2000 man battle he is refering to is in regards to something that happened on Saturday, where Hyperion did an attack on multiple cities at the same time on Yssam. There wasWe recently had approximately 2000 characters involved in battle in the same area. a staggering amount of people involved in the battles. The 2000 people where not all in the same chunk as far as I know, but the battle was localized in a series of guild cities in the jungles of Yssam.
"We recently had approximately 2000 characters involved in battle in the same area."
So this quote from the latest news from Tasos, is BS. Correct?
yes, but that area was a third of the world lol.
actually, its still pretty interesting. 2000 players involved in a city siege is one thing...2000 players involved in the same operation, trying to take control of a continent, or portion of a continent, not just one city, having an entire 1/4 to 1/3 of the land mass embroiled in a battle....doesnt sound too bad.
we can debate semantics on what constitues an 'area' in the game - fact is there are pretty large battles going on in the game world, and that, somtimes, is enough.
It really has nothing to do with semantics. The point I am making is the fact that this statement is, at best, misleading.
That can be expected, and is most of the time, from a fan of Darkfall. But for Tasos to say it puts it into a totally different light.

Misleading if you so chose to take it that way.
If you play the game and are familiar with the goings on, you knew exactly to what he was referring.

So what are you implying?
Not really trying to imply anything.
Better question would be to ask what Tasos is trying to imply with his "in the same area" statement.
I asked a question doing just that, and it was answered. But then it went into the reasons as to why it was okay for Tasos to post this information the way he did. I just responded with a reason as to why he shouldn't have. Why people would let that get under their skin, I really don't know, nor really care.
I chose not to subscribe after about 3 weeks of playing. The constant lack of information and the questionable information that did become available, played an important part in that decision.

Eh... This is like saying ok WoW had a 2k person battle but only if you add all the players in the BGs at the same time pvping.
Even War has keep sieges all the time but they are seperate fights. You cannot just add them all together and say ok we had one 2000 person battle. It is very misleading.
I would argue that is not a fair comparison. Battles in WoW BG are instanced and have no bearing or support from one another. Some of the cities in Yssam are pretty damn close to each other, I was there a a few days ago exploring and that place was crawling. Also realize that Yssam and Hyperion are both alliances and entities. This means that during th course of the various sieges, people are move and shuffled around to the different battle fronts where more people are needed.
You can see that the southern half of Yssam has a lot of cities that are in close proximity. You also have to factor in that during a challenge, the agressor has to defend their city for 4 hours. 2000 people is a lot of people to funnel into one section of the world map, even if it is more than 1 chunk.
hmmm.. fanbois like you should really get a hobby.. honestly. Do you do anything else within your day?

According to fanboy logic this doesn't matter. Since the whole world is not "zoned" it shouldn't matter as long as they are not all on the same screen. Distance should not matter as long as everyone is not on the same screen. Your logic fails.
Do you even play Darkfall? 2000 people fighting over that area is an extemely large amount and made for a very bloody battle. I know. I made the big mistake of exploring there via a raft the night that happened and got totally full looted.
Whoa! fully looted? omg. So hardcore.... thank you dorkatron.
Nothing special in have many people in battle, they dont have nothing more than that to do. Also, WOW server capacity is around 3000 per side, for a total of around 6000
No, Blizzard's servers support 10k people at a time if I remember right. What I want to know is where do these numbers come from? All these posts of 100+ people battles with screenshots of 20-30 people. If you have time to count your opponents, there aren't as many as you are thinking.
Wrong on that aspect, get the Cesus mod.
The most people ever online the most populated server at one time that I saw?
2.5k people
Yes, thats it.
Don't believe me? Download the Census mod yourself, WoW does not have that many concurent players per server honestly...
How many can they HOLD?
Who knows, they'll probably never get to capacity.
I'm pretty sure that mod only counts the people that actually have the Census mod. Could be wrong tho...
Yes that is entirely incorrect...
It does a /who and then breaks down the people by class and race...
like /who Blood elf Paladin
then it does
/who Blood elf Mage
then it does
/who ...
ETC.
Getting EVERYONE on that server at that time.
So no, the Census program doesn't just get people wiht it, it gets EVERYONE online at that time.
Not quite accurate.
The mod does poll using /who but it can only take the information for a given faction that its used under. So if you got 2500 while using it on the horde side, you can probably figure double that number on alliance currently or cut it in half if you do the alliance side.
So It does get EVERYONE as you like to emphasize but only on one faction. Even their site requests data from specific factions periodically to get an accurate number.
And of course it auto filters any char lower than 10 so you are missing those as well, even if they are bank alts they are on the server.
i think the point is: Darkfall is having massive battles, approaching EVE in scope.
i love how Tasos the puppetmaster still knows how to work the troll crowd into a mindless frenzy.
Eve has those battles in one area, not spread out across the universe. SO DF isn't coming even close to Eve, unless Paragon was misleading us. If he hasn't then Tasos was misleading us. Well, one of them is because their info contradicts.

