Funny how the "official" screenshots look NOTHING like the crappy, no anti-aliasing, low-texture ones we see in every beta leak and gameplay video. You would think a game AV claims to be perfect wouldn't need photoshopped screenshots.
Actually i would say in-game looks much better than the official screenshots...
regardless, comparing screesnhots to 800x600 fraps footage uploaded and compressed by youtube = IT noob.
you want to qq about darkfall, we get it. but you could at least *try* to use a decent argument.
Actually I think that many SS from Gianna are horrible, so I don't think they're photoshopped at all.
Maybe they're cherrypicked.
Then again, the static graphics of this game is not that bad at all and you can realize that by looking at leaked screenshots.
But the animations are pathetic and the clipping plane is ridicolous. The reason Gianna did never put up any video is that you can easily hide those flaws in a SS, while you can't in a video.
Whatever, I dunno if someone else did realize that this preview confirmed that personal player housing has been taken out.
Yup.
Houses are just another building on the strict "where and when we tell you" schedule. City building is looking to be just some sort of petty building game with zero creativity.
I'm glad to see that Gianne spoke out about how pathetic the "surprise" of not knowing if the city site will support the buildings you want UNTIL you've already started building one though. This article brought back some of the objectivity that seemed to be missing in that last one.
I'm wondering if there are some city sites next to water that CAN'T have a harbor? Or, city sites next to a mountain that CAN'T have mines? She said it appeared to be random... but then seemed to say to use common sense when picking a site.
Perhaps a dev or someone might clarify that before release... I'll not hold my breath though.
I'm actually sad to see this is her last one. I didn't always agree with her, but it was at least information about the state of the game. More that we usually got from official sources.
This one being her last, tells me the game is most likely launching on the 25th of Feb. then... for better or worse.

the world/enviroment graphics are outstanding actually. the characters are so-so and the armours/weapons are excellent. the animations are the weakest point to be sure, but it is worth mentioning that there is a quality slider in-game for animation quality and when set to high, the animations are a lot more fluid. i can only presume the low-high animation setting is there for performance optimisation.
Well now we got our citybuilding confirmed, so we got the core of Darkfall intact.
Just got to love the trolls.
-Yes we know Aventurine and Tasos are after our money
-Yes we know Gianna is a friend of the DF developers
-Yes we know the graphics and animations is bad
-Yes we know we might be dissapointed again
-Yes we know DF isn`t 100% ready for launch
-Yes we know the combat isn`t as good as we wanted
-Yes we know the sound in DF is bad
-Yes we know we will be zerged and cleanlooted
Darkfall is made by pvpers for pvpers, why do you even care? Are you afraid of our money? heck, I use more money on sigaretts every day than I have to pay for DF every month. And those might kill me RL. Did AoC or WAR scam me when they launched a crappy game?
Some of us might get a mmorpg we have waited for in years, so why not feel happy for us? Someday you might get a game you like

AoC is outstanding. This game's graphics is just "pretty good".
Chars have no charisma and they all look the same.
Many textures are very very bad.
And animations are just awful, no SliderOfDeath is gonna save you.
And that clipping range ... I really hope they get it fixed before release ...
Still, I couldn't care less about graphics. What actually worries me is gameplay.
And many "unofficial" news are reporting that basic gameplay is still broken in many respects.
Furthermore, I'm really angry that player housing and dynamic city building went out of the window and no one knew that until today.
And it looks like there's no way to set permissions/prices on clan structures, which is TOTALLY IDIOTIC.

The flamers are more interested in blindly attacking anything they can.
When I don't like (or am not interested in) a video game, I sure as fuck don't go on their forums and announce over and over again that I don't like the game. I just forget it and move on.
I don't like any of the MMOs currently out, should I go post in there and let everyone know? How boring and odd that would be. Don't understand that in the least.
To be fair, not all of the detractors are flamers.. there are a few people who seem capable of constructive criticism, but most of em are flamers. And to be really fair, there are a lot of fanboys too.

