Even if I did post a screenshot (which I don't have because the servers are down for a patch) you would not beleive it. you'd just say it was photoshopped. so no point in trying to convince those that have already made up there mind.

    Right...let's see:

    1) I did not realize that it had anything to do with -when- you pre-ordered. According to Aventurine, there were billing problems with some and not with others. Logically speaking, that means number 1 could have been left out while number 15000 was able to get in.

    2) What in my message convinced you that I would not believe you if you posted a screenshot, mh? Because I insist on wanting to know the truth instead of trusting angry fanboys who refuse to admit that their idol company screwed up the launch?

    Sorry, I'll stick to proof.

hey I have not ever told you my opinion of the game. don't assume I am a blind fanboy. I see what is wrong with the game (which is alot) but I am enjoying it so far, I will continue to play it and pay for it until such a time that it is no longer fun. They royaly screwed up the launch. which sucks.. but oh well lets get on with life.

What I told you was simply what I knew to be true at the time. I was not trying to mislead you.

I didn't think you were trying to mislead me. Apologies for the fanboy comment, it was the heat of teh Forums getting to me. ^^

And when you (or anyone else for that matter) get a chance to make a screenshot of the Users/Accounts/Characters Online/Created, it would be very nice of people to share it.

I did not realize the servers were down. But it's not like I'm in any rush here. ^^

Give Aventurine some fixes and we will have something incredible here.

    So....some clarification please.

    5500 active accounts.

Or 5500 concurrent players? because the people claiming the first seem to have a lot more to back up their statement.

And in that case, it's pretty sad that they can't handle even that amount of -accounts- which would probably lead to about...2500 concurrent players. So...clarification please?

5500 people online at one time. you can check it in game.

So you claim the 5500 are a number of online people displayed in game. Other (more) posters said it's the number of chars created. A screenshot would be very helpful.

I was preorder register id # 15000, or around there.

Since a lot of pre-order people had problems actually getting in in any way, I find this lacks in substance as evidence.

So...screenshots? You're all in game now, aren't you? It shouldn#t be too hard to quell these questions.

Still if I am number 15000, I was also one of the last people to get in before it went down, as the store literaly went offline minutes after I registered, there must be more in.

Usually, companies assign their customers receipt numbers that are generated in their database based on some type of number set... Usually it will be "Transaction #**********" and everytime I've preordered something/bought something online I've never seen Transaction #1 or 2 or even 110.  These transaction numbers are usually used for storing customer information, and you could even use that transaction # to cancel, fix any account problems, or even to dispute the charge with your cc company/bank.  Again, I HIGHLY doubt that number was the "order" you were in the preorder.

Also, it would be a pretty useless update for Aventurine to suddenly change that display from Characters Created to # of people currently online.. There would be no precedent for them to change it, unless it was causing a bug of some kind.. and even then, they would of probably just removed it, as keeping the # of players online at that time would suck more resources then just a static number of characters created.

Stop making stuff up. Check that "5,500" list again and notice there are offline people there. FFS you were in beta with me, that list showed over 15,000 people - do you think they were all online? Including 5 of my alts? FOR THE THIRD TIME - that list and number is the total amount of characters created, not people online.

No, I can't provide a screenshot (not that it would help anything) because despite being in beta and trying to pre-order as soon as Tasos posted the link (pre-order register id #466) I didn't manage to buy the game. Like 3/4 of my guild, and they all have ID numbers under 15k. Yes, lots of people managed to register but weren't billed or just didn't have high enough refresh skills to get to the order confirmation page before it all exploded. In other words, the register numbers have nothing to do with successful pre-orders.

A few minutes before the servers came down there was about 15 Alfar fighting 10 or 15 Elves right outside an Elvin starter town all casting spells and there was not much lag and zero sync issues.

It's running really smooth for day 3.

  • hybridfuryhybridfury Member Posts: 138

Why is there only 1 server?  No really, shouldn't they have like 5-10 more atleast?

Currently Playing: Toying around with AoC and bored with Darkfall

Thinking of Playing: Fallen Earth or Darkfall after this months update.

Have Played: EQ1, EQ2, WoW, WAR, Vanguard, EvE, Requiem, PW, Lotro, Lineage2, AoC, SWG...

25-30 people fighting at the same time and it didn't lag? amazing statistics to brag about!

My apologies if this is sarcasm and i missed it.

    thank you for clarifying....

so its 5500 characters created BUT NOT online concurrent.

    Umm.... No.

I'm not sure if you said it or not... but remember that 300k+ number signed up for Beta that was thrown around by many of the fans for justifying why DarkFall would be HUGE!

    Umm... yeah.

The 5,500 number insn't even playing concurrently.

"more than other games have in one server"...  heh... sure whatever you say.