2000 people is doable. When you have a handful of features, and a shallow combat system. Games with more features, and more complex combat mechanics have to give up large numbers to support them. Its give and take.
The only thing the Darkfall server has to keep track of is player position, and flat damage rates.

Has anyone bothered to read the 'features list' on the website, and then see the quote where Tasos said the game was 'feature complete' about 6 months ago.
I'm not sure how anyone who has done a little homework on Tasos can believe anything he says. More than likely the 2000 number is just the concurrent users and there happened to be a big battle going on, so Tasos threw those two pieces of information together.. similar to what he did with 'feature complete'.

Pretty sure we both know he has already admitted to never playing the game, yet he seems to pretend like he knows the inner working of the Darkfall server infrastructure.

. . .and playing that game has what to do with server infrastructure knowledge may I ask?
Point is that you know as much about the infrastructure as Mr.bloodworth does and can't really debunk his claims. Now if you were a professional that had worked on the servers your word would be worth some merit, but for now it's barely worth the cyberspace that it consumes.

I'm not claiming to know anything about servers, but at least I play the game. Is anyone outside of Aventurine really in a position to act like they know how their servers work?

But you have 'the ear of the devs' , at least, that is what you said.

May I suggest the ear is faulty, and the publicity machine needs a bit of oil.

No, you are right no one here should be able to comment on the server infrastructure. However, people can comment on the practices of Adventurine. I for one will not buy the game, not because of the game itself, but because of the people running it.
Sorry to say but things would be better if Darkfall was picked up by SOE or EA. At least then we would be assured of its survival.

2000 people is a lot of people to funnel into one section of the world map, even if it is more than 1 chunk.
hmmm.. fanbois like you should really get a hobby.. honestly. Do you do anything else within your day?
ironic much?
Pretty cool that their entire paying subscriber base was in this battle! Here's to continually talking about a game that has about:
.000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000001 %
of the MMO player base! Cheers!
(Or if you want to be truly accurate about: .00066666667 % of the MMO crowd)
A) DO you play Darkfall? If you did you would know that the battle was only a fraction of the player base.
If your so worried about people talking about this game that apparently has such a small player base then why are you posting here?
2000 people is doable. When you have a handful of features, and a shallow combat system. Games with more features, and more complex combat mechanics have to give up large numbers to support them. Its give and take.
The only thing the Darkfall server has to keep track of is player position, and flat damage rates.

Has anyone bothered to read the 'features list' on the website, and then see the quote where Tasos said the game was 'feature complete' about 6 months ago.
I'm not sure how anyone who has done a little homework on Tasos can believe anything he says. More than likely the 2000 number is just the concurrent users and there happened to be a big battle going on, so Tasos threw those two pieces of information together.. similar to what he did with 'feature complete'.
eve has 1,400 people battles

But....but he plays Darkfall, that alone should make him some sort of computer wiz, shouldn't it?
Iiii-iiiiiit's.... me!!! *Hooray*

But you have 'the ear of the devs' , at least, that is what you said.
tasos and you have said very specific things about this 2000 person battle, and only one of them can be true.
May I suggest the ear is faulty, and the publicity machine needs a bit of oil.
First rule of PR, keep your story straight.

What does playing the game have to do with having technical server knowledge?
I am the type of player where I like to do everything and anything from time to time.
