Monthly Fee

Just wondering, what is everyone's guess as to what the monthly fee for EQII will be? The original EQ costs $12.95 per month ::::03:: and it's extremely cheap to buy. Since EQII costs $50 to buy, the price hopefully will not be above 13 bucks...

...Right?

Since EQ2 is suppose to be uber 1337, bla bla bla... they can easily as $15 and people will pay for it.

Don't go crazy if you do see a $15 tag for EQ2.  It's SOE, they might, who knows?

the prices for mmo's has been rising of late, i fully expect them to charge 15 p/mo, though they may charge more. i hope not. 15 is reasonable.

Well on another post I tried to figure out which game would be best for me, and someone said to check out EQ II. I went to the site, and he was absolutely right. On a fun factor scale of 1-10, this is a 10 (for me)!

Only thing is, if I want this game, I have to buy addition memory for my computer for $50, the game for $50, and a monthly fee of $15. That's insane! I mean, it's a game!

The game probably won't even run right if I don't buy $100 MORE memory...::::07::

  • DjinDjin Member, Newbie CommonPosts: 3,263

$50 for memory is cheap!  I spent $175 for one stick of 512Mb RAM... lol

Also think of an overall upgrade for your PC, not just "a game".

I spent almost $1200 for games on my PC.  And it's not memory that's going to make the game run better.  It's CPU, GPU [video card], RAM, and even the HDD [load times] will all have huge factors in how EQ2 runs.

If [that's a big if] I do play EQ2, I have a good feeling it won't run to well on my system...

Either way...some people may find $180 bucks a year for a game affordable, some may not. Even if I were to buy the game, just to try it out, it costs 50 bucks by itself. That would cost more than 3 months of play, so if I were to try it for a month , I'd be paying 115 dollars (counting the monthly fee and the memory), for a game.

    Sounds like a great deal...

No offence to the younger crowd, but it seems to me it's the 14 year olds who always whine about paying $13, or whatever it cost...

I understand you don't have jobs, but when you're not paying anything and your parents are... I wouldn't complain.

When you have an income and a decent job, then $13 isn't really anything... unless you're living so damn poor you can't afford $13 a month...

No offense taken. I'm 15, and I can afford it, I just don't prefer to pay 115 bucks in one month for a leisure activity, like a game. I don't have much time to play it anyway.

So long at is is less than $20 a month I dont mind, would prefer it to be less than $15.

Although I am in the UK and we get 17.5% VAT added onto our cost, so the lower the better as far as I am concerned.

I've spent thousands of dollars for Lacrosse, Soccer, Guitar, Piano, yaddi, yaddi, hair care, clothing, gas, maintenance, for me my wife and son, I think a few hundred dollars for some RAM and such should be OK.

We spend crazy amounts of money on stuff, why not spend it on games.  I mean, it would have to be pretty bloody expensive not to play EQ2.

I kinda hope it costs more than 12 year olds allowance. Keep it mature (I think).image

     Love you long time!

The only absolute in MMOs, is that the O will gaurantee a disproportionally high number of mouthbreathers in the game.

Ya, it's funny.. I will spend $20+ any given night I go out but if eq2 ended up being more then $20 a month I wouldn't play no matter how good people told me it was.  Just to much competition for it to be any higher.

It means that Massively Multiplayer Online, particularly the Online part(hence the O) is synonymous with idiots, and no amount of monthly fee will stop that.

I think $5 dollars a month is a fair price for their services. And by services I mean waiting 3 days for a gm response...

Anything is cheaper than the $70 - $80 I'm spending on games each month waiting for the next time sink to come out. I think $15 is fair, but, less is always better.

Personnally I don't care how much it costs... I'm gonna play.  When I used to play EQ it was more than just a game.  I have friends that I haven't seen for years but we could "hang out" in game.  I am hoping EQ2 will have the feel of EQ in the early years.  Might sound kinda lame but to me it is more than just a game.  Its an alternate life where I can go and forget everything except what I am doing at that moment.  Some people may say that even $15 would be too high just to play a game but if it gives you pleasure then why not?  If you go out to the bar you easily spend more than $20 in just a few hours so why not save a few bucks and have something that you can play 20 times longer and have just as much fun with??   All this is just my opinion though... I can't wait for this game.  :)

My guess is it will be the first game to break the $15 barrier weighing in at $16.95. I don't care if it's $20 a month, i'm playing it.

    +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Which will it be...EQ2 or WoW?

  • PuoltryPuoltry Member Posts: 956

Easily 20 to 25 bucks a month its SOE ya know.Look how much they charge for SWG.EQ2 is supposed to be the 3rd generation mmo right?

    Count on it costing more.

    Want to ENJOY an mmo?

Dont start a guild and dont be a leader or volunteer to be coleader or captain.

    Just play the damn game:)

  • dsorrentdsorrent Member CommonPosts: 1,627

They will probably go with the latest trend of tiered pricing.  Month to month will probably be like $19.95, 3 months @ $18.95/mo, 6 months @ 17.95/mo, 1 year @ 16.95/mo.

    That's my guess anyway.

And as for $20 or so being expensive, try going out to a bar anywhere in South Carolina and ordering a mixed drink like a white russian.  I remember my wife having 2 of them in one night and getting a bill for like $20.  (The reason SC is so expensive is they still have some stupid "mini-bottle" law here, so when you order a mixed drink, they make it with mini-bottles like you get at a hotel in your fridge and you wind up paying for the whole bottle)

So, when your choices are 2 white russians (mind numbing) vs. a full month of mind stimulating activity, I'm all for stimulating!

    :)

  • ColdmeatColdmeat Member UncommonPosts: 3,409

I wouldn't be so fast to refer to it as mind stimulating. And if they choose to jack up the price to $20, expect to see a lot of people leave after the first month, if they try it at all.

$15 at the most is fine for a casual gamer like me. all you hardcore fans can pay more if you want and get extra items and earlier patches and everything else. i dont know how people payed that $30 or $40 for that one special server on EQ... rich punks.
