Do you find the term "Huntard" offensive?

I'm surprised no WoW vet has yet speculated on how the word came to be. (Wow vets, you there?) Either way, it's been around a long time, in fact more or less since inception. The term had nothing to do with the hunter being OPd, UPd, jealousy or any of this bullshit.  Back then many of the wow servers had big communities of gamers that met on external sites and forums and would trade jabs and insults "Ha i owned your ass one on one in TM!" kinna thing (some servers still might but the three I used to play on didn't when I left, anyways). The story goes that there were a couple of high profile cases (remember the loot rolling system was completely different and caused much more frustrations that it does today) in which hunters rolled for gear that was totally not meant for them. I only remember one, and that vaguely, and it was a hunter rolling for a piece of caster loot on the basis that "it would help his arcane shot." This was documented and screenshot and posted on the forums. The word huntard emerged (aided by the fact that back then hunters coud literally sit back and go make coffee while playing and was generally considered to be a class that required little skill) and as gimmicky names often do... it stuck.
Other names have not stuck or have changed, for example... "you've been warlocked" at some point meant you had been nerfed or sucked. Funny eh?

The main hatred towards hunters in the early days was all about melee weapons. The amount of times I had to hear the idiotic "hunters are a ranged class so we melee have priority on all melee weapons" was staggering. There were only a few melee weapons worth it for hunters and sadly fury warriors and rogues were both also after the best set for hunters of those days: the Dal'Rend set from Upper Blackrock Spire.

Rogues and fury warriors had better options available for them from the Molten Core while hunters didn't. The Dal'Rend set was the best hunters could get. However because it was also nice for melee classes there was a lot of anger towards hunters rolling for that set. That anger escalated and became quite extreme for a long time. With the introduction of melee weapons more aimed at hunters and less at melee classes the anger faded away for the most part.  These days the hunter hatred is nowhere near what it used to be.

In those days many started blaming hunters for every bad pull, claimed that all hunters rolled on all weapons, cloth and even plate. Most of the stories from that time were made far worse than they were. When a warrior rolled need on a caster ring they called him an idiot (and rightly so), but when a hunter did the same they blamed the entire class instead of the idiot player. It was just a negative hype and quite frustrating. I always played with my pet on passive and never send it in before the tank had the pulls positioned, yet many pugs blamed my pet (that hadn't even moved from my side yet) for bad pulls.

It was in that time that the word huntard was used most and always in anger as an insult. These days many use it for fun because they like the word for whichever reason and I think most don't even know the history behind it.

Wow, you worded what I was just about to say perfectly

PVE wise huntards take no real skill to play, PvP is a different story!

Sure it's demeaning but you have to take into account that people addicted to shaming others are socially challenged and not to be take seriously at all.

Shaming other people is abusive and those people who engage in it obviously are coming from an abusive background so it's best to feel sad for them.

Perhaps /ignore may be the best thing to do for some of the more pathetic types.
