We need to get away from this 5500 number, because there are more characters than that. Lets not be misleading. When the servers come back up I will provide a screenshot if needed to show there are much more than that now.

yeah but what does it mean, concurrent or total characters....big difference which many people seem to avoid.

Scroll up a few posts. I explained why I personally think it is total users online.

Give Aventurine some fixes and we will have something incredible here.

    So....some clarification please.

    5500 active accounts.

Or 5500 concurrent players? because the people claiming the first seem to have a lot more to back up their statement.

And in that case, it's pretty sad that they can't handle even that amount of -accounts- which would probably lead to about...2500 concurrent players. So...clarification please?

5500 people online at one time. you can check it in game.

So you claim the 5500 are a number of online people displayed in game. Other (more) posters said it's the number of chars created. A screenshot would be very helpful.

I was preorder register id # 15000, or around there.

Since a lot of pre-order people had problems actually getting in in any way, I find this lacks in substance as evidence.

So...screenshots? You're all in game now, aren't you? It shouldn#t be too hard to quell these questions.

Still if I am number 15000, I was also one of the last people to get in before it went down, as the store literaly went offline minutes after I registered, there must be more in.

Even if I did post a screenshot (which I don't have because the servers are down for a patch) you would not beleive it. you'd just say it was photoshopped. so no point in trying to convince those that have already made up there mind.

Usually, companies assign their customers receipt numbers that are generated in their database based on some type of number set... Usually it will be "Transaction #**********" and everytime I've preordered something/bought something online I've never seen Transaction #1 or 2 or even 110.  These transaction numbers are usually used for storing customer information, and you could even use that transaction # to cancel, fix any account problems, or even to dispute the charge with your cc company/bank.  Again, I HIGHLY doubt that number was the "order" you were in the preorder.

Also, it would be a pretty useless update for Aventurine to suddenly change that display from Characters Created to # of people currently online.. There would be no precedent for them to change it, unless it was causing a bug of some kind.. and even then, they would of probably just removed it, as keeping the # of players online at that time would suck more resources then just a static number of characters created.

You touched on one point here Syyth007, that seems to have been overlooked this entire thread.

One of the first things I learned years ago, when setting up a database to track customers, is that you never start with  a #1. I would be a little more than suprised if the customer database for Darkfall started with #1.

From the looks of things, they started at #10,000.

Someone else may feel like elaborating as to the why of this practice, I just know that it is a very common practice.

    Just saying, carry on.

...and I wager there are 50,000 others waiting to get in.

Ive a feeling that the problems from next round of subs will be as bad as the first

The amazing thing about this thread is that no one has bothered with a SS. Three days of bickering back and forth... seriously... post the SS and go from there... right now this discussion is just idiotic.

I'll post one when it launches in NA.

Then again, why would they launch a NA server?  Then the EU-1 server would be empty.

There is a link to a picture showing the journal page that we are discussing. I just took that a few min ago, and would like to mention that i HAVE seen that number be around 6500... not sure what that means exactly but i figured it was worth noting.

i'm not convinced... there is definitely a lot more people in the game than any time during beta. let's suspend the speculation until one of us can logon and check it out. and take a screenshot.

Beta had only 2,200 participants, with probably only 1,500 ever being on at one time..!

Battfield 2142 had 180k people play last weekend and is a vastly more played Online FPS game..!Combat in that game is superior and much more enjoyable... and did I mention it doesn't cost $15/month ?

I realized how terrible that Screen Shot was so here are 2 more to make up for it.

TY for the SS although that really does not clear up anything. Is there any way to check the status of any players listed?

The slight progression seems to indicate this is a complete list of characters created not currently playing, however there is still no definitive proof either way.

Edit: Sharkeyes if it is possible... please take another screen an hour from now... if this is a true list of online players the number should increase or decrease by a reasonable ammount. If this is a complete list of characters then the list should not decrease and only increase an incrimental amount. TY again for you SS.

The only way to check if they are online or not is to do a manual search for a player. Unless they are on your friends list then it shows online or offline. Also the number is now at 6105... increases by 1 every 10 seconds or so.

ahh so this is only the number of characters made then...thank you kindly. This settled this thread finally...i appreciate it.

That does seem to be the case, the only problem I'm having with commiting to that is I swear I've seen the number over 6500 before... maybe I was just going crazy.

unless people are deleting or creating toons over and over....the number will fluctuate from time to time.

Now the number is down to 6090. Truely confusing... Hm.

  • javacjavac Member Posts: 1,175

it's concurrent players - you can't add a friend for a person not in the game. all the people i randomly selected from the list i was able to send a tell to, and the fluctuation of payer numbers up and down strongly suggests players logging on/off.

pretty sure it's concurrent numbers - there are tons more people than in the beta, and there were just under 2K players in beta.

  • RastonRaston Member Posts: 438

it could be people deleting characters for some reason, as I understand you are only allowed one on the server.

Probably the easiest way is to check for guild mates, find a handful of those off line and see if they are in the list.  Though, we do appreciate you getting the information.

  • miagisanmiagisan Member Posts: 5,156

concurrent = on at that moment in time. in case you are confused. What the poster is saying is that you can add people from this player list and it will show you if he is online or offline. so yes this is the number of characters in darkfall, not the number of characters playing at that very moment.

This is a good sign when you see how screwy some companies have been with this, take AoC for 1 example.
Furthermore, most of the other games besides eve are maxing out at about 5000, aren't they?

some are much lower....i think warhammer and AoC are....um lets see WoW probably around 5000, but if darkfall can handle 5.5k then thats pretty good lets bring that up to 10k though

If they do that then they would have to take out the few random spawns of orcs and whatever remaining npcs in towns they have to make room for more players.

  • I dont play darkfall, and i have no intention of it but im glad to see a success story.

Darkfall may not be my cup of tea but its good for the MMO market
