Now about the videos we see that "claim a huge siege" when you look at em you can clearly see there is in no point in time huge blobs of people fighting eachother, we only see prob 30 people tops at any given time. sad indead
definately more than 30 tops... game has its flaws but its gone alot forward just in a month
Finally some vids with 100+ numbers. Do you have by any chance any vids from famed 2000+ battles?
This is the essence of troll. Claim something you read somewhere or just made up without even bothering to lookup an original source or googling it, or searching on youtube. The essence of troll is a combination of naivety and ignorance.
Btw, there are no more fanbois anymore, there are only players.
Does it really hurt that much to know that Darkfall is breaking records for large battles in the fantasy MMO genre? all manually aimed as well, no sticky targeting or gimmick special attacks as a substitute either.
Where on page 2, Tasos says: "About massive battles, we don't know of another game that gets even close to supporting the size of battles Darkfall is supporting. We've said before that Darkfall's small skirmishes are considered massive battles in other games. Several hundred players on each side are an everyday occurrence, and we recently had over 2 thousand players fighting in the same area".
Now I want to hear you apologize, please.
lmao. why are you quoting something that proves my point?
i called you out about saying you've "finally" seen some vids now with 100+ players onscreen when they have been out for weeks.
"This is the essence of troll. Claim something you read somewhere or just made up without even bothering to lookup an original source or googling it, or searching on youtube. The essence of troll is a combination of naivety and ignorance."
The way I understood it is that you questioned my statement that 2000+ battle really happened. Maybe there were vids of 100+ people fighting on one screen, I haven't seen them. And I am not a huge fan of the game to start actively searching for those vids. If someone posts something interesting about DF, I will enjoy watching it. But I wont start searching for it on my own.
Trolls like you like to nitpick into details or make illogical assumptions: "he said something bad about something I like - hes a troll", "he never played the game - he cant post anything negative", "the game sold 10000-20000 copies and ran into infrastructure problems - claim smashing success because the game is sold-out, call anyone else who disagrees a troll". You sir are a troll, you hide behind your positively charged sentences and pretend you like the game, but in fact you are here to damage it. People like you discourage people like me from ever considering to buy the game.
There you have it. I rarely call someone specific a troll, but I think you qualified. Troll is not someone who posts negative things. Troll is someone who posts controversial, inflammatory, irrelevant or off-topic messages in an online community with the primary intent of provoking other users into an emotional response or to generally disrupt normal on-topic discussion.
EDIT: speeling erorers
I am the type of player where I like to do everything and anything from time to time.
You mean Tasos made it up? Because that;s where that 2000+ number comes from.
No, you are mistaken. The number comes from an incident where two simultaneous seiges occured on one of the subcontinents (Yssam), (which Tasos called an area).
No that does not make any sense. The whole point of Tasos answer was to reply to the the question "Throne Rage of the Stasis Alliance said, "Lack of varied and meaningful ingame political options, a credible list of city siege features that actually mirror what happens ingame and lack of server optimization for massive siege warfare."
Read carefully what he said: "About massive battles, we don't know of another game that gets even close to supporting the size of battles Darkfall is supporting. We've said before that Darkfall's small skirmishes are considered massive battles in other games. Several hundred players on each side are an everyday occurrence, and we recently had over 2 thousand players fighting in the same area"
Meaning massive battles with several hundred on each side are an everyday occurances, and just recently they had at least one battle of 2000+ fighting in the same area. Now, the whole continent cannot be one area becuase that, frankly, does not make sense. An area around the city makes a lot more sense.
Perhaps it doesn't make sense to you, but as I was there, it makes perfect sense to me...

