Fantastic, another circle-jerk thread for fans of this game to tell each other how great it is, just like the hundred others that have been posted since the NDA lifted. So did you get 'heart palpitations' for the whole five minutes you spent chasing the guy who was running away from PVP? Or was it limited to the times when you were slow-motion-dodging those goofy blue magic balls? How about while you were grinding resource gathering (I hear writing macros can be heart-palpitating stuff)? Or attacking someone with the exact same single polearm-swing for the millionth time to raise your skill? or watching another gorgeous sunset over the lovingly hand-crafted, beautifully rendered and completely lifeless barren world of Agon? Thrilling stuff, thanks for reminding us once again totally how awesome this game is going to be, just in case we forgot the last salivating mouth-breathing post we read... which is not unlikely, they have a tendency to make your eyes glaze over after a while.
It would've been nice, yeah. But you've accidentally linked to yet another boring YouTube video with still more running, single sword swings and goofy blue magic balls. The only heart palpitations I got were from laughter when the bagpipe background music turned into bagpipe drum'n'bass. Priceless!
classic. since you had no point to make you bag on the youtube posters choice of background music. i bet you're real good at pointing out typos and grammar mistakes in your argumentation to. those are the kinds of things people do when they fail at coming up with relevant dialog.
@ Greek_Matt I don't get why people get so bent out of shape because somebody is excited about the game and wants to play it. I'm not beta testing it nor do I plan on buying it at this point but there is no reason to act like a jerk to someone who didn't attack you in the first place because they are simply excited to play the game. Let him have his fun if this is what is fun for him. Take a chill pill and stop being such a sour puss. So many people are walking around so angry here... sheeshh...
Please don't confuse being "angry" with being "bored at work", both excellent motivations for posting here. I'm not "bent out of shape" either, just tired of seeing thread after thread with nothing new to add, or accusing those that haven't gotten on the Darkfall love-train of being trolls, carebears, ignorant, fearful, paranoid, having hidden agendas etc etc etc. Sure this was one of the former, but my opinion of this topic hasn't changed because of it.
Moreover, responding to a post in an emotive manner is part of the essence of these boards - think how pointless and boring it would be if every reply post was either "/Agree" or "/Respectfully Disagree". Neither does it mean that I'm angry, nor that I have a personal dislike for the person to whom I'm responding
Besides, I think it's pretty safe to assume that if the OP is loving Darkfall so much they have a sufficiently thick skin to be able to withstand my unprovoked "jerk attack". Very noble of you to leap to their aid though, I'm sure they appreciate it.
lol bored at work is the first good reason iv seen so far for griefing on this forums. all the rest of them are copmplaining about being lied to as there reason. babies if you ask me.

Ah I see, ur not an MMO player.
Well there are plenty of Single player games out there that will cater to ur expectations.
U see and MMO player cares first and foremost about gameplay, not solo gameplay mind u, group gameplay. And the ability to have ur gameplay completly changed around by the actions of urself and other players, that is after all the whole point of an MMO.
(Also u didnt see the clip, since it didnt have any running, not that there is anything wrong with that)
-Darkstar
That kind of elitist and completly redundant generalization makes you look like a fool, and is not what is gonna defend the game from its critics.
The rules of Debate are really simple; once you have to stoop to insults instead of facts, logic, or reason to try and win your argument, you've lost.

Thanks for your informed analysis of what an MMO player 'is', and I don't disagree with the (albeit extremely limited) definition you have there. However this was not illustrated at all in the video you linked... there was no "gameplay", there were no tactics, there was no skill, there was just a bunch of toons running (yes running) around chasing each other endlessly, one fleeing while the other executed the same weapon swing again and again and again until the battle was finally, mercifully over.
Your average online FPS has far more variety, teamwork and tactical thinking involved than anything in that clip. Your average MMO does too. In trying to make a hybrid of these things, Aventurine have successfully managed to purge out the best of both genres and leave behind only this slow, boring hack'n'chase with a few token time-sinks thrown in (gathering, crafting, grinding skills) to make it seem like you're making some sort of progress rather than just living in Groundhog Day.
So ur saying 9 ppl defeated 20 by accident?
A guy looking at UO pvp thats never played or seen UO will have the same reaction, try looking at an average 5 v 5 arena match in wow from a warriors perspective, and if u have not played wow u will have the same reaction.
All u see is the animation, and u missed the gameplay because u dont know it.
Greek-Matt is right about some things, guys. Although he is certainly doing his best to show off his master degree in sarcasm. Apart from the tone of voice he is right in arguing that combat looks pretty dumbed down to a neutral observer. Still, it looks like the people in the linked clip experienced quite a lot of excitement.
The explanation lies in the fact that pretty much all of the curent beta players (and me for one) have been yearning for a truly ffa pvp full loot game since it brings excitement to pvp no matter how bad the animations or combat mechanics are. Stuff like average character design and bad animations do derive of people's immersion, though.
Still, eventually, people will want to experience more and have entertaining alternatives to random ffa pvp and I have yet to see how well endgame aspects, like naval battles turned out. So for me it is still to early to declare Darkfall a 'ready for launch' game. I will give it a one month wait after launch at least.
