Ive got 7,000 AUD to blow and wanted to get a mean computer but am unsure of what to get. Could you please point me in the right direction or post the gaming PC here.
TO be honest you dont need 5k USD to have an awsome computer, unless you know what you are getting and if that was the case you wouldnt be asking for help . Look around newegg.com and check out what parts they have. for 2.5-3k usd you could get an awsome setup with a great monitor

My advice?
AMD route,
CPU: X3 720 BE or an X4 810
Mobo: Asus M4A79T deluxe, AM3 socket with 790fx chipset.
Ram: Get some Corsair Dominator of OCZ platinum 1600mhz.
GPU: I'd go for a HD 4870x2
Keyboard: G 19 or a Merc Stealth
Mouse: Razer Death Adder
HD: Raptor 500GB
PSU: Good brand name maybe OCZ 750W or more.
Case: Aplus Twin Engine Black ATX Case With Window - 2X 250Mm Blue LED Fan
Sound Card: Sound Blaster X-Fi Titanium - Fatal1ty Professional Series
DVD: Try getting a DVD RW/RAM
Monitor: Not sure, maybe a 20" with speakers I find anything larger is a bit much.
If you're going the Infitel route:
CPU: Whore I7 965 Etreme
Mobo: Not sure maybe a Asus Socket-1366 P6T Deluxe/OC Palm ATX 3xPCI-E DDR3 ?
GPU: same as above although you could try a geforce 285GTX if you wanted to go the Nvidia route.
But I say go AMD as they have good pricing allowing you to save cash for future upgrades and with those setups the difference is undetectable to the human eye once gaming at normal resoloutions. At high resoloutions the Infitel setup will probably make a difference (you don't know how painfull that was to type!).

why drop 1k on a cpu that does what a 2-300$ one does. unless your doing anythign extreme you dont need that.
best lineup,
motherboard is the most expensive right now, but will give you the most options available at the moment.
evga x58 classified
intel core i7 920 and overclock it to 4ghz
coolermaster v8 or v10 heatsink
antec 1200 case - or any other full tower case
2x 320gb 10k raptor or SSD drives for main - and also 1tb storage
get a CHEAP vid card right now, it will play all games, and will last until the end of the year. a gtx 260 would be fine. then at the end of the year get a gtx 300 series card when they launch.
corsair hx1000 watt power supply.
any dvd/blue ray burner ..whatever you need on that end.
6gb corsair dominators 1600mhz ram.
vista 64bit ultimate then upgrade to windows 7 64bit when its out
that should literally last you YEARS to come. sure computer parts are advancing bla bla, but that setup there, especially adding the 300 series vid card at the end of the year will still be just as good as any computer to come in the next year or two.

I agree with the idea here that there is no reason to spend a butt load of cash. AMD offeres some great gaming solutions as very reasonable prices. The X3 810 on a DDR3 motherboard with a 48xx series video card is a really hard deal to beat in price to performance.
Use the money saved for cool stuff like life time game subscriptions, nice computer desk, lots of soda and chip :-)
However Agricola1 got it wrong in the last sentence. As resolutions go UP the demand on the processor drops and the GPU becomes king. In fact at max resolutions and detail levels the i& does not beat the Phenom II, they are almost tied. In some tests even old Phenom Is have beat the I7 at max res.
As for video buy toward your monitor, if you are running a 19" monitor then a 4830 is awesome with a 4850 maxing you out. If you run a 22" then the 4870 is your max out point.
In all of this your mileage will vary based on the games and type of play. FPS need one step up in GPU over other games for results. RTS game need more CPU. In fact the one area of gaming that you can tell the difference of the I7 in is RTS gaming when taken to the extrem with massive mod maps and huge unit counts.
In the end do not buy a computer by throwing money at it and buying what seems the biggest and baddest. Buy smart and buy toward what you want to do making the most cost effective choices. This will save you money and still give you a great gaming experience.
coolermaster v8 or v10 heatsink corsair hx1000 watt power supply.
Heh the Coolermaster v8 and v10 seem incredibily oversize to me I'd just get a nice looking Zalmann one.
But really.. a 1000w power supply? that's just a ridiculous waste of money for a single GPU system. The system you posted would draw less than 350W so it would be better matched to a 600W PSU. PSU's become less efficient at less than 50% load, so a 1000w PSU at 30% capacity would be less efficient than a cheaper, quality 600W or 750W PSU (if electricity bills matter to you)
I would go for Intel as AMD and ATI have split after being together for ages as they're both losing out on products and money and AMD had to do a recall on products not too long ago. Intel is good and Nvidia is awesome!
First I wouldn't qualify AMD/ATI as having been together for "ages" considering they only merged 2 and a half years ago. Second, they aren't even splitting - AMD is spinning its manufacturing division off into a separate company, they aren't splitting up into old AMD and ATI CPU and GPU companies - they're effectively making a design company and a production company.
I don't know if you heard this but nVidia's defective chips recall was pretty damn bad, and actually effects users like us (I assume you're referring to AMD's Opteron problem, which none of us even would use).. $200 million because of a poor engineering decision over the bonding substrate to save a few bucks.
It effected all G84, G86, and G92 based GPUs. The problem mostly caused laptop GPU's to die, because laptops are powered on and off more frequently and this process of heating the GPU and cooling it over and over caused the bonding substrate to fail sooner than it would on the desktop versions. But the problem still exists in the desktop cards, it just wouldn't fail as soon as the mobile GPU's.
Sure enough my buddy's 8800gtx failed, and another friend had both an 8600GT and a 9800GT die.

