I have been waiting for about 5 years now (registered on boards in 05) not like all these people proclaiming that they have been waiting since summer of 89.
The game has the features I was looking for, is stable, has plenty of things to do, is of good graphical quality (no matter how much most people want to bash it the gameworld is gorgeous).
The UI is not intuitive at first but that's because its not the same WOW, AOC, WAR UI that you have all come to love and cannot comprehend anything different. truth is that for DF this UI makes sense after a couple hours, and can of course be changed around with the bindkeys *gasp*
Best of all I actually have some heart palpitations when I am PKing, I havent had this since playing Asheron's call from 2000-2004, thats 5 years of boring mmorpgs and Ive tried a lot of them....
Developers are competent and listen to the community, a plus in my eyes. The minimum bugs and issues like mob density will be forgotten very soon
Basically I will buy this game, support it and have fun doing it.

yep, i absolutely loved the 2-3 weeks i have played so far in beta, the freeform PVP and exploration is second to none.
Fantastic, another circle-jerk thread for fans of this game to tell each other how great it is, just like the hundred others that have been posted since the NDA lifted.
So did you get 'heart palpitations' for the whole five minutes you spent chasing the guy who was running away from PVP? Or was it limited to the times when you were slow-motion-dodging those goofy blue magic balls? How about while you were grinding resource gathering (I hear writing macros can be heart-palpitating stuff)? Or attacking someone with the exact same single polearm-swing for the millionth time to raise your skill? or watching another gorgeous sunset over the lovingly hand-crafted, beautifully rendered and completely lifeless barren world of Agon?
Thrilling stuff, thanks for reminding us once again totally how awesome this game is going to be, just in case we forgot the last salivating mouth-breathing post we read... which is not unlikely, they have a tendency to make your eyes glaze over after a while.
So when does it actually get released?
Are you serious?
Yes?
QFT LOL
I will admit that DFO is 'ready' to release, as all of it's features are in (I am assuming Siege and naval are in). My only complaint is their implementation: It is obvious that they accomplished the hardcore PvP part with the full loot and ganking, but the game lacks substance, I just fail to see the sandbox element in many areas.
Battles also look fun and immersive when seeing 2 groups clashing, especially considering you're risking your whole equipment in the battle, but the combat system lacks depth imo.
The massive world and exploration aspect is also a plus point in my book. I kinda like the art direction of the game, but the world looks kinda amateurish, and the animations lacking.
In the end I guess the game could keep me entertained for a few days or a week, but I just dont see myself playing an MMO thats so shallow for more than that, it just seems like a persistent FPS with capture the flag elements.
I wish all DF players the best of luck, and hopefully the game will be good to my taste in a few month/year.
The rules of Debate are really simple; once you have to stoop to insults instead of facts, logic, or reason to try and win your argument, you've lost.
And even though you had attacked (circle - jerk thread?), I do not find this post to be trolling. You made some very viable points and they were true, BUT, why do these points have to matter to everyone?
Some folks may like "goofy blue magic balls" (I played magestorm back in the days so I am no stranger to goofy magic balls flyign everywhere). Some people may prefer the long grindy skill training (again, played RF Online for a bit, as well as Saga of Ryzom both have skill grinds). As for chasing the guy in PvP, there was alot of that in Shadowbane as well ( a PvP game) and it wasn't a bad thing, but basically a part of the game because of the nature of getting killed in PvP..
While you make points, they are not always negatives to everyone..
Good to see you agree with me 100%
OP.I see you have a avatar of AC Darktide. You ll feel right at home then. I let youu figure it out:)

It would've been nice, yeah. But you've accidentally linked to yet another boring YouTube video with still more running, single sword swings and goofy blue magic balls. The only heart palpitations I got were from laughter when the bagpipe background music turned into bagpipe drum'n'bass. Priceless!

The problem is, thats it for DF. This is basically what you ll log into daily. I mean yes theres more to it, but not much. I ve been more excited watching Dr. Phil on tv. Ok that was a little harsh but you get my point.

I love the banter that is going on in this video. Can always gauge a person’s intelligence by the number of expletives they use.

Yeah the new duke nukem is also ready for release.
The bs this game generates is incredible.
I'm not a no life that sits in front of his computer all day long, I'm an intern that sits in front of his computer all day long.
Sounds like the folks who enjoyed the beta are ready for launch, and it looks like they're going to get their wish. (against the advice of some others however)
As long as its good enough to keep folks happy, that's all that matters I suppose, but the true test will be a few months down the road.

20-50k can love the game all they want it will still be a complete failure with that amount
@ Greek_Matt
I don't get why people get so bent out of shape because somebody is excited about the game and wants to play it. I'm not beta testing it nor do I plan on buying it at this point but there is no reason to act like a jerk to someone who didn't attack you in the first place because they are simply excited to play the game. Let him have his fun if this is what is fun for him. Take a chill pill and stop being such a sour puss. So many people are walking around so angry here... sheeshh...
You would be right if Adventurine had a pile of money invested. However, last I heard they had a minimal amount invested so 50k could hold them over quite well.

Ah I see, ur not an MMO player.
Well there are plenty of Single player games out there that will cater to ur expectations.
U see and MMO player cares first and foremost about gameplay, not solo gameplay mind u, group gameplay. And the ability to have ur gameplay completly changed around by the actions of urself and other players, that is after all the whole point of an MMO.
(Also u didnt see the clip, since it didnt have any running, not that there is anything wrong with that)

Please don't confuse being "angry" with being "bored at work", both excellent motivations for posting here. I'm not "bent out of shape" either, just tired of seeing thread after thread with nothing new to add, or accusing those that haven't gotten on the Darkfall love-train of being trolls, carebears, ignorant, fearful, paranoid, having hidden agendas etc etc etc. Sure this was one of the former, but my opinion of this topic hasn't changed because of it.
Moreover, responding to a post in an emotive manner is part of the essence of these boards - think how pointless and boring it would be if every reply post was either "/Agree" or "/Respectfully Disagree". Neither does it mean that I'm angry, nor that I have a personal dislike for the person to whom I'm responding
Besides, I think it's pretty safe to assume that if the OP is loving Darkfall so much they have a sufficiently thick skin to be able to withstand my unprovoked "jerk attack". Very noble of you to leap to their aid though, I'm sure they appreciate it.

Thanks for your informed analysis of what an MMO player 'is', and I don't disagree with the (albeit extremely limited) definition you have there. However this was not illustrated at all in the video you linked... there was no "gameplay", there were no tactics, there was no skill, there was just a bunch of toons running (yes running) around chasing each other endlessly, one fleeing while the other executed the same weapon swing again and again and again until the battle was finally, mercifully over.
Your average online FPS has far more variety, teamwork and tactical thinking involved than anything in that clip. Your average MMO does too. In trying to make a hybrid of these things, Aventurine have successfully managed to purge out the best of both genres and leave behind only this slow, boring hack'n'chase with a few token time-sinks thrown in (gathering, crafting, grinding skills) to make it seem like you're making some sort of progress rather than just living in Groundhog Day.
No the average FPS has much less skill involved than PKing in Darkfall, where u have to monitor stats, heal/rez clanmates, protecting bodies loot while being attacked, use mounts, be careful about siege leader while conducting a raid on settlements, keeping eye on buffs/debuffs, different spell combot giving different results depending on circumstance
on top of the obvious FPS skill based combat that DF obviously does have
Dont try to troll me, you cant LOL I played DT and your little whining (of a person who self admittedly did not even play the game) will not change anyone's opinion.
that's that
your eyes were so glazed over that you typed up this raging rant while you were falling asleep.
