Games like these take a heavy initial commitment and then taper off. But your fucked if you don't get in quick. Not having a city screws you.

Yes it will be the most epic game for the small niche player base that it retains.

I won't debate the organized guilds in Darkfall can be successful but ....
1) Some of the guilds you listed were on Cairn harvesting MOBs that had the AI disabled, they did it for hours. We fought them as much as we could until most folks gave us due to the lame sync problems.
2) The guilds you admire are great but just a Note, not all of them have even gotten cities yet. And at least one of them without a city was pissed to hear about the lame exploiting that was going on since they had been trying to earn gold the old fashioned way of actually killing MOBs that fought back.
3) You need to check up on the definition of Exploit :
Exploit: to make use of unfairly for one's own advantage.
Bugging out Black Nights and killing them with range attacks or harvesting MOBs on Cairn that have not function AI, etc.. Are all forms of Exploiting and have nothing to do with a guild's organization or skill.
Guilds with skill don't need to exploit to win and the ones that rely on Exploits like a crutch are usually the first to claim victory and quit the game once they lose their advantage.

In all honesty Curtis, it does not sound by the tone of your post that this game is for you. You seem like a nice casual player who dont look up exploits before you go on live servers after release.
I suppose keys are drops from high level mobs or chests in dangerous areas. But by God man! Do you know what you are getting into? Even if your brave adventurer after succesful glorious questing in the wilderness manages to find a shiny sword and perhaps even a key...
You know what? Other players will rip the clothes and eventual keys from you dead naked cold body and yell "nooooooob!111" at you after. Then teabag you and wait for you to respawn.
Lol this is sad, aventurine doesn't really give a fuck guys, this isn't blizzard or some big named company, aventurine obviously doesn't want many people playing this game if you couldn't tell.. they just want a small family player base ( lulz ) because this game wasn't ment to handle any more than probably 4 thousand, they are complete dicks and semi assholes ever since existance of this game because they don't want millions of people playing this because they CANT and they game wasnt ment to handle it. so these "guilds" will get away with it all it doesn't matter they don't care...
Hopefully a big boy company will take up the idea and make a game for everyone, and not a small little club.
That is too what I am afraid of.
With Mortal Online around the corner with a closed beta coming probably in less than a year, featuring 10 different hit boxes per avatar and Unreal 3 engine, also PvE and full loot open PvP a seamless world similar to Darkfall, more funding and resources at their dispossal, also having a chance to look at which pitfalls Darkfall went in order to avoid them, my estimation is that if EXTREME CAUTION is not exercised by the Darkfall devs the game will go to the dogs.
-Bad reputation already building up,
-Newer players sceptical about joining,
-The former harcore quilds from other PvP games already in game ready and organized and rulling the land, which pretty much act like zerg bots, macro bots and zombified matt gatherers, which IMO is not a way to play a game because it is not my God damn second employment, it supposed to be a game, have fun and let others have fun damnit and screw hard competitiveness your life does not depend on it.
-Transforming in a very hard world who only the very few survive IS NOT GOING TO DRAW PLAYERS from other games to try out full loot PvP.
The signs are already there that this is happening.
If for instance was for me organizing another competitive guild striving in a world with hard competition, with few resources already and not many opportunity spots remaining, many of the rulling parties wouldn't have the light of day because I come from much more demanding MMOG gaming environments, which guess what. Failed and still are trying to recover giving their player mechanics and worlds a redesign, BUT the average MMO player looking just for having fun is going to say "screw this" and will move to another game or wait for Mortal Online that is lurking around the corner.
Anyone would argue that Darkfall is for a niche market and it doesn;t matter if they don;t receive new players by the droves

It is simple as that. New game mechanics and balancing should be in order for Darkfall, the harcodre PvP concept is the most difficult of tasks management and balancing wise in an MMOG environment.

