The company behind Stargate Worlds seems to be falling apart, so it's quite possible that the game won't release at all, whether in 2009 or in any other year. Some other company could pick up the IP, though.
DARKFALL ONLINE!!!!!!! WOOOOOO THE FALL OF THE DARK IS HERE!!!

No required quests! And if I decide I want to be an assassin-cartographer-dancer-pastry chef who lives only to stalk and kill interior decorators, then that's who I want to be, even if it takes me four years to max all the skills and everyone else thinks I'm freaking nuts. -Madimorga-
I would like to say Guild Wars 2, but I doubt it will be released this year. When it is released it will be the MMO of the year though (with regards to level of high-profileness).
Aion Jumpgate Evolution Stargate Worlds Guild Wars II Star Wars: The Old Republic Fallen Earth Earthrise Champions Online Huxley (possibly) Isn't Star Trek Online slated for a late '09 release?
I want to say Darkfall, but I have 20 bucks down saying it gets delayed to 2010 :P
Guild Wars 2 is very unlikely to release in 2009, since they're not even trying to get that out in 2009. I'm guessing that Star Trek Online and Star Wars: The Old Republic won't, either. Don't forget about The Chronicles of Spellborn, which probably will release this year.
Of all the games mentioned so far, I see only Aion, TCOS, DF as actually releasing this year. The others are 2010 titles at best.

Star Wars MMORPG after SWG will be a VERY VERY high profile game. Whether you like it or not.

I played a demo of Champions Online at last year's PAX, and I could easily see the game being ready to ship by summer 09. On the other hand, ArenaNet hasn't made any big announcements about Guild Wars 2, so I'm not quite sure that game will be out this year.
Since we're talking about wild speculation, I'm surprised nobody's mentioned Diablo 3. With Starcraft 2 being slated as Blizzard's summer release, I could see Diablo arriving for the 2009 holiday season. I've also heard DC Online may be out this year.

Well if Company goes south,i am sure someone would pick this promising looking game as long as its not SOE.
Originally posted by Zorndorf 2011: GW2 - or HOW you can still click in front of your character and think you play an MMO...without an auction house.
Guild Wars 2 will have an auction house.
And what does clicking in front of a character have to do with anything? You click on mobs to select them sometimes in Guild Wars, I guess, but so what? An awful lot of games do that.
Yes, you will have avatar combat, space combat, and planetary exploration in STO. It takes only a few minutes of googling to find it as they are the selling points.
GW has click movement, but also WASD movement. I believe GW2 may be removing the click movement and yes, it will have auction house (if that has anything to do with MMOs anyways...)
if you want to count them, there are two Battlefield games slated for an '09 release. The series is probably the closest that has come to large-scale battles (64 man battles). Battlefield 1943 and Battlefield Heroes. Both WWII shooters and I believe the server cap on both of them is 24 players as well as the fact you have unlimited ammo (although you have to reload) and regenerating health. I don't know if they're really 'massive' anymore takeing a 40 player hit to the server size.

That's because Diablo isn't an MMO.

Mortal Online could make it out by the end of the year. i think this game is going to pick up major steam soon especially if that timer on their website is really for beta.
SWTOR will not be coming out this year. Same with GW:2. Aion wll release in Q4.
There has been no offical announcement as to its being delayed. Officially its still on track to be released 4th quarter. Beta was delayed yes..but..GW Propheses beta was also delayed and the game still launched on time with only a few glitches. On Jan 30th Regina Buenaobra, whom is the community contact for Anet, announced that she has played GW2 inhouse, which leads many to believe it could still launch inQ4 of 09. If not..no biggie..i would rather have a polished game than the crap we been force fed of late

I haven't really been paying attention to GW2 at all...but it's been a few years since I first heard about it. Was hoping for better news then 2011 though on the release. Hell I feel myself growing old waiting for some new MMO's that are decent to be released. lol

I'm playing Mass Effect right now, BioWare makes one hell of an RPG, even a crap MMO from them would be good.

Not having any high profile mmos this year might be a good thing. Seems like every high profile mmo since WOW epically fails.

The only game I'm looking forward to is star wars, and that is coming out at the end of the year. I guess i'll have to play one more year of wow =/

one question about GW2 @46:50.. (not the exact words)
reporter: Currently Guildwars 2 is scheduled for a 2011 release, why the delay?
Chris Chung (CEO of NC West): During development we changed our plan and decided to make the game bigger and add more content as previously planned.
