Why so much hate for Darkfall?

rageagainstrageagainst Member Posts: 618

I'm beginning to hate forumfall, so many idiots are there that are like "ty aventurine, you made the right move, we could not ask for a better company developing this game," when aventurine actually screwed them hard, harder than they've ever been screwed (2 of the most important promises the devs made (no delays and no preorders,) were broken). They would have said the same exact thing even if aventurine launched 5 months ago and released an incomplete and untested game and bombed, TheirMindBelongToAventurine

But you guys are like the polar opposites, i mean this is straight from the mmorpg.com editor (from the first page on the topic about the DF delay):

I wouldn't call it defense. I would call it benefit of the doubt.

Like I said in the article, I do think that there is some cause for concern and certainly there are questions to be asked... but when other companies announce delays... even weird ones... we don't often run off screaming vaporware, either.

I'm just saying, perspective is key."

Why do you guys hate darkfall so much, did Tasos beat your mothers and kill your dogs? I mean its just a delay. Its expected for any game to have rabid fanbois, but rabid haters should be more scarce, I've never seen a game before with so many people that are so passionately "skeptic"

First, it's not hate, it's suspicion. And I  think it's due to the high profile failure of several games recently, at least one of which was a scam. Darkfall seems to be taking the same route the scam took: pie-in-the-sky promises, lack of transparency, pre-orders without proof of product, etc.

Ewww yeah hate is a strong word.  I love Tasos as a fellow human being.  But hate is the opposite of love, and it's very hard to love a game, and as well, hard to hate a game.  Love is a two way street, a game cannot and does not have the capacity to love back.  Therefore, hate, being the opposite of love is impossible with an inanimate object that is computer code.  I mean if Darkfall was a human, I wouldn't hate her, I'd love her, in fact she may be beautiful.  Hate and love are emotions.  You really cannot subject emotions onto a non-living entity.  I think the proper word to use would be dissapointment.  Now ask nicely, why are we dissapointed with Darkfall.

why are you dissapointed in Darkfall? I'm pissed on the preorder thing, the delay is fine all games delay and leakers said the game wouldn't have been close to fully tested if they didn't delay.

And when I say haters i mean "cynics who call themselves skeptics, who rabidly spam negatives on DF"

Maybe you're mistaking hate with caution.

It's more than natural to doubt you, when you claim you're extremely good at something, people will simply not trust until proven wrong. Same goes for making games.

If making outstanding MMORPGs were as easy as saying it, we would have less let downs in the past, I guess.

Nothing personal against Tasos despite of his babble, any company affirming they have an extremely good game will be dealt with suspicion from everyone, pretty much.

I don't know why people can't understand the hate/suspicion etc. A lot of people have been following this game for nearly a whole decade. Naturally we aren't too optimistic.

For every action, (rabid DF Fanbois/Developers touting the impossible to believe features) there is an equal and opposite reaction. (cynics, skeptics and trolls who were incredulous from the start at the promises/claims being made)

The volume is amplified by the fact that history (DnL, Mourning, and even games like AOC) has proven that developers promises are rarely to believed.

For some reason fanbois always think the there's no lesson to be learned from history and standard industry practices, and somehow Aventurine is going to defy all logic, tradition and practical business sense and pull off some sort of gaming miracle.

No matter how often critics point out the reality of the situation, fans look away "hoping" that their dream will come true.  (as if their faith or belief will somehow increase the chance of it happening) They attack all critics as Trolls, who are determined to see the game fail.

Nothing could be further from the truth.  What the skeptics want is a developer to promise and deliver a fun, feature complete game that's within the realm of probablily  We're tired of outlandish promises that can never be met.

We don't believe in miracles, we want games built with logic, intelligence and are fun to play.  When people tout something unrealistic like Aventurine always has (and over many years), expect the attacks to come fast and furious.

    Its nothing personal btw.

Don't feel stalked its pure coincidence i quote you again today ..

    Aventurine aside..

Why a miracle is needed to build a sandbox game with UO similar PvP ruleset and Naval Warfare and terretory claims ?

I claim such a game bases more on logic and intelligence and is more fun to play then other types of MMO (there isn't any - more on this later)..

Me happen to know one game through his history it was first a sandbox MMO and changed to the other type ..all the attributes you mention being logical, intelligent and fun to play fit the former incarnation of said game...in fact  since the game changed to classes and levels  the game  appears now as irrational , unintelligent  and not fun to play...

Anventurine goes not for something illogical or less fun to play ..it just went to build an MMO ..if you try to build a MMO you should go for sandbox ..others multiplayers designs are NOT a  MMO or just a MO if you like it better (in some cases even SO - Singleplayer Online games)..

That could explain the amount of hate because followers of MO's ..meanwhile mainstream ..don't want DF as MMO game to succeed ..they try to "vaporize" it  -please notice the wordplay here ...

With the company building it now making mistakes and helping at it unfortunately as it appears now..

What you perceive as hate is actually frustration. Frustration at a company purposely being vague to incite these kinds of conflicts within their own community because it generates hype. Frustration at being told fantastical stories with no real substance. Frustration at WANTING a game like DF and seeing trends indicating a twisted broken version of the vision given to the community. Frustration at blind faith idiots who think this game (or any game really) is the second coming.

