400 mb patch on release day? Wow.

HerculesSASHerculesSAS Member Posts: 1,272

I've done software development before, and I manage software development now for some projects... I've never seen such a drastic change the day of a release. Interesting stuff.

But I suppose it's par for the course... in beta they were actually *adding features*, like hotkeys and such, so in reality they have no idea what a software development life cycle really means, do they?

I'll just wait for the fanboys to flame me and say they are "professional" programmers. Anybody who is in IT or software development would laugh at adding features in a beta software. Beta is almost by definition "feature complete", and it is usually multi staged first for feature testing, compatibility testing, and finally -- stress testing. I don't think we've seen any of those stages either.

Ah well. I'm entertertained :)

During the WAR beta, they were adding races - I think that speaks for itself about different peoples credability.

Looking for absolutely anything aren't you? Well, can't say the vaporz went down quietly at least.

The game was done via digital download, if the BOXED version of the game required a 400 mb patch, that'd be something different. But no, switching from BETA client, to RELEASE client required a patch. Since when is that a bad thing?

I have played quite a few Big name releases that needed major patches upon release. alot of them single player games.

I dunno, doing software development for a while and then management of said products, I'd be fired for doing something like that.

    That's all I'm saying.

Really? You get fired when you fix things at work? So it's like the opposite of what a sane person would expect... Fix things = fired, leave things broken and pretend it never happened = promoted

of course, but an online-game is quite different.

because everybody NEED internet to play this game, it is not as critical as in... let's say an application which you can run offline too.. not every customer from those have internet, so it would be really bad to release a piece of software which only run, when you download a bugfix.

    EDIT: bad typos are bad

sorry for bad english, isn't my native language ;)

Our team releases web applications that deal with financial data... I know the scope isn't as big as this game though.

I guess the next hours and days will tell the true tale.

And rightfully. But some ppl still think that some hippies in garage full of pizza boxes is a viable team to develop a next gen MMO and accordingly find nothing strange when basic features get only finally implemented in the last stages of beta. And they also think that miracle patches really exist and will fix everything bad or broken without any sideeffects.

The fanbois here sound exactly like the lot on funcom forums. Let's see what happens when the servers are actually up for some time, their characters don't get wiped every so often and they have to face the longevity of the gameplay. Tortage was also nice to look at and mostly worked, remember?

You know what these guys are?The same 5 guys plus one greek they have always been.I laugh when people keep mentioning Aventurine, this is Razorwax's game,i doubt AV has put more than 5% into this game, this is the exact game that was built years ago.

What these guys have been doing is trying to iron out bugs and get financial backing. They have not been successful in either area, this is why it has taken so many years.DO not expect any improvement on the game, outside of fixing bugs, their team is not 30,it is 6,probably a secretary/accountant/lawyer as well, but they are not team members.

Unless they can start raking in tons of dough, they will never hire any more people to help with coding, and we still have to wonder ,how they will implement GM's?how about support staff? It will be a LONG road for these guys to turn profits and even longer before they can afford to upgrade the game with new content.

If players are happy with the present game, then great ..ENJOY have fun,if they are playing on the whim that it will only get better[outside of bugs],>>>Blindfolded people.

IMO it will be over a year before anything will be added to the game, that is a long time ,i wonder if the game has that much entertainment value to last a year+,for me the answer is no,but i guess for some they may just enjoy the little it has to offer. My decision was easy ,as I am not into PVP,seeing a dead world outside of PVP was an easy task to say no.

The sad thing is that your attempt at sarcasm completely fails, not on the basis of effort but because the backwards logic you presented is (unfortunately) exactly how it works in IT.

This game is actually REALLY screwed up.  They brought back several bugs that were fixed in beta.  Shit when you equip a shield it turns your hair color....

Their is an ENTIRE starting area that you can't start in and if you try to run through it you will crash repeatedly....

The mob rubber banding is so horrible it is pretty hard to kill anything.  And thats with a ping of 100-150, 200 max.....

it is really pathetic actually and I don't think a single person got their money worth.  I really can't see them standing up and fixing all this shit, I think we have a bum game.....  Hope I'm wrong though.....

Seriously? Noone caught how stupid that was? The races weren't added, they were indeed implemented before beta started. But testers didn't have access to them all at first. Warhammer tested very specific areas of the game one at a time. One week the testers would all be playing elves, the next they'd all play humans.