Hello everyone...Im a new member and would like to give some input to your build.
If you would like to be blown away with gaming bliss and you really have the cash...Go with Intel and nvidia.
How would you like to game on a 60 inch + widescreen display. That's right 60+ inches of gamming bliss. The company Matrox and their Triple head 2 go Digi...makes this happen. You will be running a res @5040 x 1050 across 3 screens (3 x 22', 3 x 24', or 3 x 30') take your pick...However Amd / Ati do not support that high of a res,(3840 x 1024 is the best it will do ..or somthing close) and fall short as always! 2nd....if you use a Ati x2 card or 2 Ati in crossfire, you still cannot reach the 5040 x1050 mark (the last time i checked)! This can only be done with Nvidia cards(one ,two or 3 cards) depending on what kind of frame rates you would like, 3rd...Ati has no Physx...So...
You can run 2 x 285's (in SLI of corse or tri SLI)and play the most demanding games to date and well in to to the years to come!
As for Amd vs Intel chips.... For gaming, there are not many games out that support Qcore and the ones that do..do it poorly! However..in the next year , you will be seeing more games supported. With the Intel chip and the x58 board you can run tri sli (3 cards). With Amd/ Ati ("NOT") you get what you pay for!
Alot of you guys may not know that Windows 7 was made and built on Intel and Nvidia platforms. So it's safe to say that W7 will run faster and better on the Intel /nvidia Qcore systems! I cant wait to see all the AMD/ATI cheap arses crying "I should of payed a little more for the best!

In my opinion those resoloutions are very unrealistic, I wouldn't be playing anything at such a high res. Also if we're talking about support I believe the only cards to support DX 10.1 are ATI right now and shader 4.0 but this would be nit picking. With the AMD X4 955 BE the i7 is looking weaker, but if you want to blow all your cash for a cutting edge system then I suppose you could go Infitel.
But the actual difference between going AMD + ATI or Intel + Nvidia is not distinguishable by the human eye when playing actual games. The only difference is that Intel will clean out your bank account whereas AMD leaves you some extra cash, alot of extra cash infact!
DEATH TO THE INFITEL! AMD VULT!

And the point of not buying a 1000 watt PSU is because PSU's are inefficient at below 50% capacity which means wasted electricity and higher electric bill. If you have enough foresight to know you won't need a 1000w PSU then it's a waste of money to buy one. I don't plan on doing a tri-SLI setup and if I did suddenly decide to drop $600-$1500 on video cards a 750W PSU could probably still handle it though at that point a 1000w would be justified.
The best suited PSU will be at 50% capacitiy at idle and ~75% capacity at peak, but in a single GPU system which draws ~200W idle ~310W load this usually falls around 450W-500W PSU which doesn't leave much room for growth or capacitor aging.
Again you think everyone is willing to throw away money like you instead of getting good value for money.

