You are parsing the choices incorrectly.
"Everquest 2" cd edition
not
"Everquest" 2 cd edition
EverQuest II will rock.
But that dosn't mean you cant get the DVD version, DVD version != Collectors Edition. Just that instead of the mess of CDs you get 1-2 DVDs or whatever.
Everyone keeps associating DVD version with Collectors for some odd reason...
Dewfire Gnome Paladin EQ2
Retired: AO, DAOC, EQ, SWG
Unless of course, they don't have a dvd-rom. In which case, it's the cd version for them.
I'll be getting the DVD version, can see the CD-rom version being a lot of hasstle if there is more than 2 CD's.
65 Druid Tallon Zek,
50 skald Gaheris DAOC,
50 Cabalist Gaheris DAOC,
44 Merc Gaheris DAOC,

i am going to buy the WOrking version. i have heard that sony tends to release unfinished buggy products to meet a deadline, so i am getting the special Working version that i stress tested recently; as i don't feel like dealing With a buggy unfinished pay-fOr nonWorking beta.
EverQuest II will rock.
DVD all the way, just got my new player today and it's GREAT!! Watch Gladiator on it, forgot what a good movie that was.
There was NO way I was going to deal with 10+ CD's. It's like back in the day when "police Quest" came out on 9 (I think) disketts.... it was just to much.
People GO OUT and BUY a DVD player for your PC. (it doesn't have to be a burner) I bought mine today for just 39.99 CDN!! 16 X DVD with 48 X CDRW.
EQ2's a good game and all, but it isn't bringing anything new to the genre. Much like WoW, it's just polishing what's already out there.
EverQuest II will rock.
For curiositys sake, what were they?
I haven't noticed anything that hasn't been done before, although the implimentation may be different.
Doesn't have to be super specific either, just in general terms. Don't want you risking running afoul of the NDA police.
Yes god forbid a person testing the game should be allowed to tell the people who will potentially be buying the game what exactly they are paying for
Be careful what you say tester. The SS errr...SOE may come into your house tonight. You will feel a pillow over your head and then hear a "pop".
ROLEPLAYERS UNITE!!!!!
Critical thinking is a desire to seek, patience to doubt, fondness to meditate, slowness to assert, readiness to consider, carefulness to dispose and set in order; and hatred for every kind of imposture.
*EDIT* Took out my post, don't know if it was violating the NDA or not.

Uh....if it wasn't going to bring anything new I wouldn't be buying it. I suggest you not post again until you figure out what the hell you are talking about.
Please, then, tell me what is in EQ2 that is unique to the game?
What new thing does it have? Have you personally played the game?
Just one unique feature. All I ask.
Locked encounters? - FFXI
Concentration for buffs? - DAoC
Voices? - WoW has em now too. And from the sounds of many peoples impression of the voices in EQ2, they aren't as pervasive as some seem to think. To be perfectly frank, while some of them are good, many are repetetive, or in the case of the Kerra npc's simply bothersome. Something about the pronunciation grates on the nerves.
Mob AI? - Nothing special there. Same as EQ, and just about any other game you can mention.
HO's? - Just a variation of the skill chains in FFXI mixed with the special moves they added for melees in EQ some while back.
Instances? - Started in AO, seems to becoming de rigour for the new batch of MMOs.
Graphics? - A high poly count, and way to much bump mapping isn't bringing anything new to the genre.
Most of the rest is rehashed from Everquest, albeit with much different mechanics.
I suppose you could call not being able to buff people not in your group something new, but I wouldn't say it improves the genre any. If anything, it seems a step in the wrond direction, and I wouldn't be surprised if, like the no healing policy, it get's loosened up a bit between now, and launch.
If there is anything I missed, feel free.

OK, first of all WoW didn't have any voices when I tried the stress test and, as such, would not appear to be a main feature of the game(added immersion).
As far as the mob AI is concerned, why don't you name a game that does use a 'combat brain' similar to the one in eq2? Most other games have monsters that track hate, but I don't know any that have advanced tactics/responses like the ones in eq2 are supposed to have.
I wouldn't call 'no buffing' a feature, but it is something that I am looking forward to. I hate games where I have to find a buff bot or someone to buff me so I can remain competetive with other players.
The archetype system may not appear to be anything new, but the way they are designing it looks really appealing to me. A conjuror is not just a conjuror, he is a mage/summoner/conjuror. Intended so that no matter what class you choose to be you will still be wanted in a fellowship.
I am also looking forward to the guild/faction reward systems.
Mainly, I'm just really interested in the amount of immersion that the game looks to offer.
Voices were added to WoW just recently. Or so they say here.
I honestly haven't seen anything out of the norm with the mob AI. Aside from them yelling 'Get their healer' before beating my ass down, because the (&*%%(%ing tanks don't know how to taunt. But that's a rant for another day.
I don't mind the no buffing policy. But from a design standpoint I see it as slapping a bandaid on a bullet hole, so to speak. I understand why they chose to go that route, but it rankles me for the simple fact that it's placing artificial limits on peoples gameplay.
Archetypes work well enough, though I'm curious to see how the enchanter thing pans out. They will still have the best CC, and Socerers will do mad damage, but I don't see summoners being in high demand, relative to the other two subclasses. So far it seems that any given class is interchangable with another, with exception of Enchanters for CC, since root just doesn't cut it in a dungeon.
Guild/faction stuff isn't in yet. Some of the guild stuff is supposed to go in soon
It is immersive, though I haven't had any 'whoa' moments like I did when I first played EQ yet. The world just doesn't match up with the old EQ world. Many if not all of the familiar landmarks are long gone, And the zones are missing the 'feel' that I was accustomed to. Even after 2 years I could still find my way around Nektulos blindfolded, and probably around many of the other zones as well. I could tell you that I was in Nek. simply from the ambient sounds, but in the new Nek, I was totally lost. Just a bit jarring I guess.
I would suggest trying the fighter subclass quest in Freeport, even if just for the laughs. Not neccesarily immersive or anything, but the warrior, or brawler section is probably one of the funniest quests I've seen.
EverQuest II will rock.
