Desperately in need of a new MMORPG
As the title says I am in desperate need of a new MMO to play either Free to play or Pay to Play, I have played most if not all Pay to Play MMORPG's and most if not all Free to Play 3D MMORPG's. Before anyone starts on the rant I should give 2D and 2.5D MMORPG's let me say that I wont play ANY MMO that is 2D cause it reminds me of the days of side scrolling games for consoles, and the 2.5D reminds me of Diablo 1 and 2. If I wanted to play a 2D game I will download a NES SNES GameBoy or Sega Genesis Emulator and some ROM's to play with. If I wanted to play a game with 2.5D graphics Ill re-install Diablo 2 and the Diablo 2 Expansion Pack Lord of Destruction. On both of my computers I have the top of the line graphics cards, im not going to waist them by playing free to play 2.5D MMO's. Its a waist of system resources and beneath me to even think about playing.

not to be snide .. but if you've already played all the 3d mmorpgs .. and refuse any other .. what exactly is there for someone to recommend? its like saying hey what car should I buy .. now i've test driven every single car out there .. don't like any of them .. so which would should I buy?
I should of been more clear when I stated I played most if not all 3D MMORPG's, I should of stated I played most if not all 3D MMORPG's that are Live and not in Beta or Development. And I also should of stated that if anyone knows of a 3D MMORPG that is currently in Beta or Developement that is worth looking into. Finally I laso should of stated if anyone knows of a 3D MMORPG that is out to play but is not on the list here at http://www.mmorpg.com that I should try. Sorry for not being more clear.

Your graphics cards are lower middle class at best and I'm wondering why you felt the need to point out that your dvd burners have lightscribe technology.
You didn't say anything about what type of MMO you enjoy, you just say that it has to be 3d. OK, I'll bite. You should play Age of Conan so you can give your video cards a work out. Don't expect to run on anything near high though. Or you could try Vanguard, but don't expect the view distance to be all that high. Or you could play WoW, but don't expect to be able to max out everything on that either.
You need to swap the ram between your computers. Vista needs 4gb more than XP does.

As for my Vid Cards? Unless there is a card out there bigger than 1gbs RAM then my cards can run almost any game out. As for games that require high end graphics the highest i have ever seen is 512mbs Even the high end cards like the 200 series from Nvidia arent pushed to their limits with current game technology. You say AoC will give my system a work out but even at recommended settings the graphics required are only Video Card: NVIDIA GeForce 7900GTX or equivalent Video Memory: 512 MB I have a 8600 GT with 1 Gb RAM on one computer and a 9400 GT also with 1gbs on the other I doubt Ill see any performance loss on either of my computers. Hell according to System Requirements Lab the site that runs Can you Run It, the only thing stopping me from running AoC on good settings on the Intel computer is that the CPU isnt high enough. Its running a Dual Core 2.2 Ghz and AoC recommends a 2.4 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo. It seems like you arent as bright as you might want people to think you are about vid cards, I suggest you do some actual research about what my vid cards can and cannot do before you call them lower middle class vid cards otherwise you just sound like a fool. How do I know this? Because I have played more MMO's than you even have time for. I have even played games that spout high end graphics and barely seen lag on the highest settings. Games like Everquest 2, EVE Online, and Lineage 2 which are heavy graphics oriented and barely dropped below 25-30 FPS. Hell the only time i see a drop in FPS in EQ2 is when I launch WinAmp which my FPS dropped to 20-25. I played Vanguard on highest settings and dropped to 20-25 FPS.

i tryed a few of those games and no problems with them on vista sword is one of the best games for graphics but gets really crap when you get deep into the game just throwing that out there but yea try updateing or running in admin
I dont know why but i am having problems logging into several games Requiem, Sword of the New World, and Cabal
Sword of the New World and Requiem wont launch and Cabal I cant get past the login screen(no it doesnt freeze causing me to reboot I get Failed to Connecte Please try again later)

I have tried all three of those games, eh.. waste of time. Uninstall them not in my opinion.

Since you sound like someone who wants the best, might I suggest an expensive geforce 200 series (maybe the 295?)? I'm on a 260, so I know what it's like to have a lower upper class card. Maybe you've got enough money to afford a true upper class card that blows any game away?

Crysis is awesome on a good system that can max it. No MMORPG comes close to comparing. Then again, a lot of the higher tech MMORPGs that are out right now would challenge your system on medium to high spec.

Do you not read? I already stated that my main system does not meet recommended settings because my CPU ishnt high enough. also if you ever bothered to look at Mabinogi and Runes of Magic you would see that they are 3D not 2D. an example of 2D is Ultima Online. AoC is probably the first MMO you have ever played so I will cut you a little slack. AoC is not the only MMO with a heavy graphics engine try taking a gander at Everquest 2, EVE Online, and Vanguard Saga of Heros and youll see that those also require a top of the line graphics card hell ill even post the recommended settings all 3 games

As you can clearly see there is more than just AoC that requires a half way decent graphics card and like me if you were to run these games your card wouldnt even break a sweat to run them. I have also run DirectX 10(and yes I do have DX10 installed on my windows vista system) games such as Mass Effect, and Fallout 3 on my system with no lag. Why am I going to drop $220 USD on a card when I could pick one up for $56 and still be over the recmmoned card to play the game? If you even bothered to play more than 1 game(a game with less than 100k active subscribers) then you would see that AoC is not leading the MMO industry in top of the line graphics engines.

Crysis is awesome on a good system that can max it. No MMORPG comes close to comparing. Then again, a lot of the higher tech MMORPGs that are out right now would challenge your system on medium to high spec.

