you can only look at this question in reto-spect, if the relationship goes well...then No it is not a bad idea, if the relationship goes frakkin awful then the answer would be yes, you wont know until YOU do it and reflect on it, you cant ask someone this as the answer and outcome would be different for everyone
I said no. I met a girl online =P shes now my wife, been with her for more then 12 years now. So, in my case, it was good.
But as in all situations, it depends on the two people involved whether or not it's good or bad. I mean some relationships will not go any further than "online".. (i.e. you never meet in person) to some, that's a good thing. To others, that's viewed as bad.
I don't see any problems with it, as long as you don't play to pick up people in the game... That would be a big sign of being desperate.
But if you meet someone you like in a game, go for it.
It is good to have hobbies together with your girl/guy, but they might not be who you expects them to be, however the same things go for meeting someone at the pub. Of course it is harder to pick up someone of the same sex by misstake in a pub (*humms "the crying game"*).
Can't say I ever picked up anyone online myself, but if I find someone I like, where isn't a big deal. Besides, you can't stop love
Dont mean to disprove anyones opinions here. But me and my wife met online and we're happily married living together. I guess it was luck, or something. But i hear plenty of successful stories along with mine that worked out.
I have a question for those of you who have had a relationship with folk online... at what point did you clarify gender and sexual preference? I assume that most relationships would be friendships, we all have friends online, but I dont always ask male/female and I cant remember ever asking gay/straight. I'm not looking for a relationship (my wife would not approve) so perhaps I dont ask the questions you would, but I assume that most folk wander into a relationship (in an MMO) rather than hunt for one .
If the relationship is not expected to become physical I guess it doesn't matter, but then again I imagine the bulk of people would strongly disagree... I know we all build a picture of who we're talking to in our heads and would not handle that picture being shattered to the nth degree.
Ive met *thinks for a moment* 5 girls in person that I met online. 3 of these, we thought we had some sort of attraction with one another prior to meeting irl. The others were just friends, and we remained friends.
make long stories short, upon meeting the first girl.. it turned out she was 16 when I was 27. Ya...scary? Second girl had a fascination with latex gloves, binding her breasts and..I wont get into the rest of it. All which was literally introduced to me the first time we saw each other. The third girl was a stripper with a coke problem. We dated for a while :P
so ya, you really roll the dice when meeting people online. Theyre rarely who you think they are.
"If you want a picture of the future, imagine a robot foot stomping on a human face -- forever."
It's not "bad", there's just a lot of cons and only a few pros to it.
From what I know - Pros: Because in-game avatars rarely look like the people playing them, the whole sense of "you're ugly" is irrelevant (though, yeah, you should try to get some photos, lol). Still, it gives people a chance to express themselves and their personality and if you like them, it's based on that more than how they look. This isn't always possible in real life. Of course, you have to hope that the person on the other end is being truthful, which leads us to the cons.
Cons: A whole lot of stuff. First of all, the person could be lying to you about everything and "she" could just want your money or something. Happens all the time.
Second, even if you managed to establish a relationship with someone online, you don't know what kinda shit they're doing when they're not on. She could be fucking around with 5 other guys and you'd never know. This can happen in real life too of course but the chances of you finding out are a hell of alot better.
Third, we were created to be social creatures and that means using all 5 senses. On the Internet, you only use one. Absence of touch, smell, hearing, and maybe taste () really diminishes the passion of your relationship.
Meh, my 5 cents. When I was younger I messed around with some girls on RS but they only wanted my GP or Abyssal Whip.
-------------------------------------- A human and an Elf get captured by Skaven. The rat-men are getting ready to shoot the first hostage with Dwarf-made guns when he yells, "Earthquake!" The naturally nervous Skaven run and hide from the imaginary threat. He escapes. The Skaven regroup and bring out the Elf. Being very smart, the Elf has figured out what to do. When the Skaven get ready to shoot, the Elf, in order to scare them, yells, "Fire!"
Most the girls I've meet that had these really hot pictures of themselfs turned out very bad when I saw them over webcam, as in I closed the window as soon as I saw them. XD
So many superficial tossers posting in this thread, what does it matter how her face looks?
What of personality, sence of humour, sence of morality their wants and desires for life and more importantly so long as they got a fit boddy and big tits who gives a shit? You dont look at the mantlepiece whilst poking the fire.

It's all important. You just need to luck out and get a cute gamer chick with a personality that compliments yours.
PS. Oh and it doesn't hurt that 2 wks after giving birth she's only 3lbs from pre prego weight.
Sounds cheesey but after I had a really bad relationship with a girl and she moved out of my house I went into a deep depression played WoW for a while (sad right?). While I was on wow I became friends with a girl and now that girl is my fiance, as in I gave her the ring while we was at St. Augustine beach florida and she said yes I couldnt be happier to have met someone online and get to know them so well. Note: When you first meet them in person, its like starting all over again. It really depends on how you go about dating online, I think one of the reasons me and my fiance have such a good relationship is that sex was the last thing that was on our mind. It's just nice to have company you know.
I agree with Locklain, Not cheesey at all and grats,If it feel right go with it. Just make sure you take your time and get to know her before the big day, and owe let us know when the big day is so we can all post some pics of some hot ass girls and cigars for your MMORPG bachelor party

Hello my old friend.
Is it wrong? I'm always falling for the girl toons I create. How could there be anything wrong with that?!
What do you mean? Every girl I talk to on the internet doesn't look like this in real life? Really?
I had no idea.
It worked out well for Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan.
Is it different if it isn't dial-up?
