How about a MMOG that doesn't show the players any stats? The player gets a feeling of how good they are at things by doing them, just as you do in real life. The feedback system would have to be out of hand.... Has that been done before?
LOL that sort of sounded like that episode of South Park, where they were talking about how the Simpsons have done everything and there are no more original ideas. But the fact that the episode was about that made it original.
You are entitled to your opinion, but I am saying that any time someone has said that about anything, they've been evenually proven wrong. Saying it is a testament of human arrogance in achievement.
i am a current beta tester for world of warcraft, i have been testing the product since november of 2003 (yes that long- i WAS under an NDA-i have seen every race implemented from humans seen every level boost to players since they could be level 15 max.)
i am a beta tester for EQ2. - playing this one a bit more than wow since i know how that game is going and i want to get a feel for this game, my likes my dislikes, patrolling the beta messageboards finding out what other think and if they are similar to my issues, etc.
nothing i have said is not current knowledge of readily avail information posted by soe itself.
which is game better? that is up to YOU the Player.
i can deal with locked encounters, i can deal with other things, however ultimately it will come down to just ONE SIMPLE SENTENCE.
I will play(and pay for) the MMORPG that is the most FUN to ME.
An MMORPG can dish out thousands of innovations but are they significant? When innovations become significant then they become revolutionary. Can anyone cite an EQ2 innovation that can be considered revolutionary (please expound)? You said it yourself aeric67, WoW takes all the MMORPG stuff and makes it FUN. People are diverse so others wouldn't want so much fun but more of toiling or working on your character as in EQ1 and very well be EQ2. So I agree it all comes down to preference.
WoW's PvP wouldn't be an afterthought at all. It's not just dueling or massing a 200 player gankfest. The PvP actually has depth and significance to the whole game. You'll be doing castle sieging and be able to tear down your enemies' walls and ultimately kill their important NPCs destroying their whole city.
Classes in WoW can branch out to 3 sub-classes. For example the Warrior can choose from 3 different talent trees. He can also have talents from all 3 trees so that's considered another sub-class. Talents will be the one to diversify a class in WoW.
BTW good idea on having NPCs actually do stuff instead of just standing all day and all night blabbing random comments at you. When it comes to the NPCs sleeping it might not work coz game time is different from real time. Although they could have night time NPCs just to have variation.
at this time i cannot comment as to which is more fun since eq2 and wow both are in beta and aspects are changing almost weekly, til nda is lifted on eq2 and they go gold(both wow and eq2) what is fun this week might be changed next week and what is not fun this week might be changed to be fun next.
Yep, the wait and see stance. Lots of people need to take that stance on the forums, unless you've played both. Even then, things change in beta--even significant things.
I suppose folks want to figure out which one they will buy if they both release at the same time. Well, there's lots of time until that happens and open betas still have to occur. People who think they just KNOW which one is going to be better right now without having played both are unfortunate.

Actually, both are fun games. Just in different ways. WoW is a much quicker paced game, while EQ2 has more... depth, I guess you could call it.
The best way to describe it would be comparing Diablo 2, to Morrowind. Both are great games, and are fun as hell to play, but you really can't compare the two.

Now, back on topic. How about those NPC voices...

Yes, that's my feeling on it right now too.
Thats the best comparison ive heard yet.
I hope SOE lifts the NDA before the game goes gold... it will be nice to see a real persons review and nothing something SOE told them to say.
I've read a lot about people doing previews, and they where told what to say and what not to.
Like here at MMORPG.com... the EQ2 preview was from SOE, but just pushed threw a mod... figures.
What will he do next?
