Yeah, come on. I agree everything should be free, your internet connection is free right. Expenses what are those. I got a good idea lets make the government pay for it and we can then get all thier content for FREE> Reality isnt real its just a figment of my imagination.

    lol :)

hehe Acclaim give this new game client away for FREE, something other P2P companies normally charge you £35ish for, and provide a FREE trial from day 1 of launch so you can try it out for FREE to see if you LIKE it, and only ask for a standard market monthly sub if you decide that you actually LIKE IT...

And people still find room to moan.

    Staggering tbh.

Every Play to Achieve gamer should be supporting this launch/ payment model imo.

Pay to Achieve gamers should just look elsewhere for games with item malls.

Well, in my honest oppinion, that part is retarded. I didn't even want to keep going because I knew I'd just want to keep playing more. Yes, that probably means that I should just pay. Well I don't want to pay, unless I get to try this particular game for a long enough period of time to come to a conclusion.
You don't call an mmorpg "Open Beta" stage if you have to pay to play full content. It's completely misleading in every way possible. First of all, the European servers aren't even in Open Beta, they're in "Final" stage. Only the US servers are supposedly "Open Beta", even though there's nothing "Open Beta" about them. Yes, there are lots of players in the beginning zones, and yes, they are testing the servers. But that's still not "Open Beta" as long as you have to pay to get past a certain level and area.
People keep saying "They aren't charging for the beta. The game is free until level 8", well, that's not called Open Beta, that's called a FREE TRIAL. HUGE difference ffs. I'm not expecting this game to be Free to Play, because honestly, I hate free to play mmorpgs. I would rather pay for a certain game and in return get a good MMORPG, but this is just seriously misleading. The developers are taking advantage of the word "Open Beta" to gain popularity.
If it said that this game was in Final stage, and that you'll only be able to reach level 8 without paying, then I PROBABLY would have tried it.
A game that really DID have an Open Beta was Lineage 2 (this is just one example). It was completely free to download and register. You had access to every single area, every single item, every single class etc. You got to try full content for free during a period of about a month while they were testing the servers. THAT'S Open Beta. Spellborn is NOT Open Beta....>:C

Your post looks like you thought you could play for free, and now you are angry, I'm not sure but this is what I understand reading it. There is no free things in life, well, actually a few ones, but the result of people doing a job, like developing a game and maintaining it running is something that needs to be paid. I know that free stuff is nice, I like getting stuff for free too, but everybody need to pay the bills, even the TCoS developers.

Obviously you didn't read my post. I clearly state that I didn't expect this game to be free because of the fact that I don't like free MMORPGs.

    Current mmorpg: Everquest 2
Current RPG: The Last Remnant (PC)
Current console games: Tekken 6 (PS3)
Current PC games: Super Street Fighter IV: AE2012

I read your post and got the same vibe. If you wanted an actual beta, you should of tried getting into the one a longggg time ago. It's well known that this game was going to be freemium (free to play with a very low level cap) for ages now, since before Acclaim got ahold of it. Acclaim put the game up as it was going to be when it was live. Early stages of Acclaim open beta did have no level cap, then right before the transition to open they capped it. Why? Because this isn't a beta for bugs or whathave you, and this information has been posted and discussed on multiple websites and forums for the game, as well as chats with the developers and publishers.

Why download the game and try it then complain? Just read on it. It's perfectly fine what they're doing. The game is in the same model as it would be when the game launched, which it has done. I'm a paying subscriber, level 13 and they aren't wiping the servers. I'd say my actual game experience has started.

There is no box to buy.

The game is free to download and play as much as you want to up to level 7.9...you can make multiple characters and level them to 7.9 if you want.

After that you much subscribe monthly.

You can buy a boxed version of the game in the certain parts of the EU as it has released here and I am sure that will happen when it releases officialy world wide.

here is a link to a Dutch site for the boxed version.

No one's going to care if you can just download it for free and sub.

Yeah alot wont care but for others that prefer the box will and also you get in game playing time credit so it isnt like you are being ripped off,it is not only Acclaim that is offering the game as a free D/L you can also get that here but the box is available with the ingame time so you have a choice....suits either type of player then so nothing here to complain about.

If someone had came up to me in 1980 when I was on my Atari 2600 and said we will be playing games with thousands of people at the same time.I guess my response would have been,"but I only have 2 joysticks"

Playing past newbie-town is really all you need to get a good enough first impression to decide if you are interrested or not anyways.

And if you are, paying for a month of subscription is still cheaper than buying a box. Nothing to complain about imho.

Open Beta, Free Trial, Preview.. Different names for the same thing, a free look at what the game has to offer before paying for it.. What they call it isn't important.

I agree that this "Open Beta" is not really a real open beta...i always thought open beta is still a testing stage. where we the players play the game. if we find a bug we tell them. i refuse to play this game anyfurther because you have to if you want to move on. they should get a item mall...

why would a game that was designed for P2P get an item mall? It has everything you would expect from any of top mmo. Its it open beta because there are little bugs and such that they still need to iron out and since its already more than playable why not let people in to play while they report the said small bugs so they can be fixed?

Most mmo's now a days are doing this tho.  LotRO Open Beta was locked at I think lv 15, AoC was 20, etc.  At least with this one you don't need to pay for the box and can get past the lv cap if you pay the month fee.

You can also, play spellborns trial forever without paying a penny,a lot of other trials cap you for x amount of days.
