All I get visions of when thinking of DF during the OP post, is the following :
Horrible sound effects which do not scale over distance. When your heard that battle it sounded like it was going on RIGHT next door. Horrible Benny HIll Style fighting which is no better than the leet teh pwnzr crap of WoW bunny hopping. As I have said before I am embarrassed that Tasos invoked the words "like" M&B to describe this game Stiff back pain induced animation with TWO.. yes ... TWO modes of attack. Hack .. Hack.. Hack.. Run... Run.. Hack fights.. but with no real blocking. I still want to see raised shields and decent thud of arrows in them. Death should be almost instant if you are hit from behind. Hint: Thats where your buddy is supposed to be !
I would like to go over your bullet points, because you're quite wrong on most of them.
Regarding your sound effects, they DO scale over distance. Maybe I didn't make it clear in my stories, but as we were approaching the guild city, we could hear the mana missles and clanking of sword on armor in the distance, and it certainly got louder the closer we got. Sound travels quite far in this game, and since it's surround, directional sound, you can almost always figure out where people are fighting based off of where the sound is coming from, and you can always figure out just how far off they are as well.
I also disagree with your statement on Benny hill style fighting. There is no bunny hopping in Darkfall, as it takes Stamina, and Stamina is THE MOST IMPORTANT status bar in your game, more so then health. Darkfall's combat is very interactive, especially in my experiences. In my first story for example, when my small group baited the guildmates out of their den, my guildmates started using their altitude and location to their advantage to hit players in the back with arrows and mana missles.
Now, with melee combat, I know a lot of people have been talking down about it, especially those who have only watched videos. Let me say it here and now, BLOCKING IS CRUCIAL when engaging in PvP, because not only does it greatly reduce the damage you're taking (which increases in defense as your parry skill increases), but if you time it just right, you use very litle stamina whereas people who "hold" block screw themselves over. It's not just "click click click spam click", because if you do that, you'll run out of stamina very quickly, and again, when you run out of stamina, you're basically dead. I, for example, only attack when I have a clear shot and am sure I will connect, I strafe and dodge their attacks, and sprint only when I have to get behind them.
Finally, your statement on the animations I can understand, but in reality, I really haven't had any issues with them except that they can get better.
How can you make that 30 minute walk?You walk so fucking slow in darkfall it probably would of taken 10 mins in a regular MMO, someone explain to me why you walk soooooo slow.
DF movement speed is the same more or less as every other MMO, stop crying...
besides, only noobs walk anywhere, most people perma-run using food + the mana-to-stamina spell.
@OP: yes, DF is *the* PVP MMO right now as far as i'm concerned. DAOC is sadly too old and unpopulated, WAR was a massive disappointment, AoC still sucks, and WOW is a PVE game.
DF is like what WAR *should* have been. there is already a strong GvG scene starting to appear in DF and it's only been out less than a week.
Dinged max level on Friday, been out killing players ever since and carrying loot back to bank. Game is truly epic and the old UO feel is there, even more because it's 3d and world is actually a big big place with tons and tons to explore.

Yes he did answer Die_Scream's question actually. You're just being a bit slow to catch on. He is simply pointing out that in other mmos you have to grind through lots of boring repetitive content so you can reach max level and gain access to the end game content which is usually where the fun really begins. In other words the devs force you to waste weeks or months of your life playing against the computer and "reward" you for your efforts by allowing you to take part in some epic PvP battles at the end......which is ultimately what online gaming should be about anyway.
Zodan is simply pointing out that there is no boring PvE grind to go through in Darkfall. The entire game is effectively the equivalent of the fun endgame content that you would get in a more mainstream mmo. You dont have to work to get there. Thats why he said "Ding max level" in his original post. He is taking the piss out of all of the other generic mmos by highlighting the fact that in Darkfall you can jump straight into the fun as soon as you create a character. No hoops to jump through, no quests that you MUST do, no exp bar fill, no stupid static story (which is the same every time) to push forward etc. Starting the game in Darkfall is the same as reaching max level in any other mmo.
Been there, done that... I guess some of us were looking for something a tad more interesting and in-depth when we started following this game several years ago. Aventurine has skimped so much on Darkfall, the concept of PvP combat sounds better than the actual gameplay. Then... you get stories like Kosmos(OP) who's seems like he's never played a video game before in his life and somehow all his experiences within darkfall are giving him a boner...! Combat=lame
If Darkfall is your first video game, OFFCOARSE everything will excite you! Dude, you need to get out more and experience more games..!
I beta tested for over 5 weeks, had the same experiences as you and I was like "Ugg, I did all this in UO and Battlefield... where is this new skill based combat they have been talking about?

I simply think that both side can be rediculous and its not necessary. althought truthfully I see much more from your side of the fight.
I try to be as neutral as possible, if that comes off as fanboyish, maybe you should look at yourself a little closer.
If I werent in the game, I would think you made this up, but DF really offers plenty of this fantastic gaming experiences.
1 slight remark, though. You were mainly hunting for Alfars right now. I can guarantee you that DwarfLand is not that easy to invade, we all have big hammers waiting for you !
