SWG ...wow! What a masterful creation. Brilliant game.
THE WORLD IS DESPERATE FOR A SWG-LIKE GAME; NOT A WOW-LIKE GAME (WE GOT MORE OF THOSE THAN WE CAN SHAKE A STICK AT!)
Truly, I wish I had the opportunity to play SWG for the first time pre-problems. I played SWG for the first time a few years ago, and the game is impressive in so many ways and on so many levels. Watching the videos makes me want to return. The problem is that SOE has changed its privacy policy, which prevent me from playing SOE titles. Unfortunate.
Edit: Seriously, when I get back from my vacation, I am thinking about re-dling SWG and playing for a month or so. It is a very, very fun MMORPG. Until a SWG-like game is released, I am basically out of the MMORPG business altogether. I like worlds. Depth. Unique characters. Quests that are fun. Accessibility without linearity.
Did you really have to double post this? Anyway, It would be incredibly sad if SOE was clearling out half of their servers and COULDN'T fill at least one of them. You have free transfers going on right now for half of the servers, and Starstrider is one of the most popular destinations. I would hope it would fill up after that.
Stop being to cinical and go and try it, it is probably a lie but I'm going to check my account anyways..
Starsider is the only heavy server because when they allowed the free server transfers, everyone on the dozen or so low population transferred there. Why did you cut the image off at the bottom where it would show all the very light servers that are ghost towns compared to the single populated one?
Not only did the free transfers kill the already struggling servers, it also killed Starsider which was a good server with a mature population before the transfers. Now it's a huge lag fest with lots of rubberbanding again.

Not worth the bytes on my hard drive to put that filth back on there. I'll only have 1 version of SWG on my computer and it's currently Pre-Cu.

I hope they add in all the new content that has been added since Pre CU because a Pre CU profession system with a game that has content would be great. Only problem is all the Pre CU people hate quests for some reason..... like the main complaint of pre CU was there was no content.
Things like the Collection system, Kash, Legacy quests, Mustafar, Hoth etc etc. Just gives kool new things to do.
Was gunna say didnt some-one post this crap up last week but I see its the same thread. Jesus let it die. THis video does NOTHING to promote the game it looks wank has tons of graphical issues and like..4 players. So it only goes to show that they still cannot produce a working game anad backs up the idea that to achieve 'heavy' pop you only need 10 players these days.
Sorry but Im not a hater of SWG I never played it. But that video is god awful and you should take it down.
And I'm sure we also discussed how pretty much all of those playing atm are ex vets offered a FREE trial and were not paying customers at all. The videos consists of bugs, trickery and deciet. Take nothing from it
Playing polished, lag free, feature complete games is carebear. Whining about a game you hate but still play is hardcore man!
The population is not so great...the character building isn't nearly as good as it was in it's early days. But compared to what most games are offering now...SWG isn't all that bad. Has decent PvP n PvE, housing system, fairly open worlds..n large areas to explore, crafting, spce combat/travel and a decent community. As much as I am not a fan of SOE, SWG does offer more to do than many of the newer MMOs.
Thank you OP for the vids and pics. While kudos are due for your enthusiasm and excitement, I always feel sorry for the folks that think this is a huge population compared to what it used to be, at least on Eclipse. It may be higher then what most are used to, it still doesn't compare to the before times. However, there were a fair number of people once you got into the cantina in your vid.
Now picture that many people in the old days, but not just in the cantina. Picture this amount all around Corellia, Naboo, Dant and many more starports. Picture not one group like in the cantina vid, but many many groups of that size all together in and around the starport, or inside hospitals back when there were docs not just for buffs, but for free healing or healing for tips. Picture large groups hanging around the banks, and of course, the cantinas, with numerous entertainers competing for your business.
The first time I saw Dant MO I was amazed. As a starting point for hunting clubs, even after Pre-CU it was still very very busy. After the CU, hospitals were dead, and then eventually non Mos Eisley cantinas all but faded away.
It felt like a living world back then. Even thunderheart once wrote it was changed from a world to a game...such potential wasted, so much taken away, but nothing ever given in return. Oh maybe some has been given back in some ways in the last several years, but way to long to wait and pay for. And Devs that still blame the old player base for the state of SWG now. Such a shame.
Well, I have been playing SWG off and on for the past few years, and I must say that its population now is as good as it was pre-CU. On Ahazi, most cantinas are usually full and have plenty to offer. My guild's city (Valley of POWER) has plenty of occupied houses and things seem to be going well.
Sure, there were many many people pre-CU but now, it seems to be slowly climbing back up.