What you see as hate... really is nothing more then years of frustration brought on by none other then Tasos himself. What people need to do is understand that many of us LOVE the idea of DF... but Aventurine is screwing it up. I would say that some of the fiercest critics are actually the games greatest fans. We are the fans of a concept... while most of the fanbois are fans of a label. Until people realize that Aventurine can and likely will screw the pooch on this... there will be conflict like you are see now.

Frustration, dissapointment , anger, hate....... what ever the emotion, its just plain silly.

The real question should be.....  What does darkfall owe to you?

NOTHING...darkfall owes you NOTHING. I mean take it easy on these poor guys. They are an indy group of devs trying to make a great game. If anything we owe THEM. THey are the ones continuing to be part of developing the next generation games that we love.  Or at least trying to do so. Without people like them we will be doomed to play the same themepark crap weve been playing for years now for all eternity.

So before you take all of your nerd rage out on Aventurine and any other company thats simply trying to make a great game, just remember you have no reason to because Aventurine has nothing at all to owe to you. Maybe you were beaten as a child or you were born with a cleft lip or something...dont take it out on game devs period. it just gets old.

This is transparent proof, and you will be able to choose to buy based on the content offered. Whats so confusing to you people?

Stop trying to emotively link DF with the failure of other games when it has nothing to do with any of them on any level. It's just poor debate.

I think that "no delays" and "no pre-orders" are pretty crappy things to have been excited about. I guess I never really put much stock in them because I never believed the little narrative about an unproved and new indie company having a better or more realistic design process than tried-and-true industry veterans. But I think that's just one of the differences between camp A and camp B.

DarthRaiden, I'm pretty sure that when viewed under a microscope, you would baffle scientists with a musculature that more closely resembles a kool-aid dispensary than a human being. Incredible.

You contend that design decisions in non-sandbox MMOs are not "rational", "intelligent", "logical", or "fun" but the only basis for this belief is that you don't like non-sandbox MMOs. Incredible. You then go on to completely redefine the world Massively Multiplayer Online to (somehow) only include your sandbox niche. That's as preposterous as saying that you can't call game X a sports game unless it is a soccer title. Or you can't truly call game Y a racing game unless it conforms to the rules and regulations of the Indy 500 race. Ridiculous. Of course, it all makes sense when coming from the victimfall mentality that you seem to have taken up for yourself. Yes, we want your game to fail. This isn't at all a reaction to the "any logical, rational, or intelligent mind would arrive at the objective conclusion that Darkfall is the game to play, everyone else is jealous at best or dumb craven cowards at worst" mindset that is put on display.

Because most people wont be able to get into the beta. So they won't get to play it before buying it.

By the same token, before you went down the path of silliness, I owe Aventurine nothing. I don't owe them the benefit of the doubt, I don't owe them a suspension of disbelief, I'm not a gaming journalist so I don't even owe them "innocent until proven guilty". I certainly don't owe them anything less than a critical eye- and not even that should I choose not to.

They're making the product, we're all potential customers of it- it's pretty obvious which side, if any, has something to prove.

Aventurine owes nothing. However they need subscribers to be successful.

Alienating potential customers because of vanity and ego is not good business sense. You want to spin this like Aventurine is some sort of victim here, but they are not. They can choose to do things in a proactive and transparent manner. If they fail to provide what develops a good community, then the blame is squarely on them.

It is absurd to think we the community/consumers owe them anything. What exactly are they doing for us? We will be PAYING for the game when it is released... so what community service are they really doing that should garner our adoration? It is that kind of blind faith that is destroying the MMO genre in general. These companies are here to make money... any one of them that says differently is a liar. How naive does a person have to be to think these companies are doing anything out of the goodness of their heart... seriously we are not in a fantasy world... we just like to play in virtual ones.

The failed logic in your post is almost laughable if it was not for the fact that there is a core group out there that believe it to be true like yourself.

    Same tired spin....

Thousands out of HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS will get to play...

There was no mention that NDA would be dropped.

There is no compelling evidence that Aventurine will start this free trial on time.

Poor debate is intellectual dishonesty. You KNOW the points above are true yet you imply they are not in your post. You make assumptions with no basis on fact. Until the free trial begins there is nothing to indicate we will have any more information then what is currently known. If pre-orders start before more information on this game is release it will go back on everything Tasos implied. He set the bar, so he is the only one to blame if Aventurine falls short.

Just one reason - ppls are scared of such game. They realize that they cannot manage such gameplay. There are many downside in it agains "polised" games they like. Such ppls cannot survive a wild jungle and prefer "Disney Land" than something wild and realisitc like Darkfall.

I do not like Darkfall itslef i like the idea behind it. I do not care if it will be reasled or not. The idea give me a life! I know that there will be such game soon or later and it will be the Messiah for pps that are awaiting it for so long. I dont know if it will be Darkfall, Mortal Online or anything else. This give me a power to continue to play stupid MMOs full with noobs, stupid gameplay and players. I just await my fantasy virtual reality.

I do not see hate for the game. If it comes out it has, on paper, the potential to revolutionalize the MMO market, which is a fantastic thing to wait and look for.

Some ppl are so emtional about it that they do not want to realize that after so many years in the making, DF is still fantastic on paper. Besides screenshots and a couple of videos (not playable demos or walk-thrus) we still don't know much about what is actually the final product.

So, the hate is not driven towards the game, it's towards the emotional bunch that calls every skeptic around a troll.

Point is we will only know when it is released, but delays and lack of marketing and retailling information add to the pile of doubts even more.