Are you saying that PvP fights all around the continent are considered as one big battle?
I am the type of player where I like to do everything and anything from time to time.
Clearly I am not a real Darkfall player because I have good performance. But hey, at least I don't sit on the official forums for games I hate hoping to find something to post about on the MMORPG.com forums. I think after reading this post I will cancel my account and have my entire guild cancel as well. Some random guy on the MMORPG.com forums who doesn't have the game told me it doesn't run well.
Are you saying the person who posted on the official darkfall forums with his performance issues is not a realy darkfall player?
Are you saying that a couple of people with hardware issues posting on official forums means the entire player-base is having problems?
Most people are experiencing good performance in large 100+ battles. There are numerous videos that show this.
Do you know how system debug goes?
IF a programme is running without reports of bugs, its not bug-free. Its bug hidden not yet encountered. One instance of bug occuring is one manifest of the hidden issues. Tackle it as soon as it surfaces, that is responsible code maintenance. Now, I know why I have so must distaste about your way of argument.
One report of hardware issue = one hardware configuration incompatible and it might mean one whole set of design not comprehensive enough or tolerant enough. Your claims that most people are experiencing good performance sounds old.
What I find funny is how all these people try to find all the things wrong with Darkfall, as if Darkfall was relevant in the grand scheme of MMO's. Here's a newsflash to all, as far as the devs and playerbases of the main MMORPG's (WoW, EQ2, LoTRO, WAR) are concerned, Darkfall and it's community don't even register on the radar as something they care about or what they would play. To me, I look at Darkfall in the same category as something like a little niche game that appeals to a couple thousand, but has not the polish, experience or community as any of the major games out there.
While no one believe DF has a big future, at least I do not, DF embodies some of the utmost unique fiascos ever conceivable for an MMO launch. It is taken purely as an example of how bad things can go and what we can learn from it. Sometimes the small ones are interesting points of reference for studies, as the bigger and better companies already stop the ridiculous mistake right from start. Do you believe Blizz or whatever would allow a limited 1 server launch with an ordering window randomly opened a few minutes ever few days or weeks? THAT, my friend, is what we are learning, "here look, this does not work, this is a rare test and confirmation that this form of launch is not good for building up public faitn".
Why else do we need to draw samples from all over the country to perform profile studies, why not just focus on the first family or the cabinet?
Yes we heard it many times by fanboys that Darkfall can host 200 to 400 people battles with little to NO lag. Many of us trolls questioned this and they claimed it be good programming and how darkfall brought MASSIVE back to mmorpgs. Sounds to good to be true doesnt it. So why not check out what real darkfall players actually have to say about this Lagree affair. forums.darkfallonline.com/showthread.php
read the 1st post and the rest if you want. but we see how the op does everything in his power to try to get some good fps to defend his city from attackers. aprox 100 in the fight dropping his fps to 1-2 fps at LOW settings. Other claim their ping flys out the roof and its unplayable. Hmm this really questions the fanboys credability. comon why lie? why do people even have to basicly shut everything to low, including sound to partake in a battle at medicore fps.
Now about the videos we see that "claim a huge siege" when you look at em you can clearly see there is in no point in time huge blobs of people fighting eachother, we only see prob 30 people tops at any given time. sad indead
Three (3) questions for you.
1. Do you plan on buying the game? If no, then why do you care?
2. Do you own the game? If no, then why do you care?
3. Are you playing the game and experiencing these problems? If no, then why do you care?
Just curious.. I mean, if you don't plan on buying the game, ever, then what's the point of asking questions about it? That is what you are doing right?? Asking a question? (I think it's soemthing like: Is this guy right?)
A patient is terminally ill, a few doctors and interested people sits around investigating.
A fanatic family member hurls his body over and
1. Do you plan on living in this dying man's body? If not (not "if no"), (no "then") why do you care?
2. Do you own the dying man? .... same, it should be, If not, why do you care.
3. Are you terminally ill and having the same problems? ... same
Next thing you do, you should shut down all national or international centres of studies as they are not studying problems immediately happen inside their own kitchen.

oh and the last hidded 4th question you did at the end.
Perhaps it doesn't make sense to you, but as I was there, it makes perfect sense to me...
Are you saying that PvP fights all around the continent are considered as one big battle?
The "continent" was Yssam, which is actually one of the sub-continents.
The locations of the sieges Tasos was referring to, in his 2000 statement, were very close to one another. Likely happening on the same node, if you understand that term, related to server infrastructure.
He is not saying that, "PVP fights all around the continent are considered as on big battle", at all.

While I do agree with you, I guess my point was a major developer would never make these kind of decisions at launch. These growing pains that Darkfall is going through are significant to look at, but at the same token they are also issues that an established developer would not be faced with. There would be more funding to launch additional servers, for example.
I hope the game succeeds, because you hate to see any game fail but lets be honest here. After the dust settles and they work out all their problems, most people are just not going to care. There is just not enough players out there that are attracted to this type of sub-genre (hardcore pvp).

