Nerds on a forum arguing about packets belittlng each other with "Has no clue about programming".

I think some people here either need to get laid, get back into an MMO to melt their brain or GTFO.

Speedhack = Faster than allowed by rules, in my book.
What you're talking about is a stamina hack.

Stamina hack may be an hell harder to fix, depending on their system. There's chance that the server actually has no information over the stamina of the players and it is managed completely client-side, which would make fixing a stamina hack almost impossible.

If you'd have watched the video before the mods deleted the link you would have seen that the person was running at an abnormaly fast rate as well as not having any stamina loss. Their hack program allows you to turn different hacks on and off as you are playing so it demonstrated the speed hack and the stam hack and then both at the same time. It was pretty clearly not just sped up, nor was it a sync issue as when he swung his sword as he was blazing around the sword swing speed was normal. I'm sure the video is still on Youtube.

We don't have any proof of what authorative peices of information are held where on either server / client.

But.. if DF uses too much client side then this is going to be a very very rough ride. Really it depends on how smart we think the developers are. At that point I think I'll stop saying anything.

    This is funny..

Here's the secret to being cool: Call someone talking about something you don't know anything about a Nerd, then tell them to get out and get laid.. and end it with some cool internet acronym, like GTFO.. This is it folks!!

If you are going to come here and make comments about stuff by insulting people..don't bother.  they voice legimit concnerns about things that are clearly above your intellect level.  Maybe you should "GTFO and read a book"..

Actually quite a few MMORPG's use TCP as connected protocol incorporates already lots of stuff needed. Reinventing the wheel and using homerolled packet validity checkers isn't usually worth the hassle. Only exception using UDP that I am aware of is Asherons Call which uses very wacky twoway implemetation. Some games might theoretically have both UDP and TCP connection to the server for transferring different data but haven't seen this so far.
The games usually using UDP are the shooters and such.

That's what we do for DarkSpace. UDP is generally used for 'non-critical' data such as movement updates as we can afford to drop a few packets on occasion, although this would not necessarily work for other titles. If the server detects any issues with the UDP stream, it falls back to using the TCP protocol for all updates.

If you have a decent firewall operating, you will be able to use it's monitors to see that there are a number of popular titles which use both UDP and TCP streams for active game play.

What is to cover up?  Anyone that isn't looking at the world through a welding helmet knows that this game is far from exploiter proof.

    No, its not.

    Stop saying that.

Its a speed hack advertisement with video footage of its use in game.

Anyone macroing within the tower protected areas will be warned once, and then kicked. Repeated violations could result in a ban. Spamming spells or any other disruptive macroing activity within the tower protected areas will be kicked without warning. Repeated violations could result in a ban.

Unattended macroing could get you kicked anywhere in the world depending on the situation. You engage in it at your own risk.

Any use of third party programs which modify or alter the game including cheats, hacks, mods, bots will instantly result in a permanent ban. There will be no appeal. No excuses such as “I was just testing” will be accepted. We will detect and enforce aggressively.

Kinda thought that dualstreaming would be logical step these days, but haven't really bothered looking that much under the hood what's happening, even if a simple netstat would tell it all :)

Only time any firewall voodoo was needed for me was AC which wouldn't connect without doing some bidirectional natting.

    Playing: AC2
Played: UO, DaoC, Horizons, Ryzom, WAR, LotRO, Eve, VG...

Decoding encrypted stuff takes time,if you dont know how it was encrypted. Its much easier to just reverse engineer the code itself. Well, at least thats how i see i would of done it, not that I could... or would...
But yeah, if the client side was hacked, there is no way (other then visually monitoring the hacker) to tell when someone is speedhacking. If server would process client packets, then there would be server side processin, which I dont think any MMO is capable of doing atm (imagine processing millions of packets by millions of clients, would probably need a HAL9000 type computer).

Actually the server HAS TO process client packets, because it has to notify the positions of all players to every player. So, you can write a 3 line check for speed hack that basically goes "IF PositionNow - PositionBefore > NineThousands Then KickThisMotherFucker".

Don't kid yourself.  Even if speedhacking could be this easily detected (which it is not), the extra overhead of just that single If-Then test would significantly impact the server while it's processing thousands of packets simultaneously during peak play hours.

Professional chump if you ask me. As others have suggested look it up. Actually there are more than one available and as you know as a 'pro' DF is is so easy to hack there will be a plethora of them.

    Ok two things:

A: This confirms the hack is real

B: Big name companies with real big name games still get hacked, with real support staffs... what does AV have? Some volunteer GM's?

    LOL

Diablo II was much better as everything was stored on the server side and hackers had a harder time.

Wait a few days and google search: "Darkfall trainer v1.0x" and see what pops!

Nothing was stored server-side for diablo II for months.  I remember getting the game, and then around november or december, I crashed while playing on battle.net with a friend.

I logged in to find I had a 'rollback' due to the crash.  I was missing gold, but had the gems I had given a friend.  After about 20-30 minutes of messing around, and realizing that battle.net characters were stored client side, we had an effective means of duping 'old school' where it was nothing more than making a backup of a character's save file, and replacing the diablo II one with it after stripping down items each time.

I took a break from D2 for probably a year after that, and when I came back it was like it is now with the saves not being held client side, ripe for the easy exploiting.

Isn't "store no data client side" the first commandment of MMO's?

I didn't catch the sarcasm in that initial post, but it became obvious in later ones.

Thing is, after some of the spin I've read from some fans of this game, it looked like a totally legit typical fan reply.

Have to love people living in denial.  Speed hacks are in the game now and will be in the future.  It is because the fools at Aventurine put so much critical code in the client that it is a hacker dream.  Give it some time and you will see far worse things than speed hacks.