Thought I would ring in on this topic. Why the post? You seem knowledgeable and have claimed to played almost everything. So what is left for us to recommend? Find a game that you like and stick with it instead of jumping from game to game. You have about a year give or take a few months before some new good mmos will be out. You might try something totally different like Wizards 101 for fun until newer mmos are out. I actually enjoy Wizards 101. A simple clean fun game. It makes a nice light game to my main games EQ2 and Guild Wars.
I notice the argument about your cards. The fact is your cards are not top of the line and are good middle ground cards at best. 9400 gt is not a top of the line card. 8600s are nothing that great either. I would have 8800s over those two any day. Even the 7950 cards over those two. Now that they are at a low price the 8800s are a great choice for game performance at an affordable cost. You may comeback and call me a fool as well but your cards are not that fantastic. Also lag and fps are different issues. 25- 35 fps is nothing to write home about. Fps is a taste thing but if I fall much below 50 fps I do not think of it as good performance. Below 35 is unacceptable for me accept maybe in a large raid in EQ2 where I drop to around 30 fps.

I get 25-35 FPS on Max graphics i get alot better on balanced, I used the max graphics fps to make a point that you dont need to spend $220+ to enjoy a game, and I know that my cards arent the best that are out but for URNotMega to say that I would have a strain playing even World of Warcarft is also wrong. He has absolutely no clue what my video cards can and cannot handle. I know for a fact that if I ever wanted to play AoC that I could just not on max graphics because my CPU is not high enough and no matter what people say to play a game well you need more than just a killer graphics card you also need a larger amount of RAM and a killer CPU. There are very few games I cant play on just balanced graphics and I wouldnt play them even if I could. The reason why is that most of them are FPS(First Person Shooters not Framerate Per Second), and in my opinion offline FPS games require no skill to play it is just simply get from point a to point b and kill anything that moves in between those 2 points. Yes the same could be said the same for some CRPG's but more often than not if the game developer is good then their is an actual story line to follow which makes the game that much more difficult to follow.

No, he is very much wrong I have played alot of high end 3D graphics MMO's(EQ2, Eve Online, Vanguard, Stargate Worlds Beta) and none of them ever caused a heavy strain on my system on even the highest setting. The only reason I havent played is AoC I havent isnt because of my vid card but because I never liked the Conan story line, neither the movies nor the books has ever held my attention. In my opinion the Conan series is a complete waste of time for me to even flip through. That and with a active player base of 100k if I wanted to play a game that is nearly a ghost town Id play SWG.

You are correct about WOW they should be able to handle WOW at maxed settings. You are also correct your cpu is a bigger issue then you cards, especially on cpu heavy games like AoC and EQ2. MMO gaming is a fine balance of cpu, gpu and memory.
I recommend EQ2 it is not secret I am a huge EQ2 fan. It is a beautiful deep game that allows players a bit of freedom and creativity. I am still waiting for the freedom of pre-nge SWG. However EQ2 gives more freedom of choice then most any other mmo out at the moment. That is if you like games like that. Many prefer the more linear play of WOW. I also recommend The Saga or Ryzom.
I am currenly playing the following games both online and off(not all at once i switch back and for between them) Everquest 2, Warhammer Age of Reckogning, Fiesta, Mageten, Rappelz, RF Online, Runes of Magic, Taikodom, Metin 2, Twelve Sky 2, Shaiya, Mabinogi, Mass Effect, The Witcher Enhanced Edition, Fallout 3, and The Elder Scrolls 4 Oblivion. All of those are 3D RPG's some have more cartoony graphics than others Fiesta and WoW for example but games like Mageten EQ2 Fallout 3 and TESIV require better than average graphics which is what my cards provide. No they arent the $220+ cards that I would like to have but sence the cards I do have run the games I want to play rather effectively then I see no need to drop $220+ on something I have no need for and purchase something I do need like anger management programs or more cartons of cigarettes which ever is easier to get.

Try Everquest 2 or Asheron's Call.
Asheron's Call have unique allegiance system... say if u have 2 computer, u can create 5 or 6 character on each acct and you both can swear to each other and passup exp from bottom(your main character). It has unending levels to level.. check it out.. free trial it.

We have different ideas on what would be acceptable performance then. On the systems you describe I know that EQ2 a processor heavy game would task your systems greatly. If you claim it did not on maxed settings then you got magic boxes based on the specs you present and I would love to know how you did it. I know EQ2 inside and out I also know its requirements and I would not recommend maxed settings for that game on your systems. Well accept maybe at 800 x 600 even that would tax your system both cards and cpu. One thing not mentioned is what rez are you running at on these games since that is a very important issue when talking performance. For me all games have to be at 1920 x 1080 rez. If I can not get good performance at that rez I do not play it. So far I have not encountered an mmo at that rez with graphic maxed or near maxed my system can not handle.
I love mmos and have to be totally immersed to really enjoy my experience. Here is where I go to escape the real world.
Read above for EQ2, as for AC1 I played it for 4 and a Half years before I got bored with it, when I quit I had 2 max level characters(126 at the time) and 4 accounts that had enough weapons jewelry and armor to outfit atleast a dozen toons. Like I said there are very few I havent played, I wont play FPS games, I wont play 2D or 2.5D games(except for Diablo 3 I cant wait for this game to come out), I forgot to mention I wont play Browser based games either. If I had to pick a genre of games I like it would be fantasy, Ill give SciFi a shot but mainly I stick with Fantasy. I will not play Historical, Super-Hero, Horror, Real Life, or Sports. There are some exceptions to the rule so to speak like if they were to make a MMO based off The White Wolf Franchise I would play it, hell it would probably give The AD&D MMO being developed by Turbine a run for its money.

Have you tried Ryzom? I have not played it since its return but I played it for about 2 years prior and I highly recopmmend it. Someone with your experience should try it. You are expereinced and probably do not need your hand held. Ryzom might be a good choice for you.