Yep.. just another troll. You have no interest in buying the game.. why the hell do you care about the problems it has? They do not affect you one bit. Darkfall could punch all of the users in the face during log in.. but.. get this.. it's not your problem.. so why do you care?

Way to troll it up.. get a life dude.
This is bullshit. That he has no intention of buying automatically robs him of the right to talk about it? What sort of logic are you using?
He has exercised judgment and decided that DF is not worth his money. He proceeded to talk with us about his views. There is no contradiction there. Fact is, I for one, want to listen to his views.
Why are you so insecured, as to try to stop people from talking? You are trying to stop him from telling us how bad HE SEES the game DF is? You want to keep telling us that DF is good, and you now want to stop people from telling otherwise. I wonder seriously your intention here, to market the failed product named DF?
Never mind, your words lost all credit. You and what you try to say will be subjected to heavy suspicion, the product your recommended subjected to heavy suspicion.

The more crazy AV is, the more fanatic the fans, but then the fewer left are there as fans. The more people desert, the lesser the fanbase, the more despotic AV needs to retain their apparent stance. Does this not look funny.
I begin to see DF more of a cult than a game. I remember there are cults in which people torture themselves to prove themselves to a higher being. I think DF fans need to go thru mental persecution to feel like martyrs. They do not need to play the game. Just be labelled as DF fans and talk crap, and receive general despise. Then they feel they have sacrificed to the great AV god. They do not even need to sub to the game. After all, only a few thousand can sub to it, so when they cannot play the game, they pretend they are playing and start rampaging message boards, seeking to be persecuted.

Did you read about his qualms?? go read the OP before you attack me.
Read my post history then come talk to me. You don't know what you are complaining about. None of the issues Darkfall has affect you in anyway. He only posts here. He doesn't post the problems that WoW, WAR, AOC, EQ, EQ2, AC, AC2, AO, TB, ECT have. You don't see anything wrong with this??
You and mcquad are perfect for each other. Two blind haters with as much information as a two year old.. judging a game they don't plan on playing.
So, since this problem doesn't affect you what so ever, go away. You won't have to worry about lag in massive battles. You won't have to worry about Queue times. You don't have to worry about ANY of the issues the game has because they do not affect you.. Some people..

Oh really?
That games does not affect him or me so we shut up? Ok the same logic, that the OP talking about his feeling is none of your damn business, so you can pack up and go.
Since when you are the one giving the marching orders here? If you really have a say, ban or lock the thread. I noticed you don't. So sit tight read and cry. Calling us 2 years old, without checking what authority you have and asking us to leave? Last time I checked, you are as important or unimportant as any of us here, and we all talk on equal ground.
As I have reiterated, DF is a unique case study in MMO, no other publisher has ever tried the publication strategy of 1 server limited release. I like to see how this soap opera goes, and maybe learn something unique in the process. I welcome all opinion and chat, except your type. If you have something contributing, I will still read. If you feel the desperate need to defend DF, come up with something constructive, not name calling or marching orders. That's won't work.

LOL.. Read and cry?? YOU ARE THE ONES BITCHING ABOUT A GAME YOU AREN'T EVEN PLAYING. HOW **** CAN YOU BE????
The crap that happens in the game, doesn't affect you. It doesn't affect the OP. What don't you get? You talk about me defending a game.. When have I defended it? Meanwhile, you're defending a poster who's only interest is BASHING the game that they have never played. It's like someone telling that you won't like Porshes because a guy someone that owned one, blew a tire.
You can't base your opinion on a game from someone who's never played it. I guess that part of common sense is lacking in your department.
Me and four friends got ganked by one other fella. It was just as in Firstblood 2. He tricked us into a old ruin, made us split up and then took us one by one.
That is somewe should talk about here instead.
He did even send a tell later, and we talked for sometime. He wanted to give us lessons in DF warfare. I told him to go and *¤#" himself*
*No i didnt. I added him to my friendlist. We are friends now.

