Played it. Game is great, therefore I give money.
Like someone else said, it is a tiny company going through their first launch with HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS of people trying to get in. They do not deserve slack on the game and gameplay because they have talked it up, but they do(imo) deserve some slack on launch.
sorry i disagree no company deserves slack on launch anymore. idc if they are in indie company. mmos have been around long enough for us to deserve smooth launches and good communication. this last minute stuff tasos does is just signs pointing towards reoccuring issues with AV.
you go launch an mmo and see how "easy" it is
Better yet launch an MMO with a 30 man team to 200,000+ players. MMO's have been around long enough for them to be able to utilize the numbers and budget other MMO developers had right? Haha.
rediculous statements IMO. as a consumer I dont just let it go when they get my meal wrong at a restaurant cause the waiter and/or chef are new. they are a professional company....they need to act like one. too many ppl continue to accept mediocre game launches and pay for it and we will continue to get that until we expect what we pay for
Then dont play. Wait for 4 months are see how the game is doing......noone is forcing you or even asking you to play. The fact is 4 months from now noone will give a shit about the launch. They will care if the game is good and if it is getting updated.

Where is Aventurine launching a game for 200k+ players?
I'm looking for something with a challenge that's different. I love the concept behind DarkFall and I hope they pull it off. I'm still amazed at the amount of hype around the game though and the incredibly unrealistic expectations of some. I'll probably be signing up about a month after the game goes live and stabilizes. Right now I'm just here to kick back, relax, and troll the trolls.
thats how im approaching this game too i want to see how well it handles after being out for awhile and then we will see
Yup, far from a flawless launch. But I don't mind handing them my money since this is their first mmorpg and I would have been really surprised if everything had gone as planned. If it had been some big company who had countless game releases and should have had the experience on how to handle releases, I would have been a lot more upset. And I'd rather support some small company which deliver something new (to me at least) and unique than one of the countless clones which has been released the last few years. So there...
yea its the big companies who dont really care much else than making money so they release before its ready and tell a few fibs here and there!
That is exactly what AV has done!! DF is nowhere near ready! They only tested the very basic features.
AV i think are purely doing this for us gamers to enjoy, and well for their own achievement as well!
It will be good im sure, even if not at first....just like any mmo!
You're kidding yourself if you think AV isn't trying to make money.

Do you mean you go onto restaurant forums and make sure everyone else is "informed" that they got your meal wrong?

OP is about communication!
Ofc i know they want to make money from it, but they are not hyping the game up themselves are they. They (or so we all hope) are focusing on launching a game to the best possible standard they can...for us players to enjoy!

You mean games that sucked on launch, not had a bad release(delayed, staggered ect..)
Two different things. And since I have played DF, I am not worried about the former.

I am tired of shitty games ala WAR and AoC. I could give 2 shits about how they get the game out, or how long it takes as long as the game is solid, and something I enjoy.

I rather think that's the point. People are interested in Darkfall because it promises something different on the things that actually matter. Gameplay, skill development, for some it's PvP. Compared to those sorts of things, customer service just doesn't rank very highly.
Watching the evolution of fanboys is always a fun sight. First, they claim up and down that said game's company is the greatest. They praise the company, the game and say things like "this has almost no bugs in it!"
Second they start deteriorating, saying things like "Well, a few things are missing but it is for the good of the game... the company can't do this forever... they're new.... they're an indie company... you try better"
When news comes out that the company has completely failed their launch they make excuses (although before they were boasting on how great the company was and how they will make the deadline) such as "Who didn't expect this /hurr" or "You idiot it's an indie company think how hard it has to be" or my personal favorite "all games have problems at launch!" (even though I have not known an MMORPG that didn't even allow users to pay for it on opening day).
Soon we'll have some of the longtime fanboys come to realization and we'll see a few posts like "You were right...." or "Fuck Darkfail" and we'll get something reminiscent of the Age of Conan forums post launch. A few people will still hold on dear though until the said company goes bankrupt and shuts down the servers.
Then every player who ever played Darkfall will proclaim how great the game was and how said company shouldn't have shut it down and will go on to whine about some other MMORPG.

You know...I could give a rats ass about how this launch is pulled off. Aventurine is a small company and they are doing what they can. Kudos for that. Kudos to the people who enjoy this type of game. Really. I hope it smoothes out soon and you can enjoy the game. I really...really do.
I just wish people (and by this I mean Aventurine AND the fanatical followers) would stop posting ridiculous claims which are just not true. Admit already that Aventurine is in way over their heads. Admit that they are doing their best, but it is not by any means a professional launch. Admit that there were mistakes made and bad public relations at play. Admit that things haven't played out the way they were originally supposed to and STOP coming up with excuse after excuse after excuse!
Aventurine screwed up in some departments. Some more, some less. That doesn't diminish what they DID accomplish (by all accounts of Beta that I have read so far). That doesn't make the game less of what it is for those who enjoy it.
But all these ridiculous excuses are just...silly.