To be perfectly honest the game seemed to be doing alright 6-8 months ago when I played for about 3 months on Bloodfin. I ended up quitting because the game itself was fun for awhile but ended up being sort of bland after a couple of months. I found that I was playing the JTL parts mostly after about 2 months and even that got old by then. There was never a shortage of people playing though as others would like you to believe.

The population increase you see is a falacy. It is at the expense of other servers. A few servers have increased but the remainder will NEVER again see players again and will more than likely be shutdown.
And please do not insult people here by insinuating that the population is as good as it was pre-CU. Everyone knows better.
Starsider sits at "very heavy". It crashes at least once per day. You can find a packed cantina in MO at 3 AM. TBH, it is as close to pre-cu as the game will ever get again.
Bria and Bloodfin sit at heavy. Almost everywhere you go, there are other players, although you might find it hard to find a buff at 3am.
The rest of the servers are dead, or close to it. Ahazi claims to be at medium, but is a ghost town polulated only by people who cannot afford to transfer.
How long can the game last with the few servers it has left?? This is the question. I don't see it dying out any time soon, really...
I hopped back onto flurry for a little while here is what I saw.

-But to my suprise
Mos eisley = Tons of players hanging in front of SP, and going through it, also I was pretty suprised when I saw quite the populated cantina, It wasnt what coronet used to have back in the day, but there where lot of people.
-Apparently the rest of the population is at kessel. They hang around the shuttleport area, there are around 40-50 people around the shuttle at any time and even more doing PVP in the city itself or so people say, I couldnt find out myself because you had to be lvl 70 to get in. So basically tatooine is no longer the primary place for PVP to be waged. "AH vs Bestine scrimishes = Dead".
99% of player cities are ghost town taking up space, they are not as wonderful as the where now that you know they just rot there.
I almost thought about resubbing because a few of the very oldschool guilds I knew from when I used to play back in 03-04 are still around, but in the end I just couldnt get used to the change, after all. My once 4-4-4-4 jedi after mastering around 20 profs was now a mere lvl 41 commando, out of like 80 or 90 lvls possible. Ghey
I would have thought you'd try to promote the game with your video. That was terrible. I saw maybe 15 players. 15 players does not an mmo make. But im sure that's jUST because the world is so big right? Lets not touch on graphical bugs that rear their ugly heads all the way through. But im sure thats jUST because of fraps...
Try to capture/edit together some video where the game doesnt look like shit and people might pay attention. Other than that, lets just wait and see how many people dont resub once theyve played FOR FREE. Shall I be the one to remind people that none of those people are actually paying to play?
15 players is HUGE,try going to any PVE WOW server, the noob zones are dead. That is the largest subbed game by miles and in 5 days i saw a total of maybe 5 players 5 days! that averages to one a day,so don't try and use numbers or twist them ,ALL games have areas that are busier than others and during different times than others.Matter of fact i can't remember seeing 15 players in one screenshot at any time in any game outside of new releases or new expansion packs or a raid/alliance.
I would agree that a lot are probably freebies, however i would also garner a bet that some of the two faced complainers were also out their playing.Heck when Eq2 gave out free time, there was a bunch of people in there not even playing the game, they just hung out in chat and made a nuisance of themselves, childish and lame.
People that are Sar Wars fans should just play the game that is offered, accept it for what it is ,that is called maturity[you can't always get your own way],you will not get a better Star Wars game from any of these other run of the mill developers,so quit holding yourself back and enjoy it while it lasts.
I can write a book on every game i love and find a bazillion complaints, but i live with what i do like from these games and try to enjoy it,otherwise i would be playing nothing,if all i did was complain.

Another example of a once great game which needs a refit and relaunch with a lot of marketing bucks. Else it will soon join the ranks of Tabula Rasa.