My friend, it is perfectly all right for MMORPG.com forum members to visit the Darkfall threads and question the Game, Aventurine and fanbois. Holding them to their statements.
There are many games within these forums that I will never buy, that I visit.
Please don't discourage people from investigating and getting the facts... even if means that fanbois have to be on full time alert status and make up things to defend their ignorance.
A broken game effects us all...! Because investors and would-be Greek salesmen see lemmings, that don't question anything and beleive they can fool people into making a great game, while they close the doors and walk away with the cash!
Perhaps you've never seen it done before, or your ignorant of other past Lead Dev's doing these exact same things.. who knows, but the rest of us have and already know DFO's fate! So, please don't try to paint a pretty picture when the overwhelming majority of MMORPG have already voted and declared Darkfall a flop!
"the overwhelming majority of MMORPG have already voted and declared Darkfall a flop!"
Wich have not even played the game! They voted about it! So it seems.
The problem with DF is that it is not a flop gamewise. The only problem is that Aventurine have not done any hype. If Aventurine had hyped DF as much as Funcom hyped AoC...it would be ok. Noone would care.
If this were just a regular flop, we would know it now. But something is wrong. Even when millions people scream "a flop" the people playing just goes "what?". All my friends that tryed AoC said it was a flop. Same with WAR. But DF, thay all play everyday since they got a copy.
My point is that its not a flop. We have more content and action in DF then many other MMOs combined. A stable cliant. A evil community. That is not signs of a flop.
Does it really hurt that much to know that Darkfall is breaking records for large battles in the fantasy MMO genre? all manually aimed as well, no sticky targeting or gimmick special attacks as a substitute either.
My friend, I'm not going to let that statement stand!
I've been playing Darkfall since a week after it's release and I have been in some major battles, but nothing even remotely equaling what Tasos has suggested! Everyone knows he was lying and just trying to quell criticism of competency. He hid those comments behind technical jargon, but the simple fact remains. Nobody has seen battles that large, Avnturine's net-code wouldn't be able to handle it. Just like they cannot handle 500 people in a starting town.
The larger battles are typically 40 vs 50 people and can happen 3-4 times a night all over the map, depending on how hard your pushing. That sometimes spills over to a massive brawl of several factions (clans/guilds) making bigger chaotic battles like'n to 60 vs 50 vs 45, etc. The Friday night Faction Wars are played out all over the map and you can easily have 120 vs 150 person sieges, that also spill over into larger battles. Ironically, almost nobody can handle the server or video lag once your approach 400 people on the screen..!
What you DO find is many different fights within a 10 minute run of each other, as larger battles tend to get spread all out, because people cannot handle the lag. So you can have two very intense battles (150 vs 140) & (90 vs 110) going on, right around the corner from each other... with some 500 people spread out over a given couple of chunks. But those same things were happening 5 years ago in DAOC, aswell..!
So, please don't piggy-back on Tasos ludacrist statements and defend a statement you know is false. Simply, because your trying to be coy. Even players were laughing at Tasos statements... like many are at you! (For failing to be taken seriously in your attempt to mislead the general populace).
Your statements are false! You have not seen a 300 vs 300 battle, let alone anything bigger! Even with an outstanding rig, the gameplay is just a slideshow!
Hype?
My friend, Darkfall was one of the most hyped pre-releases I have known! Comercials on Television is not needed. They did have 300,000 people sign up for beta, uno?
Just like any social network, those 300k represented countless other guilds and players. Because those who sign up do so to try a game's potential, then report back to their coven.
The bottom dropped out from under Darkfall when a week before it's unsheduled release, Tasos made a quiet comments that player housing and some other things were not "in game". That is all the 300k people needed to hear to validate beta testers concern that not only is this game not ready, but the game itself wasn't finished as Tasos had touted.
We knew that wearable cloaks wasn't in game, NPC guards, robust crafting system, that guild emblems weren't in the game..etc.
At THAT point, it was all to clear that Tasos had told one too many white lies and the concerns & fears of beta testers, were indeed valid. What was left of the fanbase was those who didn't care and just wanted to try the game, those guilds who had no choice but move to darkfall and stragglers who like the concept, but felt that Aventurine wasn't a bust and could have a few big patches and fix thsoe things.
