Most boring = any one of you average asian grinders. And also Wow. Its just as bad cause its a quest grinder...run here...run there....most of my time playing it was spent running...
Most enjoyable = Warhammer online. i Dont care what anyone sais i feel more human interaction with constant open rvr fields, public quests and scenarios.. Its true you have to find a good server and know when the peak hours are, and once you do and find non-stop pvp action its a blast.
my bost boring experience (not counting games i played less than a week) would have to be FFXI. Forced grouping and subclassless discrimination just arent my cup of tea. I loved the world and a few people I met in it, but the gameplay was just... BoRiNg.
the most fun I've had would have to be either Guild Wars or Diablo II: LoD. (yeah I know they both aren't "mmorpg" but they were multiplayer online and had stories ) They both allowed me to pick it up for an hour and accomplish something!
Most boring; imPerfect World International, leave brain at login grindfest. Second most boring; Sword of the boring grind while afk New World. SotNW only made second place as you can do other things while playing, such a sleep, go to work etc.
Least Boring by about 6000 hours, but maybe not considered an MMO; GuildWars
Most Boring-World of Warcraft...It was such a grindfest and lacked any real depth/storyline. How people practically pray to this thing I will never know.
Most Enjoyable- Guild Wars and SWG (pre-CU/NGE)....I know some will say GW is not an MMO and i wont restart that argument there but having played through all three chapters and the expansion, I can say I have really enjoyed the storylines. While I still feel Factions wasnt fully integrated into the continual storyline the way it should have, Nightfall's storyline more than made up for it and Eye of the North was the perfect conclusion to Propheses. As for SWG, It was a great game till some moron decided that the CU and NGE were good ideas, essentially killing a promising and fun game. While it still exsists and I give the current devs a few props for trying to fix the mess, I fear it will never recover and will fully die when SWtOR comes out..even if its bad, it will still be the final nail in SWG's coffin..
Most Boring: Eve by far.. there has been no other game that I have tried where I don't have to play it to get ahead. Add into the insane travel times and this tops the list.
Honorable Boring Mention: WoW, played it for a couple weeks and found nothing really redeeming. The toons move so sloooow that it bored me to tears.
Most Fun: City of Heroes. You have to love the pace of the game as well the sheer volume of character options.
Most boring- Eve followed by PotBS. Most fun- Pre-CU SWG followed closely by WoW
I love the fact that Eve is taking the "most boring game" category by a landslide.
There are 4 or 5 guys in the Eve forums who will argue with their last breath that if you find the game boring, it's because you are a stupid. They do a good job over there of burying any criticism of the game under the personal attacks they respond with. Of course, they will only post in the Eve section where they have a captive audience of trial players and fellow fanboys, because outside that specific sub-forum, general consensus is that the game is a snooze-fest.
there are plenty of games i do enjoy, and when I discuss those games I can admit to their shortcomings. I enjoy WAR, but I don't try to pretend that there aren't real problems with the game. Pretty much any issue that you see people post over and over about the game is accurate. Those Eve fans will even defend in game currency sales rather than admit that there is one little thing about the game that is less than perfect.
Well, if the fact that I find Eve the most boring MMO on the market makes me stupid an d immature, at least I am in good company.