That almost happened at EVE online launch but EVE online survived because the gaming environment was very new and diverse, the world spots were huge and great effort went for constantly redesigning the mechanics of the game even from pre Alpha stages. They had invitation semi-open beta for some months and a huge stress test open beta for a whole month and still they had to strugle and almost not make it, but the concept was new and fresh and brought many people to the game.
Darkfall on the other hand is just another fantasy game. God knows we have tons of those around. I really do not see them having much chances unless they pull their $hit together and really fast!
Sounds like all the guilds I'd rather not play with got in early and grabbed a solid advantage. Good news theyll stay here when the next server opens, so most new players will head over there and let this 'leet" hardcore group enjoy playing with themselves. (subliminal slip)

Taking advantage of an opportunity that wasn't meant to be given is exploiting. There is absolutely no way to justify that. In saying that.... I don't really care. I don't like the idea that it happened, but whatever. MMOs are a haven for exploitation, so in regard to killing bugged mobs... Fine. Do what you will. Just don't try to justify it.
So several clans have effectively reached the end game in less then 3 days with the servers down over 50% of the time? Yep this game will have a long run before it falls flat on it's face.
So you make up a bogus question and answer it yourself with a BS answer? That's like saying people who hit level two in WoW are ready for 40 man instances.
You obviously don't know anything about this game. No one reached anything close to end game. They did what gets done in the first day of this game. In beta, my guild was able to claim a city on the first day.
Claiming a city isn't end game, its just the early beggining of this game.
Undoubtedly everything gained can also be lost and that lends good balance to the game mechanics but most of the people especially the people that want in and are not yet in are in the dark about all this
Maybe, just maybe Darkfall devs believe is a non issue that disciplined guilds had the upper hand from the start, after all they know better about the game mechanics than anyone else, including the most experienced player during beta. There is achance that things could be balanced out in aheart beat through player effort alone.
I just hope this is the case and this is the reasons the devs are not making anything public yet to address these fears and concerns.
Else = Darkfail.
edit:
If my assumptions are right, there is not an edngame in Darkfall. Game mechanics do not allow an endgame, however there is still the concern about skill maxing of old players against new ones with lesser play time.
EVE addressed this issue very succesfully but on the other hand EVE had skill training and constant redesign of time processes, attitudes and ability effectiveness. Darkfall cannot do this, at least in the style and method EVE online devs could, unless there is some hidden secret mechanism devs are aware off, ior that there is plenty of room for such control methods to be introduced in the world of Darkfall later on in order for balance to be effctive.

Seriously, get a sense of humour.
And maybe its not surprising this is "a great game" for you.
I guess you have been playing Matrix->HG->AoC before DF!
Never really got why people exploit a game when they first start, that for me is usually the best part... later down the road when everything becomes repetitive, your doing the same thing over and over, then I could see the point in it, you have done everything there is to do already, but day 1... good way to ruin the game for yourselves and the whole server.

To understand why these people cheat, you have to look at it from their prospective to somewhat understand it. These people are the basement dwellers who have no social interactions. They get their dominat feeling by cheating hacking and exploiting there way to the top in an MMO which is basically their life so they feel empowered. If it keeps them from going pyscho out in the real world, good.

