I will add that while you cannot say things like condom or even swear within the game as I have been told by CSR. Everday I recieve around five ingame emails from gold farming companies to buy hero or villain currency for x dollars.
I am a small blip of a problem compared to how they are breaking the rules and selling Ncsofts own ingame currency.
You're allowed an extra step to think about what you're communicating thru the act of typing it. Or, by pressing the teamspeak button. Take advantage of it.
Not after work and not after a nice cold beer while I sit down to chill out. I think you underestimate how fried someone's brain can be after a solid hard days work or week.
And an on the nose point about the EULA, I cannot fight this but I can moan about it and choose to give my money to another company.
However most popular games I have played today include any number of random discussion in party chat or wherever else and the EULA is fine about naughty language. Take world of warcraft for example in any given battleground you will see the odd mum joke or sexual statement. Heck trade chat on my pvp server is full of "lol noes you ^^%£$$"
I also take issue with the fact it is okay for children to play cox and potentially use a gun or knives and shoot someone in the face to kill them or stab them to death with a katana or claws that look like knives.
What is worse, swearing in front of them or giving them the virtual tools to simulate killing a human looking character npc with weapons they can get hold of day to day?
Many games now though cater for a more adult audience and if you want to let your child play any game as I allow mine too you have to be aware as the EVE Online facts state you do this pretty much at your own risk.
I find it hard to believe that you have yet to figure out that nobody on this forum cares. How oblivious can you really be? You broke the EULA and got warned. Take your money elsewhere if you want, most of us don't care.
And why post it here? Go to the official forum and gripe, maybe they will give you more sympathy there.
And to the person who mentioned it, you can be banned for offensive language depending on what you say and in what channel. Had a kid with a new account join the SG I was in and one night decided to see what words the filter blocked. He dropped the "N" word in broadcast and that was it.

Of course people care not everyone posts though, you yourself may not care but to claim the majority don't is putting words in people's mouths that you don't have the right to represent. If you don't lilke it stop reading and visiting this thread.
I came here to discuss this situation even if I didn't like someone's response and they made good points I would say so. I guess in a way I am discussing the effects of Eulas in mmos perhaps I should open a general thread in the pub too. Thanks for your post it has made me think.
In other games I have played people have used the N word to greet each other which included people of all races and backgrounds. They cannot be banned because the EULA has not copied CoXs stance.
I think its a bit unfair to state "Do not touch this game.", just because you broke the EULA and got a slap on the wrist. I'm a mature gamer and enjoyed this game for 4+ years (on and off). I knew not to go in a PUG group and start having sexually explicit conversations.. That is not the place to have such conversations. There are private chat channels that are employed so that one can do this if they choose. Apparently, you offended someone, so they reported you, as is their choice to do so. I applaud NC Soft for following up on such reports.
You claim to be a mature gamer, but to come here and tell people not to play this game because you got banned for breaking the EULA, screams of immaturity. The community of CoH/V has always been one of the nicest and helpful in any MMO. They are are probably happy you are gone.
Personally I need to play in a more adult setting that allows a freeflow of fun whether that involves swearing, chatting about things of a sexual nature or discussing the latest score's of someone's favourite sport.
I saw an ad for an X-Rated MMO on RedTube, perhaps you should look into that & stop complaining about a teen rated game that warns people about using inappropriate language in a public setting.

You sound like a six year old. Jimmy's game doesn't ban for that. Don't do stupid things which are against the rules you read and agreed to. It's very simple, even a seven year old would understand it.
In case you don't get it. There are millions of players in mmorpgs who never get any kind of ban or warning. Think about that for a few.
There are private chat channels that are employed so that one can do this if they choose.
If you mean using ingame private chat channels this is infact wrong, you are not allowed to use any profanity in the game's systems.
You still don't get it. If the GMs were giong around just warning people for anything we would be concerned. YOU VIOLATED THE EULA!!!!!!!!! This was all you. You were an idiot and got treated like one. You then come here and say "THIS GAME WON'T LET ME SAY DIRTY WORDS AND TALK ABOUT SEXUAL TOPICS!!!!!" and think we care. The immaturity in your posts are just staggering. You have done nothing but try to make excuses for your behavior and blame the GMs and the EULA. Hard day at work is not an excuse for TYPING things that violate the EULA. Having A BEER (you get that drunk off one beer?) is not an excuse for TYPING things that violate the EULA. Go ahead and find a new game, those of us in the CoX community will not miss you.
Actually yes this is what is happening I am afraid. If you read other people's posts above aka "a friend got banned for saying the F word" then you will realise this situation is more prolific than what you state.
If you do not like this thread stop reading and posting. If your a sadist and you like reading things you don't like in your spare time and commenting, keep going, you are not getting through to me I am afraid. Because while other people in this thread have a point you seem to just talk smack, good luck with that.

