Originally posted by kokopuff Originally posted by tcosaddict I agree, you're overreacting. The rogue system was seriopusly broken. People were constantly jumping in front of others to intercept their attack, that way they could kill and loot them with no penalty. That's not hardcare, is complete douchebaggery. The idea is that you're not supposed to kill your race without some penalty. If you exploit a game mechanic it doesn't add to the immersion and reality factor, it makes you a piece of garbage. Also, don't turn on the teammate visuals if you don't want them. It doesn't have to affect your precious fog of war. From the notes I've read I only want the game more. The devs seem to have a very good idea of how to correct the seemingly major issues of the game. It gives me more hope for the future of the game.
The rogue system wasn't broke at all, it rewarded players who paid attention and not the ones blindly auto attacking mobs while IM'n and watching youtube. If in real life you accidently hit someone else with your weapon first guess whos at fault? Darkfall had the same system in place, but now its failing one concession here and their that dumb down the game mechanics is all it takes to make this game catered to the ignorant, stupid, blind legions of carebears who've ruined so many games in past years.
IF IN REAL LIFE...?? Its not real life. Its a game.
Regardless, in real life Ive never seen thousands of people running around with swords and shooting arrows and balls of flame at eachother.
In real life if I happened to see two people fighting with swords the last thing I would do is jump in between them so I could get hit and and have the right to attack them in return.
That means if you hit somone that jumped in front of you, you have to stay put and being beaten for 10 seconds to not be rogue for 2 minutes? And after the 10 seconds, the one that jumped you will turn grey and then you can attack him? But you will be lower in health and will die anyway. I don't see this is a solution.
If he keeps attacking you and goes grey then you can kill him without getting a penalty, that's the difference. If he tries to keep fighting and he kills you, he gets a penalty. Even if it doesn't stop people from being killed by assholes, at least the asshole gets the PK status he deserves. Also, you can lure him to a guard tower like so many people like to do, and let them help you kill him. Chances are, if he's enough of a pansee to need you to be grey to want to kill you, he'll stop attacking when your grey status wears off and go about his business. If not, you can try to take him out without fear of getting a penalty, yourself.
Also, no one said you have to stay put and get wailed on. Sprint away for 10 seconds and try to avoid being hit, problem solved. If they suck at shooting and you're good at dodging, you can avoid taking any damage whatsoever.

Killing him is almost a zero chance because if he jumped in front of you it's because he sees the chances are in his favour. Add to that, the fact that he will be attacking you for 10 seconds. So yes the only solution is to run for 10 seconds, then if he stops, you have lost some time for nothing. If he keeps attacking you, you will die 9 times of 10. In both situations you lose time or loot. While the griefer loses time in one situation and wins loot in the other. So the mechanics still benefit the griefer.

That's true but you have to consider that it is a PvP oriented game. If a guy wants to kill you regardless of faction allegience, he's going to try. This new system at least means he'll more likely get the penalty he deserves for doing so. The point isn't to prevent people from killing their own faction, if they wanted to do that they'd just disable friendly fire. The point is to make sure that if someone does decide to go against their alliance, they'll receive the consequence originally intended by the developers. Also, who cares if you lose 10 seconds? It's still an improvement over losing your life and everything on you. Originally your only options were to go rogue trying to defend yourself or let him kill you and lose everything. Adding the loss of time as a less severe option seems like a good thing to me. Definitely seems like a step in the right direction, even if it isn't perfected yet. I think the devs underestimated the douchebaggery of their potential player base, so they didn't plan for people doing this, or at least didn't put much emphasis on it until it was brought to their attention.
Also, it's going to cut back the attempts of people trying to get you grey because it's likely going to end up as a severe waste of their time. The only people that will benefit really are zergs who either hit you once each then let you die to a goblin or hit you then wait 10 seconds and repeat.
Did anyone else catch the OP say that his GUILD actually considers jumping in front of someone an ACTUAL TACTIC. I must say your guild is a bunch of Douchebags if all day they devise a strategy run into another person's sword just so you can kill them without having the penalty. ....
Interestingly, IIRC a "troll" predicted this 'tactic' a couple of months ago and was labelled a 'hater'?
Hmmm. Looks like the Hater Troll actually knew something about MMOs and game design? Is he still a 'troll' then?
It depends on if you agree with him.
On these forums, troll is defined as "a person with a different opinion" and trolling is defined as "the act of posting something someone else does not agree with"
Alignment Rogue handling has been tweaked: * If you have positive alignment and attack another player with positive alignment, you will go rogue for 10 seconds
* Every subsequent attack towards a good player while on the 10 second rogue mode will make you go rogue for at least 2 minutes
Carebears have already started their dumbing down of the rogue system.
Players in the same clan will now have a visual marker to identify each other. This can be toggled by /clan_toggle_display
# Players in the same party will now have a visual marker to identify each other. This can be toggled by /party_toggle_display
Next patch will probably remove friendly fire and add guard towers to all wilderness banks, and if were lucky we can get insurance's on all our gear so if we die we just lose some money.
Carebears don't know who to attack now have have nice shiney visual floatey's above their friendly's. Nice to have fog of the war thrown out of the game just before launch.
Talk about carebear... with a name like Kokopuff? How about Count Chocula? rofl

Are you being serious? There are ways to sneak in this game. Players would actually sneak up and run in front of you mid-swing, which has a fairly large cone of damage, so they would get hit. I read in a newbie guide for the game that the person who wrote it found someone with their back to a tree shooting into the air, macro grinding magic. He climbed half way up the tree and jumped in front of the mana missile to make the afker go rogue. In that case, it was justified. The point is, people will go out of their way to fuck you over if given the chance. In real life, if you're swinging around a weapon then you deserve whatever you get. Darkfall isn't real life or a substitute for it, no matter how much you want it to be. Ever think of lag? What if lag hits. People will know. They can jump in front of you and due to your lag you might not even know until the swing you put in 10 seconds ago goes in. Then it just so happens to land on a player you never even saw. Give me a break. When will the trolls give up? I mean, really. The game is receiving far more good reviews than bad, the devs are working hard to correct the issues before release, the game is actually shaping up quite well. Find a new pass-time. Darkfall trashing is coming to an end. I'd move on to bashingm Mortal Online, if I were you. Just a suggestion.
SO you're saying that people AFK macro'ing for skill ups is something we all should do? I woulda done the same thing and jump in front of that missle to kill that SOB cheater.

If you read past that line you will see that immediately after pointing out that example I said it was justified. I agree 100%. I would have done the exact same thing lol. I was only using it as an example of the extent people are willing to go to just to get in front of your attack. Imagine a guy dropping in front of you off a tree when you're fighting a monster, lol.
