Originally posted by dsorrent They will probably go with the latest trend of tiered pricing. Month to month will probably be like $19.95, 3 months @ $18.95/mo, 6 months @ 17.95/mo, 1 year @ 16.95/mo. That's my guess anyway. And as for $20 or so being expensive, try going out to a bar anywhere in South Carolina and ordering a mixed drink like a white russian. I remember my wife having 2 of them in one night and getting a bill for like $20. (The reason SC is so expensive is they still have some stupid "mini-bottle" law here, so when you order a mixed drink, they make it with mini-bottles like you get at a hotel in your fridge and you wind up paying for the whole bottle)
So, when your choices are 2 white russians (mind numbing) vs. a full month of mind stimulating activity, I'm all for stimulating!
Shit. And I thought 4 dollars for a drink at a bar sucked hard. Thanks for the info definetly never going to SC
I have to disagree with a lot of you. I think SOE is going to charge AT MOST $15.
The market is fairly saturated with decent MMO's out there and if a parent is allowing their child to play only 1 MMO, they will be turned off by a high monthly charge.
Personally, I'd pay no more then 20 a month, and I hope they offer 3/6/12 month discounts, b/c I'll prolly do that after the first month...
I'm 22, btw, and I have a fairly decent job, so I can afford whatever price (reasonably). I'm just thinking about the people still financially dependent on their parents...
we can speculate all day long, but we will never truely know until after they lift the NDA and go to open beta and start telling us things. i doubt they will go as high as 20 though.

I don't think the NDA has anything to do with the price, to be honest with you. I've participated in several beta's and the price of the game was not something ever openly discussed with the beta testers. It's more of a corporate decision as opposed to asking the players how much they will be willing to pay.
Most people already pay upwards of 39.99 a month for DSL and half the people who play these games have alot of free time thus not a very time consuming job that makes them alot of money.
thats not at all what i was saying, i was saying that by the time they release the NDA which is shortly, then they should have decided on what price it will be, among other things. since that will be very close to release time. not that they were asking players how much they would pay, that would be kind of weird.
EQ2 will be an amazing game, and definitely worth 15 a month, 20 a month is just too expensive, not that its unreasonable, because for people that can afford it, its definitely worth it, but most people that play this game cannot afford to pay for the game, computer upgrades, expansions, and an additional 20 dollars a month for a game they need to work their ass off to play.
I totally agree with you! I'm gonna play no matter what the cost. When I played EQ I could forget about my real life problems and just have fun with friends online. All the stress of the days would be gone for hours and I was still sober! You don't have to pay BIG $ for alcohol when ya got EQ2. I'd rather play EQ2 for a month than get drunk in the club for twice the price and only 1 night. (Even though it is fun also)
All the new games are charging $15 bucks. I know Lineage2 and City of Heroes both charge $15 and I believe FFXI does also if not a buck less. So with that in mind I wouldn't bother paying $15-20 because EQ2 >>> all other MMORPG (for me that is). Although I'd be thrilled if they charged lower.
And to all those who HATE on the customer service, I have a positive thing to say. I played EQ for years. Once my character got deleted. My brother and I were fighting and he deleted my character. I petitioned a GM and within an hour I had my character back in the same shape. EQ has around half a million players suscribed. Now I know they arn't all on at the same time but suppose like 50,000 are on and only a handful of GMs are available. They arn't superhumans. They can only do 1 at a a time. Now if you want better customer service, expect to pay more. I'd rather pay $15 or less and wait a couple of hours as other players say (even though i only waited less than an hour) for customer service than have SOE jack up the monthly prices to pay for more GMs. Think about it that way...
I would guess $15 as well, but I'll play regardless. I understand cost being an issue for those of you who play multiple games. I have a tendency to really immerse in one game, and work to make the character(s) a reflection of my personality. I also play with family and friends who are spread out all over the US, so it gives us fun time and a way of staying closely connected in a fast paced world. That is worth a lot more to me than $15 a month.

20 US is steep, thats like 25 million canadian, I'll have to go back to school and get a real job.
But I'm still getting it. (If my wife says it's ok)
Any higher then $15 and it will be a racket.

Is SWG almost 15 a month?
If so, since EQ2 is newer, could cost more.
But wait until SOE finally releases a price (if they ever do, as secret as they have been about the game, ROFL)
if i remember rightly SWG subscription was abit higher than the others $14.99 a month, i can see EQ2 being in lines with that prices also.
It will be interesting to see how much world of warcraft will charge.