It's too bad you don't like EvE, it's really a great game. I definitely don't think that people who find EvE boring are stupid - I mean it's a video game, right? How smart could you possibly have to be? But, I do think that generally speaking, to enjoy EvE requires a little more maturity than the average MMO. That's my direct experience at least. I could go over all of the reasons for this but I think we'd all agree that proverbial "dead mule" has been beaten enough.
Anyways, I wouldn't feel discouraged about posting comments in the EvE forum if I were you. Criticism of a game is a very good way of making it better. However, I would say that taking the steep learning curve involved in playing EvE (which, is pretty much common knowledge in the MMO world by now), comments that are uneducated flames are generally met pretty harshly. I wouldn't say that any of the other game forums act any differently though.
You know judging byt he replies Sony has to be complete idiots to have destroyed a game with such a following as SWG. Makes you wonder why they even bother staying in the MMORPG business?
The most fun I ever had playing a game was on Everquest 2. This was because I felt like I made a difference in my group (I played a healer). Most boring was either EVE or Vanguard when I hit level 45.
most boring - WoW - and this is not a bash on WoW....just thought it held your hand too much and got kinda boring after a bit killing 10 of each kind of boar
The adventure my guild and I had is still close to hearts. We've enjoyed our time there and now that SWG EMU is coming out, most of us are gathering to join it back.
EVE-Online is my close second but the social interaction in EVE still lacks.
Most boring MMO: Pirates of the Burning Sea, Vanguard, WOW
All were fun in the first few days and then quickly became boring. It was the first time I ever had to do gathering quests, courrier missions and worse of all, 5 hours raid for nothing. Pirates looked amazing and then when it came out, it was borderline pathetic. Vanguard had it all and failed to deliver...

Im going back to the OP instead of all the flame war crap.
Eve has to be the worst mmo to play to date. the game consists of you being a ship and your avatar being a type of AI. your avatar waits in RL time for a skill you get from a book, is learned, in space. you kill ships to finish quests and to make money. when you have skills after several months, to get to do end game, you kill more ships!!! just these ships are other players. and thats the game... there isnt anything else you do. sure there is side stuff like making a corp and mining and crafting, but its there just to do 1 thing, kill ships.
As the OP asked, this game makes me feel like i have to push myself to play it.
My opinion on the fun MMOs are WoW(pre bc) DAoC and AC back in the day.
Still waiting on a space MMO like Earth & Beyond stepped up a notch or 2. (flushes EA down the toilet for being like SOE)

EvE: 31
WoW: 26
Not quite a landslide tho. =P
And right here is another example of how messed up the fanbois and haters are on this forum.
I don't really enjoy WoW but i would have to be a complete asshole to say its the most boring MMO i have ever played same with Eve. Majority of those people that listed WoW or Eve as most boring are clearly forum warriors on the attack. these people never give up, they attack a game hoping to sway players from one game to another. It's sad actually.
There's a reason I don't come to these forums as much anymore.
Since Blizzard is the ONLY mmorpg game company who focused on game play value, it is the only one that actually gets played for longer periods of time. Hence the 11.500.000 million people paying for F U N . The dudes that say the opposite are further proof they lost every touch with reality and RL fun. It's the kind of people who think mmorpg's are food or a overhyped singer. Just as if a 200 pound 35 year old mummy's child living in the basement could even define the word "fun" in life.

This argument has NEVER been used before, you'd be the first! Zorndorf is truly an original thinker. To imagine, not one person in this thread has uttered this amazingly well thought out idea that because a lot of people like it, any opinions otherwise are wrong. Not only are these opinions wrong, but having them puts you in the stereotype of a fat 35 year old who just doesn't know what FUN is.
Oh wait, it's been said already... on the first page of the thread even... and the argument has already been countered with logic instead of rabid fanboyisms, who woulda thunk?
I'm not going to waste my time with this, if you actually wanted to debate instead of just look dumb you would've read the first page at the very least.
Let me put things in a different perspective since it seems that if we think WOW if boring, we lost touch with reality.
First, WOW has a great storyline and it looks pretty good when you're playing it. The music is actually really good and the art direction is great for those that are into that kind of things. However, for a person like me, the game is not too far from being depressing and boring.
Now saying that I lost touch with reality is basicaly saying that if I don't like Mcdonalds, I lost touch with reality.
Mcdonald is probably the biggest food franchise in the world, we're talking a multi national food corporation here. However, who the hell is going to tell you that Mcdonald is the BEST and most tastiest restaurant of all?
Probably no one.
WOW is the same thing... It's a Mcdonald of MMO. It's great looking, easy to get into, good music, intuitive gameplay and basicaly, perfectly made for anyone that never played an MMO in their life. It's great for that, it's a good introduction game...
Now take a game like EVE... Now we're talking about a 200$ vino bottle where 80% wouldn't make the difference from a baby duck wine and a Merlot 1986, grand crue. Also, wine is an aquired taste and takes, patience, time, dedication and money to appreciate. You might like it at first but the more you drink it, the more you'll love it. I can make a difference from an Italian wine or French wine just by smelling it. It became a passion...and something that I actively wanted to be good at.
EVE is the same thing... you can't just log in and solo. You need to learn to properly play in order to appreciate it's qualities.
A good and FUN MMO shares the qualities of a good Wine. You want to learn how to play, you want to play it for a long time, you want to enjoy it's full flavours. Also, if we so strongly defend EVE, it's simply because we love the game, we became attached to it.
Now that's just me but I bet i'm not alone here that has that definition of FUN.

