Where did all this Mythic-bashing come from?

I'm gone for just a week and then there's suddenly a bunch of anti-WAR/Mythic threads everywhere. So what did I miss?

Spring Break season, the WoW fanbots are on the loose. What else?

  • AntariousAntarious Member UncommonPosts: 2,846

They've always been there... just not to the degree of any other game on this site.

Maybe more people recently got banned from VN?  That's where the majority of Mythic players used to post... anyway.

players tend to hold back until some months after a release. By that time you see if the game sinks or swims. WAR sunk fast, almost as fast as Vanguard after launch. It became apparent that the game was over hyped and under developed, that players were leaving in masses. Same happened with AoC. I honestly dont think players are that hard to please, its just so happens that most of the titles coming out are half assed, medicore games that could have been designed much better. The quality of game design has dropped drastically, and over time you will see less of a tolerance for it.

By WoW fanbot I also mean grumpy old vets who have gas because they're stuck in the good old days, and they try and eventually bash every new MMO that comes out, particulary WAR, because it's so similar to their hated enemy, WoW.

Well, yeah. I was half kidding when I said WoW fanbots, you should know that lol.

Yeah sunk really fast that explains why I still wait in queus most nights to log in.

Most of the idiocy is from shills and WoW fanbois, anyone with a IQ above 84 can tell that.

Anti-Mythic?  Hogwash.  I'm only anti-EA (which apparently owns Mythic).  I've never played anything that Mythic made.  I have, however, played a couple of the sports games that EA put out.  They were awful games, and the reason I haven't picked up anything made by EA since then.

That makes me wonder how the game is actually doing. I suppose I have been as dissapointed about how WAR turned out as some others here, but I am not quite sure that the game is actually doing so bad. What were the latest subscriber numbers? How many active servers are there now (compared to release)?

The WoW-kiddies are bored on Easter break.

  • Jackio81Jackio81 Member, Newbie CommonPosts: 418

    Blame the recession...lol

Anyways, this is mmorpg.com, right this minute bashing on WAR is cool....plus you can't argue next to DF fanbois, WAR fanbois are the next target group that trolls get the most fun out of flaming...trust me, I've had my fun on warhammeralliance.com and they are one sad and delusional group of players if I do say so myself.

Next to DF fanbois of course....;P

    Well lets see........

    1. They pissed off DAOC fans by ruining it with an expansion so everyone left and you can't ever fix that damage once it's done, not even with classic servers because the community wont ever be the same and alot of it is nostalgia.

    2. WAR is just crap, people wanted a gritty Warhammer experience but it looks like WoW, it plays like WoW and the RVR is worse than DAOC's and it's even easier than WoW.

I was thinking much the same yesterday when dropping by. I see some blame WoW fanbois, but these forums hardly ever contained many loudmouth WoW supporters and I doubt they would manager to recruit to here. I can't really see a reason why WAR would suddenly get a bunch more haters though. Then again, it only takes a disgruntled few to kick up a fuss and then the bandwagon is rolling.

As per probably usual someone tried to hype up the MMORPG they played to try and get more people to play it, and the MMORPG.COM forum train ran straight over it, in the hope of actually putting everyone off playing MMORPG's

    Ironic community tbh

I mean back in 2002 people actually promoted MMORPG's to play and everyone was happy, now it seems you promote one and its everyone elses job to convince people NOT to play it

Its just people venting disappointment after raising their hopes for the game imo.

Well ppl need a new target now that the dust is settling around DFO.

WAR is trying to re-establish itself with the trial, new content and bug fixes, very much like AoC, so it's human nature to knock a company when it's trying to turn it's misfortunes around.

Mythic and Funcom definately dropped the ball, but from what I've seen they have picked it back up again and trying to reach the goal, shame you have an element of ppl who don't want these companies to reach it no matter what changes the companies make for the better, you always find fatalists in all walks of life.

If any of these games stood still from release I would say they deserve to be ridiculed and ignored, however they are improving and they are working on their respectives games, perhaps thats one reason you find ppl having a constant go at them.

You sit in queues in warhammer?

    Let me get this straight.

They launch with way too many servers.. most servers are empty which makes gameplay suck.

So they merge 75% of their servers, and now you are bragging the game is so popular you have queues?

I'm sorry, but there is no reason to brag about queues when they just merged 75% of servers.  All that means is that they merged servers too serverly in anticipation of further drops in overall subscription levels.

No no, all the good servers have queues because people are trying to get on them from their shitty server :P

Currently restarting World of Warcraft :/

The 'progress' arguement doens't hold water in the MMORPG genre, expecially with AOC.   These games are not in a vacuum...  yes, both warhammer and AOC have added content since launch, but they started very far behind WOW, LOTRO and EVE.... and those games have added a ton of content also  LOTRO has been adding a ton of content frequently over the past few months, EVE had a huge free expansion, and wow is a few days away from releasing an enormous patch.

War and AOC have made progress, but they are even further behind the leaders than they were at launch.

Thats kinda how I see it too....I jsut think people had too high of expectations for WAR......They were expecting DAoCx2 and that just wasnt going to happen......Also these guys need to get over DAoC and move on.....I played it, it wasnt that great..... I actually like WAR more.......I think mythic is doing an OK job....They made some mistakes early and had very unreal expectations.......The games biggest issues (end game keeps, sieges) havent exactly been perfected by any other company either.....

Mythic bashing has been around for years, more than most MMOs have even been alive actually haha.  Mythic catered to it though in DAOC, whoever bitched loudest got their classes buffed or another class nerfed, so then everyone did it.  Unfortunately it was the same way in Warhammer.

I guess the game got a little shallow in the long run for many players (including me). That is all there is to it really.

You sound as if your accusing WAR of not having the content of WoW/LoTRO and EVE? if thats true you do realise those games have been out for some considerable time, you don't just click your fingers with a game that released last year and see it suddenly catch up with older MMO's.

In terms of content if your wanting to compare, then all of those games lag WAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY behind Everquest 1 with it's 15 expacs, omg WTH are WoW/LoTRO and EVE doing thats so wrong not to be up there with Everquest 1?

    You get my drift?

If you had played DAOC for a few years...you would have directly experienced mythic's mismanagement of the game which drove  more than half its subscriber base away.Combine this with  WAR that took  nothing from all the accumulated DAOC experience......and you have the reason why there is disappointment  by players who love rvr.
