The "what game is better" question is an extremely subjective one, with no "right" answer. People can say DF is their favorite game at the moment, and I'm not going to say that person is wrong, or lying. Some people like simulator games, some people think they're incredibly boring and a waste of time. Some people love solving math problems, other people couldn't imagine that being fun. The only people who are wrong, are the ones that believe that their definition of fun is some how superior to others, when it's not. There are people who will say DF is the best, and others that will say it's not.. The funny part is when one side of the camp thinks they can prove their viewpoint is the only correct one, when it's not. Usually those threads turn into immature flame fests, with people trying to win an argument that is simply not winnable.
Aventurine has billed Darkfall as a MMORPG! Therefore 90% of this community and their fanbase was lured to this game because of Aventurine wild claims of a wounderous MMORPG.
Ok, but you have to use the OLD definition of MMORPG. Not the new one. That should have become obvious by doing any amount of research.
I'm afraid I agree with many posters that are claiming this review was not done with the right mental framework. Darkfall is a PvP game, yes, but it is primarily a MMO-role-playing-PvP-game. That means it is about social interactions, trading, networking, exploring, strategy, stealth, and intrigue as much as it is about combat. It's meant to be a big testing ground for social experimentation and fantasy world simulations.
I personally think Darkfall is tiering its release like it is to weed out those who don't understand the concept of the game. When the wrong people leave, the right people can help fill the existing server(s) faster. If they released the game with a lot of different servers, the populations might not be able to recover when all the wrong people leave.
I played Darkfall for a few hours in Beta (I got in just a few days before release). I liked it, and it did get to be quite interesting when a bunch of reds attacked the goblin camp at night. I will probably only purchase the game when it comes to the United States, and I hope by then the right people will have spread the word to other right people.

What is that? MMO-Eugenics? I think you've just taken game-elitism to a whole new level of stupid.
This is a sequence of characters intended to produce some profound mental effect, but it has failed.

no it makes alot fo sense. alot of people are goign to buy the game. Alot are not going to like it. If they blow all there money on 20 servers and then have to drop down to 5 in a couple months.... does that sound intelligent to you?
we have seen that time and time again and yet you children just don't seem to learn.

We can at least type grammatically correct sentences.
This is a sequence of characters intended to produce some profound mental effect, but it has failed.
For instance, did you know that once enough people kill the goblins at a camp the goblins will actually pack up and leave and you'll have to find a new camp? From the review I guess not. However, one thing all reviews have in common is that there aren't enough NPCs around and IMO this is a good thing. DF has the bare nessecities in terms of NPCs. Once people start crafting and trading the reasoning behind the lack of NPCs will become apparent.
The players will never fully substitute the NPCs in a MMO. The feeling of the world being alive is given by the NPCs and the lore and not by players.
About the monster packing up and leaving, this has been dropped (along with other state-of-the-art AI features).
Have they said its been scrapped? I haven't read that any where. In fact, I've seen peopel say the camps have moved (albeit not very far)
As far as friendly fire and by standards being hit accidently: this happens in every FFA game with a consequence system. UO did haev people tricked to going gray

never go full retard.
You should have listened.
And just to clear something up.
Ones choice of game doesnt make one an adult or a child.
Its still a game, whether its a pvp gamer touted as 'hardcore' , or a game that involves killing statuesque mobs who dont fight back like Darkfall.

I think you totaly missed the point of my post, or you are making an incredibly ironic joke. if its the later I applaud you.

I can confirm that mob camps move around.
They also seem to get harder and more intelligent the more you fight them. at least some of them do.
i really don't see how anyone who doesn't like FPS games COULD like Darkfall. GENERALLY speaking. therefore it seems kinda pointless to me for the OP to review this from a "RECOMMENDED/NOT RECOMMENDED" perspective. it seems alot like somebody who doesn't like metal reviewing a metal album, and then trying to give a judgement on whether metal fans should buy it or not.
i know there's bound to be a some non-FPS guys out there that may like it. just like there are certain metal albums or songs even non-metal fans like. but i'm pretty sure its a very small number if any of that number are reading this......, why do you like it?
Your rebuttal is moot..!
...snip...
But as a extended fantasy based FPS or larger version of something like Battlefield (clicky) it will be somewhat successful. But the OP brings up a valid point. If that type of combat is all you are looking for, why pay a monthly fee and just not move your clan to Battfield (2nd clicky) where most top notch players in the world ARE!
Winning there has real bragging rights, where as in a game like darkfall, chasing people and popping potions just gets old after a while if everyone is doing it... How is something like that going to sustain you and keep you comming back @ $15/month..?
what rebuttal?
"if you like FPS combat, why don't you go play an FPS" is not a valid point. i don't remember the OP saying that.
i would rebut that stupid idea.
why not play a typical FPS? because its not a MASSIVELEY MULTIPLAYER VIRTUAL WORLD. how easy that one little thing is for alot of.....a certain type of people... to overlook.
The OP is not telling anyone who LOVes the concept of darkfall not to buy it. Hes TELLING THE PEOPLE WHO DO NOT LIKE THE CONCEPT NOT TO BOTHER. How hard is that not to understand? The op tried the game it didnt apeal his style or what he was looking for so he reviewed it. In his review he did mention which type of players will be attracted to it.
Its like you FANs think this game is evey everyone and its the pefect game.
It may be pefect for you , but for many it may just be a standard game or a game that doesnt bring nothing interesting to that player. DarkFall is NOT for everyone. Once you understand that you will spend less time trying to defend it when someone mentions they didnt like it.
before you read my reply, first read YOUR post which i'm responding to. you seem to have a hard time following along with things, so maybe read it twice and let it soak in.
lol, what's this? you make a lengthy post after mine (a rather pointless one), but only after you see somebody else having a problem with my post do you come back and ALSO have a problem with it.
the fact the OP is, as you put it, "TELLING THE PEOPLE WHO DO NOT LIKE THE CONCEPT NOT TO BOTHER" is the reason i thought his post was superfluous. ummm, does anyone really need to SAY that simple statement with multiple pages? does anyone need to say it AT ALL?
talk about "hard to understand". lol
you completely missed all my points. how could you not understand the non-metal fan reviewing a metal album analogy? everyone knows metal is not for everyone. soooo naturally, you think i'm a darkfall fanboy (lol) and think i'm saying darkfall is for everyone? please. read everything in front of you and think for at least 2 seconds before you post. notice my sig too. you think that *i* think a game with an extremely frustrating level of grind is perfect? there's total fail written all over this sham of a post.
once you understand the basics of logic, you will spend less time trying to defend some guys post (which i wasn't even attacking) when someone mentions they didn't think it had much point.
metal and gothic rock are 2 different things just like MMORPG's and Action games are 2 different things.
oh yeah, and speaking to failure, i should have included this quote from you.
gothic metal is a well known and long-established genre. just like Darkfall is both an MMORPG AND an action game. how could you not understand that? is combining elements of different things such a hard concept to grasp? i guess so..... for you.
why are you getting so ridiculous over this? are you a fanboy of the OP or something? your being incredibly irrational over this. my comment seems to have really angered you somehow.

Very good review, pretty much spot on!
What is the best mmorpg, EVE, WoW, DF, DDO, or Vanguard, War Hammer?

Thanks OP! You saved me money and a whole lot of time by posting that review. Keep it up!
