Bot are an interesting economic study.  The very fact that there are bots in a game, means there's a demand for gold/items/characters gained the easy way from other consumers.  As long as that demand is there, i can assure you someone will attempt to fill the supply side.  To me, the most effective and immediate solution woudl be to cut the demand, by issuing harsh penalties to those purchasing items from bot vendors for ourside currency.  In theory, these buyers care alot about the game, enough to spend RL money on clothes and items for their pixalated character.  So hit them where it hurts.  Permanent bans on anyone caught purchasing gold, and be vigilant in doing it early and often.  Eventually, people will realize that it's not worth the risk of not only losing their characters, but also the money they wasted on ingame items that would also be lost on said character.  Eventually, as demand lessens, the bots will go away.

You may drive away the casual buyers, but not the ones that are hardcore about it.

My personal example, not along the same lines but close enough to the point.

One of my closest friends played DAoC Mordred server with me.

He was one of the players who purchased and religiously used a program called "radar".

He spent RL money on this program as well as in game gold.

He had his accounts banned 6 times, but rather then slowing down, he just bought a new game, power leveled a new character and continued to play.

He probably spent maybe a grand over 6 years? Considering the length he played and the amount he spent, he didn't really lose all that much money and enjoyed the game to the fullest for him.

If you want a firm and permanent solution you're going to have to do more then ban player accounts.

i hope your friend realised that radar ruined the game for a LOT of players. Just becaue he had fun cheating doesnt mean that everyone he encountered had the same amount of fun.

If i was running an mmo i would definatly ban on credit card number and when jimmy gets his and his parents accounts banned for cheating then it would solve a lot of problems.

as for the amount of money he spent on the game in the thousands that doesnt mean that anyone else didnt spend similar amounts of money without cheating.

Multi bot accounts were normal on darkage i had at least 2 which i used for the benfit of me and my friends. as for writing bots and so called grinding if companies didnt make their games boring or put in achievements that were difficult for non casual gamers there wouldnt be this issue of cheating.

there are bots in every mmo, even f2p games. anyone who thinks aion has or will have bots on the scale of l2 is lol. the game is not condusive to botting, so it's more like the level of botting you see in wow i would imagine.

are there bots in wow? yes. is wow a botfest? lol no.

i'd be surprised if the amount of goldspam in aion is at the level of wow or even games like warhammer and aoc, which aren't exactly known for their rmt. l2 has had rmt since it's inception to the point where there was a time that you could buy irl goods and services in korea with l2 adena. no other ncsoft game has seen anything like this, so the aion=l2 because it's a ncsoft game is flimsy at best.

Notice I am not saying you should go about it in a weak wristed fashion. But rather, you should refrain from the name calling unless it is directed at you personally.

If you wanted an honest discussion you should have titled this thread with the proper care and followed up with an actual explanation of what you wanted to discuss as your first post. Instead you acted like a complete and utter troll baiter. Do not feign being some kind of misunderstood victim or shit stirrer for the common good.

People are smarter then that and will treat you just the way that you present yourself to them.

That said people have given you correct answers about their experience further along the line and I honestly haven't seen a whole lot of people calling you names other then troll. If you don't think you derserve to be called a troll see my opening paragraph above about how to avoid that.

    Cheers.

Um, at any point... any point at all did I even address the issue of gold farmers? You argue like my wife, when losing, you try to change the subject, lol

Now, would you care to address the point of you being a "competitive player" and the merits of botting? ie, since you are avoiding the point at hand, you sound like a botter yourself?

You talked about botters, Im telling you that 90% of people who bot are gold farmers, so yeah, you talked about gold farmers.

Competitive players are the one who compete over things such as fortresses, pvp ranks and endgame content, there are no merits in botting and reaching the top, I never talked about that, but if players who compete over things bot, then the game is fucked, and Aion isn't the case, the most successful players right now are the ones who played legitly because cheating in this game can't take you as far as cheating in the game you mentioned.

You seem to think I take pleasure in this association of L2 and Aion. Nothing could be futher from the truth. I hope that I'm wrong about Aion... but I'm afraid that history and common sense are on my side

I see your wife is having some influence on you

I'm not so concerned by this botting issue yet. If it isn't much worse than it is in WoW  then it should be managable. Will see how bad it is for myself when the game is finally available here.

Mal-Juun is the embodiment of how the NA MMO populace views any game that is not developed in America. It’s the popular thing to do dont’cha know.

So far, the fight that fans like us have with NCsoft is not the bot issue, nor character balancing, it is the complete lack of information regarding anything that NCsoft is providing the US/EU.  If NCsoft doesn't get their ass in gear quick and give us something concrete before summer, there are going to be a lot of pissed off Aion fans, hell, Aionsource alone has 14k members.

It's almost 2010, and I am just not wiling to tolerate clunky graphics while being told that "gameplay is more important than graphics". That excuse won't wash with me any more. I expect my games to have both good graphics and good gameplay.