Yeah I don't know about you but I'd much rather they work to fix the game than sit on the forums "communicating" what needs to be fixed. And no, I'm not really tired of these things. I'm a sysadmin by trade so I know what it takes for large-scale deployments. Most of all I know they never go perfectly and there's always going to be unforeseen problems and unhappy users like yourself who expect perfection the first time around.
The ONLY reason I could be even slightly understandable of someone being irate right now is if they had already been charged the full amount and were not given service. But even then as long as you're getting your full month worth of gametime you're getting what you paid for. Aventurine has made no promises or guarantees about when the game would be launched, they just need to complete the launch within a reasonable amount of time.

customer service should. It pertains to everything for the game. If the game launches poorly, lags, is missing features, etc. thats all customer service issues. along with last minute updates to the community, if im paying monthly all that should be top knotch. Im not saying DF has all those issues but it does have some. I love the idea of DF but i just dont see how this company has given any reason to pre-order it with everything thats happened thus far

And, thus, is the life of a fanboy.
And the award for outstanding performance in generalization goes to...
I just work with what I've got Santa. The sad thing is in this case it's pretty much true, I've already seen it happen with numerous MMORPG launches, and I don't think Darkfall will be any different.
Anyways I knew someone in the beta and he said to stay clear of this game for at least 4 months.
hrm how many of you guys has bought something from CodeMasters? The big publisher for Europe. Do any of you know their history with mmo's? Talk about failures.
What about Atari? yea that little name in the mmo world. They published D&D online for Turbine, but before that they made a mmo. They bought one that was going nowhere and finished it. It was Called Horizons of Istaria. It had 100 times worse issues than Darkfall.
The people shooting off at the mouth about this stuff are the blind ones, who do not look at the overall industry and how it goes. Everything is just in the here and now for many of you and maybe that is due to age, maybe your just caught up in the hype of things. But If you look at the Big Fancy Companies you will easily find just as much tarnish. It is just hidden underneath millions of dollars people have forked over to them over the years.

if i spent my money on the game i expect good communication. not waiting till late in the day to annouce why i cant play the game i already bought. thankfully i havent bought this game and it will take a lot for me to change that consideration due to how AV has handled it so far. So im not unhappy cause i did not purchase this game
im not gonna call you fanbois cause im not trying to be mean, but after all the questionable history of this game and the disaster that is todays "launch" how can you honestly justify giving money to this company. good mmos focus on communicating with the customers which AV makes gautes funcom look great. Having played every MMO out there since day jot.... And having played the Beta.
There is you're answer the game is fantastic and has more in game features than people give it credit.
This game is a must for any serious MMO player. Simple as.
Aventurine is what makes the game ... not sure you would understand that.
Oh and call people what you like you coward oh i forgot you can't it's MMORPG.com ...
(Remember this is a limited release not the finished product which is why some of us love it, the real release starts with boxed versions and USA servers)

They will care if the game is good and if it is getting updated.
im not playing it maybe later. you say no one will remember the launch i still remember quite a few games that had bad launches..only a couple i remember that actually bounced back.
yea its the big companies who dont really care much else than making money so they release before its ready and tell a few fibs here and there!
OP is about communication!
Ofc i know they want to make money from it, but they are not hyping the game up themselves are they. They (or so we all hope) are focusing on launching a game to the best possible standard they can...for us players to enjoy!
Heaven doesn't
want me and
Hell is afraid
i'll take over!
Played it. Game is great, therefore I give money.
Like someone else said, it is a tiny company going through their first launch with HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS of people trying to get in. They do not deserve slack on the game and gameplay because they have talked it up, but they do(imo) deserve some slack on launch.

You mean games that sucked on launch, not had a bad release(delayed, staggered ect..)
Two different things. And since I have played DF, I am not worried about the former.
1) Why would you even mention "fanbois" in the post to begin with? If someone likes the game, fine.
2) I played beta, and I like the game alot. It's worth double the cost in my opinion, because I don't like the other MMOs (except for some old ones).
3) UO was my favorite MMO, and played it for years, but it had even more problems at release than Darkfalls beta.
4) Your wall of text is annoying.
i mentioned "fanbois" cause i was trying to make it clear im not trolling. you gave an exceptable reason for why you pay for this game. no need for the "wall of text" comment, you just come off immature
So you're expecting a perfect launch from a 30 man company with extremely limited resources producing one of the most highly anticipated games in a decade... despite the obvious past "failures" of multi-million dollar, heavily staffed, corporate-owned, power-house game development companies... I say my friend, I've never met anyone with more realistic expectations before...
yes i do or at least better communication and some more honesty but come on mmos have been out for a long fricken time arent you tired of the same stuff

And, thus, is the life of a fanboy.

Which Final Fantasy Character Are You?
Final Fantasy 7

I rather think that's the point. People are interested in Darkfall because it promises something different on the things that actually matter. Gameplay, skill development, for some it's PvP. Compared to those sorts of things, customer service just doesn't rank very highly.
customer service should.

Sorcery must persist, the future is the Citadel
So if other companies do it it must be fine, right?
thus the reason for my thread. well put
