't be the 5.00 ones that Gamestop lets you buy) is contemptable given their previous position.

Limiting the beta to a chose few (or many) also kinda sucks in light of the promises made that we would get to try it before they ever asked for any money.

My opinion, they don't have the captial to promote and launch the game, hence the interview with potential investors last week, and now the call for pre-orders.

    Okay. Sounds good.

Though one would think at this stage, we would actually have credible evidence right now...

You're absolutely right.  Its my belief that for the past 8 years, Aventurine and its 30 some developers and microscopic budget have been purposely lying to the world.  The even went to great lengths to create fake real gameplay videos, hundreds of screenshots, and fake reports by fake CB testers.  A fake website and fake promises.  All part of their plan to make no profits and waste 8 years of their lives lying to everyone just for kicks.  That's what most businesses do.

DNL needed another few years.. DF needs another few months... big difference. Truth be told DF's current state is very similiar to current MMO's state when they released. It's definetaly playable and enjoyable

And you can confirm this how?

Playable and enjoyable? You've played it? Can you give us anything that even borders on proof of this claim?

I don't care that the game isn't being released this month.  I'm sure a lot of the "skeptics/trolls" don't care the game is being released this month.  We don't want another Vanguard or AoC.  We want a fun game that is complete..

    Thank you Aventurine.

What's really sad is that you don't see a third path here that most rational people see. Some games spend years in development, supposedly have beta tests, screenshots, game play videos, etc, but they never actually get released. Why? Sometimes a publishing deal goes sour. Sometimes the game just can't quite come together. Distribution problems. Financial problems of all kinds. You name it. There are plenty of reasons why this could have been an honest attempt (or could still be an honest attempt), but it just can't quite come together for release.

Everything you've listed above, I've seen before. Both in the single player and MMO world.

Well from my understanding Tasos has said time and time again that this game is READY. Maybe if he was straight foward with his fanbase from day 1 we wouldnt be having this conversation now. His style is starting to sound like AoC with the way Funcom handeled their game.

My advise dont get to excited because if you go in to the game thinking its going to be a disaster then you have a possibility of being impressed. On the other hand if you think its gods gift to the gaming community then your setting yourself up for a major let down.

What a lot of nonsense. I wondered how long before AoC got a mention. No matter how many delays DF has, IF it ever does release, it will stilll make AoC look completely polished product. You really think they have a great game there just needing a bit of tweaking? Hello Mr Gullible!

And I'd guess that you might have a chance to say thank you again in another month when the release gets put back again. At least now the fanboys can't say DF hasn't missed a deadline yet. We've had years of loose promises now comes the time of failed release dates. I'm sure each one will be welcomed by the fanboys as a 'good sign'. Unless they finally wake up out of their delusional state.

Take the time to do a little check of my post history. I've been a huge critic of the way Aventurine has done things.  Seriously.. take the time to look.

Aventurine decided that their way wasn't the right way.  They've "assimliated" into "norms".  that is.. Push back the release date from a set instone date.  Ask for "pre-orders" to get a head count as well as capital for servers.

    That's fine by me.

I don't think they "decided" anything.

I think reality smacked 'em cold in the face and they realized they had to change the way they were doing things.

Other than that, yeah... glad they woke up, or snapped out of it. Which ever is the case.

Your own logic implodes on itself quite easily.

No no, I was agreeing with you.  There are plenty of indie companies out there with MMOs in production for 8 years that never released and turned out to be vaporware.  And it probably will go that third way.  Because we can't take our word on anything Tasos or Brannoc says cause their not like the other CMs and developers from Blizzard or SOE who we can always trust.

I'm glad to see you know all about indie companies and their small budgets.  You know that they don't need to make huge profits to support the costs, because they don't have a team of 300 developers.  They don't need to advertise, because they aren't looking for the idiots that advertisements are geared toward.  Well, they probably aren't idiots.  When I go game hunting for MMOs I always make a list of the coolest advertisements I saw for games and then decide what to play from looking at those half naked fantasy characters.

Not only that but don't have to force ETAs on releases, because there is no monster producer group in the background micromanaging everything for the good of the impatient customer.  That's gotta suck, I mean, I demand information now!  Who cares if they spend that extra time working on the game privately, I want to know everything now anyway.

They could definitely have financial problems, I mean they spent loads of money for cutting edge graphics, advertisements, a huge team, and a short development time.  I would certainly imagine big debts if that was the case.

In the announcement today, Tasos talked about that very issue regarding publishing.  That is why the game was held back.  Because the other groups were not prepared for release and underestimated the interest others would have in the game.  But, then again, logic tells us that's another lie and coverup.  Darkfall is vaporware and never coming out.  Trust me.