No I'm not talking smack. I just like to refute idiotic claims. Nobody has been banned for swearing or talk of a sexual nature in private chat between friends. Thats what /tell is for. You can say whatever you want to a friend and not have to worry about offending that guy you just invited to your team. You entire argument has no basis in truth.
after inviting someone new to you team that you dont know, you should have gone, "Hey we talk about adult/touchy subjects in this chat, if you do not want to take part please leave our team thanks."
...I'm a bit confused. Both games you mentioned, Warhammer and WoW, have pretty much the same CoC rules re: swearing. I know people that got spanked for that exact reason in both games. One of them more than once, so the final spanking was so hard he got banned (WoW). I might be missing something?
I got banned for having the name "Manimhigh" in wow, hell I got reported for having a pokemon name

That, is good to know.
-Would you like cheddar or swiss cheese? -Yes. -...
The filter blocks many words that most do not find offensive. These words are usually strange to have blocked, and can annoy many. Ass gets blocked by some filters, which you could hardly argue is terribly offensive. Hell, bush gets censored in some filters as well. I hope no one is hiding in a bush... My point is that a player can disable a filter and still not be responsible for what he/she hears, because the filters are not fool-proof tools. They are not adequate, and are simply a preference to do preliminary filtering, but can be cumbersome and annoying when trying to read simple text in game. Also, there is a difference between a dirty word and a filthy idea. The "F" word is bad, but saying you want to "F someone's mother" is completely different. You do not have a right to subject other people to things the majority would find offensive and inappropriate unless there are two things in place:
1. A andequate and explicit warning.
2. A tool that can completely remove the user from the undesired experience.
Without those two items, you do not have the above mentioned right. Suck it up, watch your mouth, and don't be so pissed off when you offend other people, especially when it is your own fault. We are in this together, try not to crap on other humans so often.
P.S.
I am no fan of Political Correctness, I despise it immensely. Swearing, using vulgar phrases, and saying things just to hurt/offend other people are not part of the PC I loathe. It's more of the "He's not black, he's African American" crap I can't stand.
No I haven't, got a warning though for basically saying another word for manhood and from a discussion regarding the preference to shaved parts. It was in a team channel with friends that a random joined. I will add this experience was from playing my villain rather than my hero, Im supposed to be flipping evil aren't I?
It helps a lot that you clarified what the actual situation was, and something close to what was actually said. In my years of online gaming, the one and only time I've reported someone was years ago in CoH, during the Michael Jackson molestation trial someone in Atlas Park was pretending to be Michael Jackson and spamming general looking for boys to molest. But I don't pad for people anymore because of the amount of hate speech I've stumbled upon in my chat window that way. Never reported those people, just quit without a word.
All I can say is this: In the months since I've been back, a lot of the people I was playing with four years ago now have accounts for their kids to play on. This is a more child-friendly game than any I've ever been in. I certainly wouldn't have had a problem with the stuff you said, but when random people join your team you have to account for their inexhaustable supply of potential randomness.
[snip] City of Heroes does not have much more than two years left in it. The ncsoft re-structure screams that. Plus the launch of the new star wars game and a couple of others will clean up. [/snip]
Considering that CHV is bringing in a consistent 10% of NC's global revenue for 3 years running now and is earning considerably more (roughly 18%) than Guild Wars is right now, I doubt that it's going to keel out soon, but we'll have to see. Unlike Blizzard, NC's page has pages and pages of spreadsheets for their investors and foreign relations you can openly browse through to see how they're doing.
Back on topic, I agree and disagree with your stuff, but I'd agree with the general sentiment to mind your manners if you don't know who you're talking to, and keep trashy stuff to closer confines such as supergroup channels.
Remember, it has to be fun to be a game. Grinding is a bedroom activity, and the point is definitely not to do my wife as fast as possible.
after inviting someone new to you team that you dont know, you should have gone, "Hey we talk about adult/touchy subjects in this chat, if you do not want to take part please leave our team thanks."
Problem solved.
Hey king already asked about that and the response from CSRs is below, also Cyro no supergroup or villain group channels are not safe if someone doesnt like what they see or even as a joke report you cause they find it funny you are in serious trouble.
"The language filter is a convenience to those who do not wish to read cursing in chat. It is not an effective policing tool, nor is it meant as such. We still ask that players be courteous and not curse in City of Heroes chat. Pre-warning of "adult humor" is not sufficient guard."
So you cannot have someone join your S/VG and then say hey chap sorry but we are a bit more adult here hope you have a nice stay. They can then report you and get you done.

Yeh maybe I was a bit hasty with that one however I am going on how dead the English EU servers were most of that playerbase have moved to US servers now anyway.
Im thinking also of the age of the game and the new competition coming out. Which may flop and give CoX more subscribers it is all speculation.

Children play lots of MMO's now.
We all modify our language to suit the occasion and audience.
If you do not know the people in the chat channel (including group), then you should abide by the EULA regarding language.
If the game was rated adult only and required some form of proof of age, then it would be different.
I don't expect it is reasonable to expect kids to say "Sorry, I am offended by the language and leaving the group".
While, I may not personally offended by certain language, I am offended if kids are present.
Sensible statement.

Oh, it left a mark.
I think I need to resub now.

Not say I have not called some people some interesting things in guild/corp chat.