DarkFall may still be able to get things together to grow the subscriber base some... but to try and SPIN it that having 5500 players for an MMO Release is successful...

Perhaps you could point out just one single MMO that had less?

So far DarkFall wins the award for least amount of players for a P2P MMO Release.

If someone knows of one that Released to a smaller player-base... I'd love to see it.

the general rule of thumb is actual subs == 5x peak online accounts.

so: 5 x 5500 == ~27500 active accounts. sounds about right. it's certain they won't have tried to go anywhere near the limits of their concurrent player peak capability... yet.

i'm not convinced... there is definitely a lot more people in the game than any time during beta. let's suspend the speculation until one of us can logon and check it out. and take a screenshot.

they didnt give out that many accounts <Mod Edit>. That 5500 wasnt concurrent anyway so you're still wrong.

Seeing as their "server capability" is only around 10K players, to sell 27000 accounts would be shooting themselves in the foot.  Sure, not everyone is logged in at the same time, but there are times when 50-60% of their playerbase would overlap.. and that would go well over their server capacity.. which Aventurine admitted they did not reach yet in # of accounts. I would say the 5000-6000 account estimation sounds about right at this time.. The devs said they would do a "staged" release, where they would let a limited amount of preorders in, then let more people in to slowly reach their server capacity, which was estimated around 10k.  Saying there are over 10k accounts goes against everything Aventurine said they would be doing.

Also I believe it was said that during beta, the most online at one time was around 3k.. It would be server suicide to let over triple that amount in at release with untested netcode (as in the never tested 9-10k players at one time, making sure their net code held up).

Hey, according to mmorpg.com, 500 concurrent users is enough to qualify a game as mmorpg. So DF has 11 times as much as that. Sounds pretty good to me.

How is that for a safe? Pretty good huh? Just practising incase AV offers me a damage control job.

Seriously though, this is very bad for all the people that wanted to play. And this is also very bad for AV. Even with double this number they can't possibly sustain the game. Wich in turn is bad news for the few who are actually having fun in the game.

They need to open more servers and allow more accounts to be created fast, or else this submarine will never resurface.

    Are you a retard ?

5500 online because rest is at work, sleeping, shagging a wife or living. Do you know that people around you actually have a private life ?

Point me a game on which MAX amount of players per server is actual number of players online.

ok ppl have been feeding the troll for 4 pages straight, chill out, he was just trolling

oh ? This place is seriously worse then Forumfall

There are 6096 characters in the game right now.

  • Syyth007Syyth007 Member Posts: 250

One problem they will face is the fact that the server they'll need (one that can handle 10k players) is quite a bit more expensive then the more common 2-3k player server most mmo companies use.. I have a feeling when Aventurine opens the shop again, it will be for "backorders" only (as in they charge you for the game, but you can't really subscribe/play quite yet) so they will receive more funds to open up a new server..  Hell, there is the "backorder" button on the account management page that says more info will be released there when the shop opens.  When they "open the shop" again, I have a feeling that most will not be able to just buy and hop into the game right away, but that most will have to pay, but wait until Aventurine eventually opens a new server for these players. I could be wrong, and I hope so, because I have a feeling many will jump at the chance to "backorder" the game, not realizing they still might not playing the game for a while.

i'm not wrong unless you can produce a screenshot that proves it. ithink they're all concurrent, online players.

remember: this server is a cluster of 80x quad-core (320 CPUs)...

Although I have no definitive proof I don't believe this to be true for a couple reasons.

Someone stated back a few pages that there were ~500-1000 (i think those were the numbers?) online at one time and they were being "generous" the problem with that is there are people EVERYWHERE. There are easily more than 300 people within the 3 main Mirdain cities alone. That isnt counting those who branched outward and are in thier guild cities such as mine which has ~100 people in it at any given time.

The other problem I see with this is that when you click the "Add Friend" button to see this number, it fluctuates nearly every few minutes. As in sometimes it will say 5000 right after a server restart, and sometimes it will be well above 6500 when the server has been up for a while.

This of course does not mean I am correct in thinking that these are only the "online" accounts, however I can assure you there are much more than 1000 online at any given time. The world is much larger than a lot of you were lead to believe.

I would also like to mention that the server  can fit much more than 10,000 as far as landmass is concerned. Id say more around 20,000 to 30,000. That is assuming they can make their servers handle that many players of course.

    See you in-game.

The 5500 is the total number of characters. They are ramping up slow due to account issues. Oh, and average CCU is normally 10% (or less) of the total accounts, with a peak at 20% (or less).

We need to get away from this 5500 number, because there are more characters than that. Lets not be misleading. When the servers come back up I will provide a screenshot if needed to show there are much more than that now.
