so no more high profile MMO's in 09???

I can't think of any high profile MMO's being developed or coming out in 2009....  Like War , LOTRO etc...

It seems like the next good MMO's are going to come from Asian developers...  TERA , Blade and soul, Continent of the Ninth

Star Wars: The Old Republic isn't enough high profile for you?

It could atleast enter the closed beta phase in Q4 this year.

hating or liking =/= not high profile.

Star Wars MMORPG after SWG will be a VERY VERY high profile game. Whether you like it or not.

Mortal Online should be released in Summer 09

     This from their FAQ:

Q: When will it be released?

    A: During summer 2009

But I guess this isn't really a AAA title.. which will hopefully keep some young ones away.

Never trust FAQ estimated release dates!
Nothing big is likely to release this year.

i dont know how high you consider high profile but earthrise and fallen earth are pretty big names along with champions online i guess

Champions Online comes to mind as a "big name release"

Smaller is Jumpgate Evo... but it's still a fair name.

Other then that I don't see any "big" releases this year.  I read that Guild Wars 2 was delayed again, but I was looking forward to seeing that one.

None of those are "high profile" games IMO. Maybe in Korea, but I don't live there.

Next big release is TOR. I'm definitely trying that one for a number of reasons, including wanting to check out something made with the Hero Engine. Nothing else on the horizon atm.

I would also try Champions. Loved CoH, so Champions might be good fun for at least a few months.

Yeah, DCUO 's not even in Alpha yet, it's very unlikely it will be out by the end of the year.  Of course this is SOE, so it wouldn't surprise me if they released an untested game just to sell a few boxes to cash in on.

     I agree.

As far as I know, AION launching in NA or EU would be the only AAA MMORPG out in 2009.  SW will definately NOT be out this year.  In fact, I put money down on a late 2010 launch at best...assuming they don't rush out a steaming, un-finished pile of poo.  Most of the other games mentioned are not AAA titles.  Thats not to say they won't be good or better than the AAA games, but they're not big titles.

nickelpat's list seems to be accurate. Many of those will most likely be release or enter open beta this year. I even dare to say DF will be released this year.

Guild Wars 2 is very unlikely to release in 2009, since they're not even trying to get that out in 2009.  I'm guessing that Star Trek Online and Star Wars:  The Old Republic won't, either.  Don't forget about The Chronicles of Spellborn, which probably will release this year.

I think the recession will force MMO's to launch sooner than we are used to. I don't think companies will get as much money/time as previosly to invest in a game. So some of these 09 release will definetely release in 09.

  • NoktarisNoktaris Member Posts: 270

I don't think we will see either Star Wars of Guild Wars 2 this year either. But if they did come out they would be the 2 I'm most looking forward to trying. Then DC Universe...I'm still undecided on Champions, but beta is coming along nicely.