This is probably the most thought out post in this thread yet. I agree with you that EVE is a game you need to learn to like. That, however can take some time and most players patience (mine included) just can't cope with this.
Worst "MMORPG" ever, Second Life. It was clunky, it had no meaning, it had pink unicorns doing freaky stuff to people. The graphics were crap (beyond ignoring them), it made no sense to me, and it was simple, horrible. $1000USD for an island? Right, go shove it where the sun don't shine my friends.
Secondly, it would have to be... Probably World of Warcraft. I actually had no issue with the lore, story, or well, now that I think about it, even the visual style. But it was the slow pace of gameplay and uninspired quests with somewhat bad humor with some of them (not so much bad as naughty mind you but just... bad). If the slow gameplay didn't turn me off, the community certainly did. By far, one of the worst MMO communities in existence.
I can't pick one best MMORPG, I can pick three though.
Tabula Rasa - It has a sci-fi military setting complete with great graphics, action, awesome in-depth lore, some of the best (most creative) publicity stunts, and a pretty captivating story.
Lord of The Rings Online - I think of it as... an advanced WoW. The graphics are far better, the crafting is superior to WoW's, the lore is crafted better, there's a story to follow although it's not linear at all (I know kinmates who've still not gotten past the first few chapters and are at the level cap), and the armor designs are amazing. Along with the various music and outfitting systems in place.
EVE Online - A feat in gaming. connecting an average of 50,000 players, on one server cluster, playing together. Making a galaxy so large that it boggles my own mind to think of it's size (or traversing it!). And creating a game that really captures the player, almost putting him into a second life. Making you pay attention at all times, home or not, to know what's going on. A war started with your corp? You need to know, you end up emailing some corp mates and having a quick meeting on your lunch (being, of course, this is out of the norm and the warring corp is far superior). The politics involved, the risk involved (with losing hundreds of hours of work). It's a game that's broken bonds that people, at once, thought strong as steel.

The early days of SWG were the most fun for me. The most boring game is a toss up. Second Life is probably the most boring, but Archlord was a close 2nd.
I'd also go as far to say any F2P mmo is also very boring.
Most fun: CoH- I just LOVED leaping all over the city. Playing a superhero was just plain fun. Wish the mission system was more fun.
Least fun: I could put a whole slew of Asian free-to-play games here. I can't even remember the names of most of them. Maple-Story is a good choice. A 2d side-scroller? really? an MMO? NOT!

Just about every MMO in existence has been boring and a waste of time except for in this order:
Most FUN: FFXI followed by Diablo 2
Least FUN: EQ2, UO, VSoH
Most fun: CoH- I just LOVED leaping all over the city. Playing a superhero was just plain fun. Wish the mission system was more fun.
Least fun: I could put a whole slew of Asian free-to-play games here. I can't even remember the names of most of them. Maple-Story is a good choice. A 2d side-scroller? really? an MMO? NOT!