"futureprofan" is just a myth. a pc that costs $2000 today will underperform a $1000 machine built 4 years from now. you would be better off spending $1000 now and another $1000 to build a new one in 4 years.
as far as intel-nvidia VS amd-ati the obvious choice is amd-ati. amd has (as usual) the best price/performance ratio for cpus and ati actually makes new technology instead of rebranding 8800's and passing it off as new.

You guys don't get it.. It's not AMD/Ati stopping me from seeing 5040x1050, it's the price tag involved with 5040x1050. If I had enough money and wanted to waste it on 3 monitors and tri-SLI a system I would sure as hell be buying an i7 and 3 GTX 285's to run them. I'm not against them.
Thing is I don't have 3 monitors nor will I ever, so I will not buy 3 GTX 285's to power something that I don't have. Since I don't have 3 285's I will not throw away money on a 1000w PSU that I do not need.
Farcry 2, STALKER and HAWX support DirectX 10.1. What games would you play that use Physx? 3 levels for UT and Mirror's Edge? Neither feature is a selling point.
Now I was originally commenting on the 1000w PSU for the build that Mythsyin posted though and only because he said to buy a cheap video card then upgrade to a 300 series when they come out, had he said to SLI them then there would be no argument. Otherwise it's an excellent build and the same I would suggest (except I don't like the cooler) for someone with $7000 AUD to spend. I'd try to get some SSD drives for main, that'd be a kickass system.

I hope your joking. there are so many things that come into play, that deal with the naked Eye . Try Performance. Frames that can Max out @ 60 FPS with V sync and Triple buffer on. Physics....... Right now Every Dev on the planet is moving forward making new tech and softwear, to keep on top.. case in point Adobe CS4 integrated with CUDA.. a nvidia TM that runs Physics for apps. Just that alone will make 30 mil Graphic artist go NIVIDA (seeing how im one of them)
. So keeping you system in a a bare min? Just play and run what is out at the moment ? Thst is the fucking worst Idea i ever heard.
The only selling point that you all keep stating is that ATI and AMD is a broke ass solution for performance... and if you follow your logic you will upgrade twice as fast as us, or you will always behind.
and to prove that with you....what are you running right now, and when was the last time you upgraded? What Apps and games are you playing now? What settings, and rez?
You keep pulling shit out of your ass, and yet you have not stated if you have the grounds to speak. I checked your post in the past ,and your a blind AMD fan.. and i wonder where its coming from?
Have you ever run even close to a high end Intel or a Nvidia PC?
You keep re posting Facts from other's reviews like there your own.
What sort of PC are you running...... Every post i see you Blindly Recommending AMD to everyone......and giving out AMD ATI Bias info.......
AND you have the nerve to post "FANBOY".
I am almost certain that your running old BS, and dest-top brick..........and telling everone what they should get.?.. I bet u have less than 3 years in building PC's ( most likely A barebones kid, adding a few pieces.)
Post your Shit....
I'M sick of getting in debates with people Spitting out Others points..... for a battle they haven't even been a part of. ( its like a Race Car Fan telling A Daytona 500 Tech what parts he should use.)
Where is your HIGH END SYSTEM THAT CAN BEAT A INTEL HANDS DOWN FOR CHEAP! (you don't take advice from someone that reads Ad's and reviews all day you take it from someone that uses high end equipment)
POST IT.

I don't know if you heard this but nVidia's defective chips recall was pretty damn bad, and actually effects users like us (I assume you're referring to AMD's Opteron problem, which none of us even would use).. $200 million because of a poor engineering decision over the bonding substrate to save a few bucks. www.theinquirer.net/inquirer/news/378/1004378/why-nvidia-chips-defective

PS the point of a 1000 watt or higher PSU is for upgradeing. you never know what you will put in your system later on. and the fact that a good 1000w PSU is only $100 more to futrue proof your PC
I know even the AMD fans have a problem with this statement..... are you even in the right Fourm?
Who trys to keep a PC for 4 years......who said that?
What we mean by Future Proof is be able to keep some of your old hard wear for a new rig to keep the cost down.
Not run it till we colonize the moon......Wow....
and after that gem .................. you stated :

this has no value coming from you. and also ATI rebrands as well...most companys do. new Technology you mean like CUDA
and Folding home? Physics? that all next gen games from blockbuster comanys are putting out from now on......sure..... do you still wipe your ass with pine cones...cuase there cheap and last 4 years if you wash them off?

