Sad part, 10,000-50,000 are about to donate money to save DFO regardless. 50,000 accounts is about 9,000,000 EURO a year never having to expend with new servers and more costs. No surprise they are going on the cheap with a one server limited release thing. The sad part is, a lot of guilds are going to pissed when they have members that can't get in the game because it is sold out.
...unless they want to make more money.
But hey maybe ur right, maybe these guys just wanted to make a game they could play with their friends and earn just enough get by gaming.
If the game was in trouble after release, and needed, say a million dollars within 30 days or it will close down... how much would you chip in to keep it going? Remember: this is niche community, so we all have to do our part.

Stranger things have happened. Look at Heroes Journey. Simu shelved their game and are now just selling the Heroes Journey engine for other developers.
By the way, 9,000,000 EURO is a really nice chunk of change to share annually between the six investors. That is a lot more than "getting by" money.
Fear not fanbois, we are not trolls, let's take off your tin foil hat and learn what VAPORWARE is:
"Vaporware is a term used to describe a software or hardware product that is announced by a developer well in advance of release, but which then fails to emerge after having well exceeded the period of development time that was initially claimed or would normally be expected for the development cycle of a similar product."
Remember: this is niche community, so we all have to do our part.

Sorry, but no we dont! We are meant to be the customers. It is not the customers job to save a dieing company i'm afraid.
If you go to your local grocery store, and the lady at the checkout tells you "excuse me, but we are going through difficulties, can you give us an extra X dollars please?" would you do it?
My grocery store asks me that all the time - "Would you like to donate to the sick people in Africa?"...my response is normally "I have their donation right here." and I grab my crotch.
This game has always been made by a small bunch of people....if they want to play with the Big Boys, then that's another story.

Just FYI, here's the story behind Hero's Journey. The devs at Simutronics are madly working away at Hero's Journey. They go to a game conference and show off what they have so far with Hero Engine.
The lead dev of Simutronics is old friends with the guy that becomes the lead dev for The Old Republic. The dev from TOR says, hey, we like this Hero Engine. We want to buy it.
Dev from Simu says, uh, that's nice and all, but it's not finished yet, and we're working on this Hero's Journey thing and..
The dev from TOR says, we dont' care. I like what I see, we'll buy it now. You drop the Hero's Journey thing, and finish the engine for us.

yeah not to mention that Bioware prolly paid a nice chunk of change for the engine...so which would you go with.....money which you are guaranteed and probably sold for a very nice profit (selling the engine to bioware) or finishing the game and hoping you make back enough money after developement and publishing (finishing hero's journey and producing it).

The Hero Engine was built from the start with the intention to sell it to game developers. Hero's Journey was just a project to show off the engine.
It's not like they started to just build an MMORPG, and then decided to sell the engine. The developers just didn't think anyone would buy the engine until they saw a finished MMO first.

A game as good as DF claims to be will survive on it's own merits, not by begging for handouts. The begging for handouts part DF already did with it's investers. And all the "consumers"(that's us) have is a lot of lip service and a closed beta which worth less than a cup of coffee. Have you asked Bernard Madoff if he would inves....um, I mean donate some money??
Let me try some math here....
Extremely long development time + lots of lip service * Closed beta / begging for $$ from wouldbe consumers = a sinking ship!

After watching a couple of darkfall vids on youtube I feel like Adventurine owes me $1000.00.
Im not trolling Im serious, Adventurine pay up.
Id give my 25,000 bonus if it meant i could play.
If this were F2P game then I would consider donating, in the same way other freeware apps are supported today.
Wait, isn't a donation the same as a pre-order?
I voted yes on that basis. Hell, I'd give em 50 bucks for it if it would help them succeed.
