He is comparing the fact that WoW (a huge MMO) delayed multiple times and by some of the definitions in this thread "lied" to the community and were somewhat similar with their info. Except that by the time Blizzard started working on WoW, they had already developed a reputation of releasing games "when they're done", so people knew to expect delays and periods without detailed info. Blizzard ALSO had a reputation for putting out quality games that have enormous replay value. They'd earned the right to delay games and to take their time in development, since folks knew that the wait would ultimately be worth it. This is a legit comparison but your one track mind refuses to even acknowledge that a "fanboy" has made a statement that you may have to back down on. We do it all the time...why cant you? It's not a legit comparison. Aventurine hasn't earned the reputation for quality that Blizzard has. Why do you think people are willing to wait an age and a half for Starcraft 2 and Diablo 3? Because they know Blizzard's past performance, and they know the wait will be worth it.
If Aventurine can't be expected to live up to Blizzard's ability to do marketing or promotion, or in programming an MMO in less than a decade (since WoW only took between 4-5 years from when they started to when they launched), why should they be given any benefits of the doubt that Blizzard has earned through their past performance?

That's funny. I remember playing EQ1 when WoW was in development, and I never saw folks freaking out saying that a Blizzard MMO wouldn't work. If anything, they said the opposite-- they couldn't wait to play it because Blizzard was known for quality and SOE was shit, so as soon as the game launched, they were jumping ship.
As the beta developed further and release got closer, the excitement got even more palpable, with folks ultimately leaving EQ1 for WoW at launch. Sure, a few people went back, but most stayed gone.

-Dismiss any criticism of the game as invalid because AV deserves some special treatment or something.
-Take any critic, ignore most of its points, answer to one specific point in a totally out of context way, then procede to:

It's not a problem of PVP/PVE, Sandbox or DFO. It's a pb of common sense . If a lot of players pay for something they never tried, saw etc, we 'll have more and more VG/AOC/DnL each year. MMO's world is CATASTROPHIC. IMO it's enough now, we need polished games, serious companies and good and well tested products.

Im in the middle on this discussion... I really want the game to launch, so I can greedily play it. But at the same time, I know it won't because my friend tells me that it's not really close to being done.

So lets get a few things cleared up, i know it wont stop the crying as most of it is just a way to troll aimlessly, but maybe it will open a few eyes.... 1) Aventurine has made some rookie mistakes by announcing multiple development timelines that they have failed to meet. Obviously they should have kept quiet unless they were 100% positive. No one will argue this. 2) You, YES YOU, decided to follow this game prelaunch. You have not invested anything in DF. 3) Aventurine has every right to not tell us anything until the game is ready for purchase, yet they still take the time to keep us in the loop. 4) Them failing to meet announced dates is NOT lieing. 5) They don't "suck at PR"...they made a choice to not dedicate their resources to it in the same way of other MMOs that have spolied us with lots of info prelaunch (most of which have failed miserably).
The only thing that you have a right to judge Darkfall on is the finished product on release....that is it.
Now you may judge aventurine on its business decisions all you want, but they are very different things. Tasos being a little overzealous does not mean these guys dont know how to develop a mmo. And if you want to debate Aventurine's business decision to not do a lot of PR, go for it, my arguement is that for the last few months they have been at the top of this sites "unique hits" every day and their beta signups for a game with a small audience seems to show they have the word out, even with assuming a lot of people just sign up for a free game.

Darkstar, I think that you're arguing for the sake or arguing. The thing is that when you're dealing with a game that requires a subscription, the game itself is only part of the equation. The company that runs the game is the other part.
The MMO industry revolves around service. The customer pays a monthly fee and the company provides a service. Customer service is extremely important for a service provider. It always has to be there and not start after the customer payed. Providing good customer service will ensure that people will pay. it's really a basic concept.
At this point, customer service does not exist in Darkfall or Aventurine. The biggest problem is that since AV is so unforthcoming with basic, yet important information, one may start to wonder if there is anything else that they are hiding? System specs, pre-order info and availability those things need to be known months in advance so that customers can prepare. If that information is not available a week prior to release, think about what other information may not be available due to lack of proper customer service and the NDA.
Also, think about what will happen when the game goes live and people begin to actually pay money.

Its true that Aventurine haven't lied about anything yet, because frankly they haven't released anything, what they have done however like any other company before them is give a load of bullshit and make a bunch of far out promises that they can't keep.
Darkfall is very real, I've been in their beta but got banned for bitching too much and trolling fanbois, whats in question now is their integrity and who they want to cater for which is why I just ignore both the fanbois and the trolls here because niether of them have any credibility anymore or really did to begin with.

I pretty much agree with the OP except for the part about Tasos being overzealous. The only people who would have a right to be mad if this game fails are the investors.
This is true. We the consumers shouldn't be as angry as the investors if DF fails. But, even If the game is being released a couple months early, I'm still purchasing it and plan on playing it for quite some time. I can deal with bugs and not act like a little schoolgirl and flood the boards with rants rants and waaaaaaaaaaaaaaa's. I'll just make notes of what's working, what's bugged, and go on from there, *shrug*

Darkstar, I think that you're arguing for the sake or arguing. The thing is that when you're dealing with a game that requires a subscription, the game itself is only part of the equation. The company that runs the game is the other part.
The MMO industry revolves around service. The customer pays a monthly fee and the company provides a service. Customer service is extremely important for a service provider. It always has to be there and not start after the customer payed. Providing good customer service will ensure that people will pay. it's really a basic concept.
At this point, customer service does not exist in Darkfall or Aventurine. The biggest problem is that since AV is so unforthcoming with basic, yet important information, one may start to wonder if there is anything else that they are hiding? System specs, pre-order info and availability those things need to be known months in advance so that customers can prepare. If that information is not available a week prior to release, think about what other information may not be available due to lack of proper customer service and the NDA.
Also, think about what will happen when the game goes live and people begin to actually pay money.

Its true that Aventurine haven't lied about anything yet, because frankly they haven't released anything, what they have done however like any other company before them is give a load of bullshit and make a bunch of far out promises that they can't keep.
Darkfall is very real, I've been in their beta but got banned for bitching too much and trolling fanbois, whats in question now is their integrity and who they want to cater for which is why I just ignore both the fanbois and the trolls here because niether of them have any credibility anymore or really did to begin with.

and maybe the Devs. aren't the problem, but Tasos has got to be the worst (well as that person put it earlier) "face person" they couldve picked. Hes so full of himself I think thats why everyone hates him.
Maybe we should hold a "Darkfall Amnesty Day" where we all don't slam DF/Aventurine for 24 hours or something? That might make the fanbois happy.

This is true. We the consumers shouldn't be as angry as the investors if DF fails. But, even If the game is being released a couple months early, I'm still purchasing it and plan on playing it for quite some time. I can deal with bugs and not act like a little schoolgirl and flood the boards with rants rants and waaaaaaaaaaaaaaa's. I'll just make notes of what's working, what's bugged, and go on from there, *shrug*
