Do you know what sold out means?  Have you ever wanted something new and it was sold out?  This phenomenon usually occurs around Christmas, but has been known to crop up now and again.

They didn't botch anything.  ALL MMOs have server issues - get over it  (ESPECIALLY smaller companies).  The fact that they are SOLD OUT of copies does NOT constitute messing anything up.  Putting up additional servers isn't as easy or cheap as you think.  Also, they are probably making sure everything on ONE server is working fine before they put up more.  People are so spoiled these days (looking at you WAR!).

I'm not saying whether or not the game is good, but seriously stop trolling.

Don't sound retarded.  They are not SOLD OUT of copies of the game.  It is digital.  There is no such thing as "SOLD OUT".   What they are out of is server space for your avatar.

So what if it's digital? What difference does that make? Server architecture is a limited resource. Bandwidth is also a limited resource.

What is funny you are slamming that guy yet you have no clue what you're talking bout

Go to gamedev.net. It's a programming forum. Look at their Network Architecture FAQ.

Learn the techincal details before you accuse someone of 'sounding retarded'

Personally i am giving Darkfall until 1 week from today, if sales are still closed i bascically say fuck Darkfall, and move my attention to a game where i dont get fucked around with stories and excuses as to the state of playability....and from what i have heard this is like a Vanguard release....and therefore doomed to fail.
Anyone have any info on WTF is going on with this game??

They have no money,i thought that part was obvious by now.It will probably take them a full year to come close to paying off their debts, don't expect any banks to further lend them any money right now.I am sure Tasos is no dummy, not in the least,i rest assure you he is trying his best to scrape up enough dough to open more servers and publishing rights and marketing ,all the good stuff that goes with running a business. The problem is people have families and mortgages, they have to pay their bills,so right now TASOS is trying to hold the fort together.

He took out a loan to start this game up 2 years ago,and the game did not come out,so again it is obvious he used the money to keep the project going and pay the bills. The problem is that with no incoming income that loan has run up some interest. Not sure how he did it,but he managed to get enough money together to finally get DF out,but i am positive ,they are operating on mince meat,or plum pudding, heck its not even Christmas yet ,oh well, they are operating on K-dinner?

Interesting post. Lots of assumptions in there though. If they were as broke as you say- surely would they not just sell every last copy they could? You know- like Funcom/ Age of Conan? Like Shadowbane did? Like how SOE does?

Good logic I give you that. But it's not an accurate picture.

There is only one assumption and it is simple. They want for their game to be good. They want for everyone to have a good experience.

Their server architecture is limited. Like EVE Online- it relies on players distribution being spread about the cluster.

Look at EVE, they are constantly updating. there have been times Jita would crash and QUEUE us up

This should be nothing new guys. Like EVE, they need to start small and let players spread about the cluser

sure they would. if they were 1. competent enough to run their server efficiently and get more people in and 2. if they weren't looking to maximize the money they take in before the game folds.

As I've said before, it takes longer to kill off all your potential subscribers 1000 or 2000 at a time than it does if you let all of them in at once.

on you card name space dont put more that 15 characters

So if your name on your credit card is Johnathan S Tuttle ( 16 letters ), you can't pay for the game (since credit card companies require the name used for billing be the same name used on the card ).

    Another brilliant Aventurine move.

People who are willing to put up with the crap Aventurine has been doing, do so because they really, really want to play the game.  They know the problems that they will encounter and simply do not care.

Ever since I heard about Rockstar working on GTA4 I couln't wait to play it, regardless anyone else his/her view, then the game got released on console first, thought to myself and talked with a few rl friends about how I felt, which was I felt it sucked, anyway even though I am active on several gameforums, never did it cross my mind to start screaming on forums about how I felt, then the game got released on pc, finaly, bought it the day it was released, installed it, yet couldn't play, wel I could but hardly saw 2 feet in front of me, sound where ackward, constant flickering of blocks , first thought was "me needs to upgrade my rig", but Crysis came, and could play that game without any problems, found info seeing more people had similar issue's, so I waited....patiently.....to hear something from Rockstar about patch/update, about 2 weeks after I bought it a new Nvidia driver was released which made the game bareble to me, few day's later Rockstar released a patch and made the game just awesome, yet still didn't goto forums and insulted Rockstar like I saw many do.

you realize thats one freakin long sentence there? ;D

Yes, they could do an AoC and sell lots of boxes of an unfinished game. Sure Aventurine would get some fast cash, but I`m glad they didn`t. I agree you only got one chance to convince players, and Darkfall would be slaughtered by the average mmo player. I will never play AoC again because of Funcoms failed lauch.