I really enjoy starting a new game, too. To be honest, however (no pun intended), I don't like cheating and I never see a point in it. If a game becomes repetitive and boring, I quit. I also dislike watching people cheat or exploit in MMOs, especially in PvP games where a level playing field matters to me. Too much of that and I'm likely to quit even if the game is a good one. I played Shadowbane with most of those guilds listed and quite a few of them exploited like mad. SB.exe and my account becoming unplayable sent me packing before they did, though.
All those clans were in beta so they kinda knew how it works.
All they had to do is group up and go to their favorite camp spot after getting some basic weapons and gear. Then keep farming that monster for gold or items to build up your city. ANd considering those clans got a nice amount of members it shouldnt be that hard to aquire the gold requirement.
I bet half of the clan macroed their resources and maybe also abused abit broken npc AI. But they would still have had a city on first day most likely.
It isnt that tough for a big guild to grind out 10k gold, things arnt guna be handed to you. small guilds arnt guna be able to compete with big guilds, people who put in the tiem and effort are going to be rewarded and the people who dont arnt, thats how it is and how it should be.
How can anyone consider this game hardcore? The only thing anyone has done so far is kill mobs that don't fight back.
Hardcore to alot of these guys is finding the best cheats, hacks, and exploits....When it comes down to actual one on one fighting they are the first to run away unless they know they have a huge advantage and cant lose......Put their big bad guild behind them though and all of a sudden they are the baddest people in the game.......The OP knows every one of those guilds probably cheated to get their city and exploited the heck out of what they could......The sad thing is that PVP is never about fair play and fair fights......

Epic ? Honestly, where's the epic part?
And no, the player being fucked for not getting in quick isn't the real issue.
The GAME is fucked when there's nothing for these massive guilds to lord over.
And yes, everyone who didn't get their "shit" up quick will be pissed.
For a little while, and then they'll be gone. Then your uber epic guild can run around killing any new players/guilds and chasing them from the game. And then each other when the server(s) is/are deserted.

Oh really. I'm not going to say which one, but one of those guilds was sending out a macro program to new members in beta so they could be ready for launch to do just what they did. And another of those guilds spent the last 24hrs camping a high level mob that was bugging out every 8 seconds after it spawned. Two of those guilds (that I know of) have totally exploited to get their cities. Yes, they were all in beta, and that is exactly why they had hacks/exploits ready and waiting for launch.
What til the PVP really starts and they start using the speed hacks they have ready.
Those guilds aren't building cities because of the 'experience' they had in beta, they are building cities because they had their hacks/exploits all ready because they were in beta.
Ok, personally I hate exploits/cheats/bugs that are exploited/abused or general bad immoral play.
but what you list there are serious accusations (and no i am not ingame but will be unguilded until a new seerver is created) and if your accusations have any foundations then petition via support with full details and if you get no response petition again....
dont just make a forum finger point... let the devs decide... and let me stres I hate exploits but you cant just shout xyz did abc unless your prepared to act on it... feel free to update us as to your support ticket.

Else = Darkfail.
Just out of curiosity since I was not in beta but
What are the keys for?
How do you get them?
This is something I would very much like to know because I might want to find some.
Thank you,
Curtis
Then they will do it again.
How can you tell what kind of person someone is by one post? You are Dead Wrong!! This game is for me, in fact this is the best MMO I have ever played and I have been playing MMO's for years.
You sir need to shut the hell up and stop saying that this game is not for me or anyone else!! This is a great game and I have been having the time of my life for the few hours I have played.
If you can not answer a simple question then don't post at all!!
Also in case you were wondering, yes I did find your post insulting.
Curtis
Wow a touchy one... hehe... I can imagine how you will rage all over when things happen to you in DF
Seriously, get a sense of humour.
And maybe its not surprising this is "a great game" for you.
I guess you have been playing Matrix->HG->AoC before DF!
Stop being so angry its not healthy

That sounds like so much fun!! Where do I sign up!!
I was typing the exact same thing.
16 hours of attacking the same non-moving mobs? Hardcore innovative gameplay at it's best.
You deal with the hand you have been dealt and make the best of it.
We know this game is gonna be epic as anything every made. I was a closed Darkfall beta tester. Been playing for about 4 months. Everyone who didn't get their shit up quick is gonna be super pissed when we all have our crafters built up and are running around in crafted scale armor curb stomping every little pissant guild that comes along.
And my guild isn't much compared to the hardcoreness of LOD. Those guys didn't sleep for I believe days.
Games like these take a heavy initial commitment and then taper off. But your fucked if you don't get in quick. Not having a city screws you.
Yes, truly epic and hardcore
Holy crap, so that's the endgame?!? Wow.