Assuming you only need the box (and not a monitor or other stuff), don't spend more than about 1000 USD (I'm too lazy to convert that). Beyond what you can get for that, you're just going to be spending a lot of money to get very small improvements in performance. Whatever is "the best", in 6 months to a year there will be something better for half the price.
Save the rest for upgrades every year or so, always buying what's "second best" and you'll stretch your hardware $$ a lot further, and probably won't notice the difference.

Dude the reason I quoted and responded to Myth's build was because that was the one I mostly agreed with (except the PSU on the sole provision that he stays single GPU). I didn't feel the need to post another build that was near exactly the same.
Although, I wouldn't bother buying a cheap video card while waiting for the DX11 models to come out. For one, that's still another 6 months out, and then how long until DX11 actually gets put to use? While the DX11 adoption rate should be quicker than the DX10 rate, by the time you see a lot of DX11 games you'll probably be ready for a new card.
My opinion, if he wants a beast, is that he get an i7 920, 6gb DDR3-1600, and SLI a pair of GTX 280's. If he wants to go overboard there are more options too though.
Hey, Ive got 7,000 AUD to blow and wanted to get a mean computer but am unsure of what to get. Could you please point me in the right direction or post the gaming PC here. Thanks in advance Regards, Tim
Look at some of this... though It's much better in person!

TO be honest you dont need 5k USD to have an awsome computer, unless you know what you are getting and if that was the case you wouldnt be asking for help . Look around newegg.com and check out what parts they have. for 2.5-3k usd you could get an awsome setup with a great monitor
Ok, I really appreciate your help. Thnks
My advice?
AMD route,
CPU: X3 720 BE or an X4 810

I have a soap box and I am not afraid to use it.

PS the point of a 1000 watt or higher PSU is for upgradeing. you never know what you will put in your system later on. and the fact that a good 1000w PSU is only $100 more to futrue proof your PC

What? Missed it before.. what the hell are you talking about. I summarized a news article. Are you disapproving of the news? It doesn't make it not true.

Must stop fanbois rage ... must stop anger ....
NNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!
*ripps shirt*
AMD VULT!
In my opinion those resolutions are very unrealistic, I wouldn't be playing anything at such a high res.?????????
what the hell are you talking about...... you wouldn't want to play a game that big?
Or you think that that high of rez isnt............?
But the actual difference between going AMD + ATI or Intel + Nvidia is not distinguishable by the human eye when playing actual games????
POST IT.
"Beauty is only is only skin deep..." said the AMD/ATI fan. "Blah..Thats just what ugly people say..." said the Intel/Nvidia fan. You want price / performance, use the dollar menu..
Dreadknot not Approved...
PS the point of a 1000 watt or higher PSU is for upgradeing. you never know what you will put in your system later on. and the fact that a good 1000w PSU is only $100 more to futrue proof your PC

"Beauty is only is only skin deep..." said the AMD/ATI fan. "Blah..Thats just what ugly people say..." said the Intel/Nvidia fan. You want price / performance, use the dollar menu..
Again you think everyone is willing to throw away money like you instead of getting good value for money.
the Dreadknot not aproved.......................was stateing that becuase your intire post wast clipped from the internet...and you use one of the worst sites for INFO as backup...... hence not Approved.
you all dont seam to understand .... most of you have little or no exp with Tech.
and yet your posting bad adive to people that are looking for help....they take that shit to heart.... are you so sure of your Back ground that somone should spend there hard earned money based of your info alone????????
....when most of it is clipped from online...and you have not run the shit yourself....
you playing with peoples money and if your wrong you are screwing people.
your another one....POST you PC specs

Assuming you only need the box (and not a monitor or other stuff), don't spend more than about 1000 USD (I'm too lazy to convert that). Beyond what you can get for that, you're just going to be spending a lot of money to get very small improvements in performance. Whatever is "the best", in 6 months to a year there will be something better for half the price.
Save the rest for upgrades every year or so, always buying what's "second best" and you'll stretch your hardware $$ a lot further, and probably won't notice the difference.

im to lazy too use grammar or punctuation good
Dude the reason I quoted and responded to Myth's build was because that was the one I mostly agreed with (except the PSU on the sole provision that he stays single GPU).

Look at the center screen...that is what everyone else is seeing with a single display. The 2 side displays are what a single display user is missing.