I`m a DF fanboi, and I find Darkfall annoying and unfinished. But I have patience and hope Aventurine will fix the most obvious flaws. It is hard to buy the game, and only the most dedicated players have the patience to try several days to get it. I got DF by staying alone at work four hour after the others went home, just to be able to use the super internet connection to buy DF.

Those in Darkfall at the moment are the most hardcore full-loot pvpers in the history of mmo`s, and I feel like a carebear compared to most of them. I understand why some of you complain about the  DF community, but it`s nice to have all the asshats at the same place. Darkfall is a dog eat dog game, and all are evil.

Darkfall is not a game for you.

LOL I was looking foward to darkfall, But aparently their new name is FailFall Online.

As for today I Am currently waiting to try Aion, or Crimecraft, or Global Agenda whichever comes first ^^.

But seriously im not paying any money for a mmorpg that has had its members lie to the public a lot , allows cheaters in it, and ect. if the owers of darkfall want me, and myself to inform my real life friends darkfall is avalable to  play they better give us a good explaination of why they developed such a cheap website, then why their system was delayed, and real explaination.

I do not want to hear, WE Did not have the founds to buy a server, we are sorry, as that is the worst BS I have ever heard.

  • AntariousAntarious Member UncommonPosts: 2,846

I never really followed Darkfall and I'll spare you as to why.

Yet being currently bored out of my skull I had thought about trying it.  As many here have the said the issue is you cannot buy it.  By the time people can buy it in volume games they were actually waiting for will be on the market.

You might "try" something and like it.. even stick around.  But in this situation they are going to have missed the boat.

That of course is ignoring any arguements about the state of the game etc... The biggest "fail" any game can have.. is not being able to be purchased by potential customers.  Especially in the MMO market where so many games are competing for the same market.

I don't know in the case of DF that might be a blessing. Sorry but just  had to point out that so many people are unhappy with the games state that all many would so is buy and flame. I see the "gate" system as lingering DF ultimate fate. Probably at least stalls  while Tasos mummy sends him some pocket money for the "next" server.

HOwever, aventurine is not caving in to the qill of the furious trolls to open up more slots. To do so will impact the game playability. They will take the slings and arrows of the forums while maintaining the integrity of the game. All the while working to get a new server (s) online

i keep hearing this.  i'm curious, at what point was the 200,000 forum members and the how many people applying for beta testing... at what point were those numbers not given consideration?

5,000-10,000 compared to hundreds of thousands...   soooooo, the assumption was that 1%-2% of forum goers/beta testers (if that much) would want to at least buy a copy and try it out?

    that is what you're defending?

the rest of your post is just random (bad) trolling.

could we please get correspondent writers and moderators, on the eve forum at mmorpg.com, who are well-versed on eve-online and aren't just passersby pushing buttons? pretty please?

Yes interesting point that always seems to get passed over. They can't open a US server due to copyright matters so it should be interesting to see how this plays out.

Just simple math says they can't stay afloat with only one server with 10K or so players....will be interestintg to watch.

I'm not trying to be a fanboi but I dont see how he was trolling in his reply. He's referrng to the multitude of posts we get on DFO foums to open the store. Demand is extremely high still. I see DFO accounts for sale for half 1k already.

Due to the restricted access AV unintentionally inflated the value of DFO accounts. I guess its to be expected when demand far outstrips supply

if you've heard anything from beta testers, you would know the game launched in an early beta state. You all will get to play when the game is launch ready, and its not really a bad thing that most people don't get to play atm, because you aren't really missing out on much.