What surprises me is that people apparently didn't know that you could only build cities at certain locations based on a certain template?
I read that months ago. IIRC there are only so many locations too (97 comes to mind for some reason - not sure my memory is right on that though?).
The graphics don't worry me at all.
The thing I thought of though - that no-one seems to have thought of BTW - is what a city looks like 'damaged' and what happens when a city falls in a seige?
Does it just 'evaporate'? (sink back to the ground)
What if the victor likes the location but does not like the existing design? Can they change it?
Come on people... how many MMO vets are here? You must have thought of these things?
Also, by the review, if most clans are only at the 'bank' stage (they needed a GMs Hax skill to get the city shots) then there have been no city siege test yet. That concerns me because it sounds very much like what happened with AoC.
Yes, Tier 3 cities are turned on... you just can't build them... remember?

And judging by the comment Claus made in that recent update, I am guessing that this will be one of the features worked on at a later date.
And yes, I remember that whole city building thing in AoC beta. We kept asking when we were going to be able to test it and were told by Gaute "This feature is being tested internally and is currently working fine. No need to worry."
I swear both Tasos and Gaute have the same copy of "Spin Spin Spin: Guide to Mismanagement 5th Edition"...

No they can't. That is the part that stinks!
That isn't sandbox in the least.
SWG city building was sandbox.
What DarkFall devs have implemented for city building is some sort of build a city by our design ONLY!
You have no choice what you get to build or where it gets placed, or in what order they get built. How does that even remotely compare to what SWG or even UO offered?
I have no problem whatsoever with limited city building sites. How else are you going to foster competition and inter-clan warfare? And avoiding some of the endless sprawl of a game like SWG won't be a bad thing either.
Set templates for city building on the other hand are not a plus. But this certainly wouldn't be game breaking. Just a minor quibble.

I don't mind this with cities. I think it will keep the world structured nicely with guilds fighting over the cities. I do wish they had freely placed player housing though.

No. It's not game breaking for me either - but it does illustrate how much misinformation there is about this game.
In this case - I don't know if the Developers ever 'promised' you could build wherever you liked?
But some of the Fanbois did. In fact, IIRC someone on this forum had that quote in his sig.

But the game is feature complete, so all of this discussion of how city building will happen is moot. Feature complete... except for the fact that 3 months after saying that, they finally added 'directional combat'.. you can actually swing your weapon Down or sideways.
You really think that if they are still implementing basic combat 3 weeks until launch, that they have anything done with city building?

Well considering guilds in beta have built cities, yes.
Its no problem, just build a city where you want tith the purpose you want. As they said, if you want to harvest for food....dont build in the desert. How diffecult can it be?
That's not what I read (it's late and I can't find the link).
IIRC there are only so many sites available. So,i you want to harvest food - but the only spots left are in the desert... you are out of luck.
Probably not an issue faced in the Beta so far if the numbers are still low?
Hoooray the last "noob" review ! So someone thats NOT Tasos friend,ex partner, partner, mother, uncle, brothers former roomrate... can review the game without any NDA ? I hold my beathe... probably not a good idea with DfF.. but meh...
Personally I found the noob reviews to be quite useless and not exactly an open transparent review.

Just take one thats suites your clan. I bet the ones that have your perfect place dont use it and wants to move anyway. Maybe they want to swop with your place?? Politics, greed, envy, military power, clan members, leadership......all that gametime just for your city : )

IIRC there are only so many sites available. So,i you want to harvest food - but the only spots left are in the desert... you are out of luck.

Spots left in the desert?
Just take one thats suites your clan. I bet the ones that have your perfect place dont use it and wants to move anyway. Maybe they want to swop with your place?? Politics, greed, envy, military power, clan members, leadership......all that gametime just for your city : )
No wonder i only play sandbox MMOs.
Nice more details about city building. Looks really great. Suck Gianna says this might be her last preview.