    Heh...speaking of cuts

If the going rate on Ebay is 500ish per account, and someone had say I dont know...like 5k accounts to sell, it stands to reason they would make a killing, and never have to report it.

    Conspiracy Theory:

Tasos inflated the market on purpose.

He is currently dumping accounts on Ebay, knowing full well that he doesnt intend to keep the game going as it has garnered him too much debt.

This way he can still pocket a few million after they close, while showing on his taxes he lost everything with game.

Things that make ya go hmmmmm

Oh OK...it was a lame attempt to explain what is going on. Heck considering some of the posts on the DF forums, does it really matter :P

I dont know the real reason for why AV has acted this way, during the launch phase of DF, but I doubt anything good is going to come of it.

I saw the thread on the DF site about changing the front page the other day. Pretty sad when they still wont do anything about it. Even when their customers are begging them.

I am in the boat of "just watching" the forums recently.  I have no intentions to razz the game, and its players but I tell ya: AV is doing everything possible to insure that not only them and their game...but their customers as well have a great big "KICK ME" sign painted on them.  Witness the first part of my post.

There is no way they can be this ignorant as to the damage their image is taking.

Asking Devs to make AAA sandbox titles is like trying to get fine dining on a McDonalds dollar menu budget.

You would be surprised. There is no successful business plan that involves such a bad launch of a product. My theory is that AV was running extremely low on funds (which I don't see possible considering they got that 20 million dollar loan like last year). So, in order to make some money to continue the business, they had no choice but to release the game. There were a couple problems that occured here.

One, before AV released Darkfall, they wanted to make sure the servers would be able to handle the advertised load. This is called a stress test. The thing is, AV doesn't know how to use this properly. In order to test a server that can hold 10k, you'll need at least 6k for a general load stress test, then maybe 500 players in one area to test the single server running that serverzone. To my knowledge, AV didn't do either of those things, and replaced the main portion of the activity that was supposed to be players, with NPCs.

Two, this lead to AV not being able to know whether or not they can handle the amount of players that want in. So when launch came, and people wanted to give AV their money, which AV wanted badly, they were not able to because AV had nothing in return (sold out of server space).

And there you have it, a company with a game everyone wants(ed), 200k people interested in buying, and only 10k to go around.

I don't know how AV expects to pay for the servers they desperately need to release, because a lot of bad things are happening, like people leaving, cheating, exploiting, macroeing, and forumfalling.

I hope for the best regarding Aventurine and the game, but I don't see myself buying the game I was looking foward to for years now. It is a damn shame that this company is lost.

Anyone have any info on WTF is going on with this game??

if you've heard anything from beta testers, you would know the game launched in an early beta state. You all will get to play when the game is launch ready, and its not really a bad thing that most people don't get to play atm, because you aren't really missing out on much.

Well.... That's the tricky part and this is the dagger AV has dealt to their fans....

By denying access to the game to the masses at large, you avoid Metacritic giving you a bad overall score. Metascores really hurt games like Ryzom, Age of Conan, etc. Many folks, like myself, just look at a metascore for a title

However, potentially people may be screwed by coming in so late into the game. Some DF players report they have reached max skill already. It might be situation similar to EVE Online whereas new guilds find it tough to establish a foothold in the game

But since terriority appears to lack Soveriegnty rules perhaps it may not be so bad.

Ryzom suffers this issue. A lot of new players feel that the vets can do anything they can do but 10x better and have 100x more skills

This is sort of a flaw I see sandbox games keep having. Their skill caps are so high, newbies find it tough to get caught up

Also, if reports of hackers being rampant is to be believed then another backfire is that vets will be super maxxed. But before going live, if AV fixes the hack issues ironically this will mess with new players. Cause the vets used unfair advantages to reach max

I'm in my 'newly wed' stage right now. most of us are. Most issues wont become apparent til months down the road and major changes will be hugely unwelcome at that point.

What would be fair to new players when they go 'live sales' is to reset the server. But this will ofc majorly piss off the rest of the populace. It depends on how they continue to deal with macro'ing and hacks

    They needed money.

Which is kinda Ironic, cause it looks like they're going to lose a lot of it if nothing happens soon.