So Daarco, going from 300k fans, down to being the laughing stock of the MMORPG industry and having 10k subscribers... whom are having daily issues with stability, memory leaks, hacking, broken systems and features. That is run by a company that is in financial trouble and does not have the money to open a second server, or even enough people to sustain two servers...
...is a flop!
It doesn't matter if you like the game or enjoy playing it. Horizons and D&L both closed their doors (IE: Flopped) and there was still retards paying and playing and defending the game.... as the doors were being ordered shut by a Judge!
Of the 10million people who play these types of games, Darkfall has the least amount of interest and fans... or subscribers, than any MMORPG in existstance..!
...it's a flop!
Warhammer and AOC are considered a flop, because they were expected to have 600k subscribers and hold that for a few years. So the term flop is illustrative of those games not as succesfull as they could've. Darkfall on the other hand is a flop in the truest sense, because it won't be able to keep it doors open for much longer and there is basically nobody willing to pay for this turd of a game..! 6k retards don't count!
Specially retarded individuals that claim Darkfall has more content or "action" than most MMO combined.
This is an outdated census of all the clans in the Major alliances in the game right now. If you add them all you will get over 9000 people (), and that spreadsheet does not even include dozens of major well-known clans like Murder Herd which has well over 100 people or even the entire "Afghanistan" alliance of TheMercs (the ship owners), not to mention dozens of smaller clans that most people have never even heard off. For example as a result of a little research, I found out that there are more than 7 Japanese-only clans only 2 of which are on this chart.
One could argue that many of those have quit the game and that would be true to an extent but keep in mind that extra members may be taking up bind spots at the clan stone and make the roster searches on the browser interface slower, as well as the fact that it costs nothing to kick a member. Especially in the case of Hyperion Kingdom, every clan is taxed weekly according to the numbers of its members and therefore keeping extra dead weight seems like a dumb idea.
And of course let's not forget the thousands of solo players that do not belong to any clan for whatever reason.
My guestimate of active subscribers would be at least 20 thousand as of right now.
And on the subject of total people buying and being exposed to the game I'm confident that it would be a bare minimum of 30k considering the number of butthurt ex-fanbois or misguided carebears that cancelled their subscriptions.
Now, on the subject of the magnitude of the battles I reckon you don't read much of clan discussion. The 2k number refers to a series of sieges that happened on Yssam. For everyone's information I have to add that in those sieges the alliances that took part are the Hyperion Kingdom + Yssam VS Coalition of the Chilling + Stasis + Dusk + Death.
That's 2287 vs 4000 according to the spreadsheet. And that's not including several seperate unallied or mercenary clans that took part. Obviously most of them, especially on the CotC side did not get involved or where not even online, but suddenly 2000 participants for a planned event does not sound like an impossibility.
Now obviously all these people where not within viewing distance of each other since it has been demonstrated quite a few times that when the numbers a person views exceed a few hundreds then half people crash and most of the rest have considerable lag, with only a minority of people that can play normally.
But on the other hand nobody has the evidence to dismiss the posibility that all these people fought within what the server considers a "Zone".
So to sum this up, nobody claims that big battles are smooth, both client and server need tons of optimizations. And Tasos' statement can obviously be considered misleading since it wasn't a 2000 people battle in the LotR sense of the phrase but still potentially true in some way, if 2000 people actually occupied and fought on the same server "Zone".

Hype? Have you ever seen a ad for DF? What fans and people did have nothing to do with Aventurine. Im talking company generated hype. Not fan based hype.
And yes, DF have issues. Still i think DF is far more complex then your regular WoW-clone. But the positive sides does weight over. You dont get naval combat, mounted combat and realtime combat combined in any other MMO. You spoke about AC did the same in 2002......that was not real time combat. And if it was not, it have nothing to compare to DF. I have heard that Planetside did something similar (or better).
Right now im waiting for Fallen Earth. But until then we "retards" have no other MMO to play. Its not as we have a choice. If you name one other MMO that gives something close to DF gameplay, i will subscribe to it tomorrow.

(let's see what response I'll get for this)
Normally, I try and stay out of the flame wars, and plan on continuing to do so (though I may not succeed here), and understand, this is not to flame, but simply to get some clarity:
You argue that Anvil is throwing around numbers with no evidence to back them up. Now you provide a google spreadsheet as "evidence". Now, bear in mind, anyone can go online and make a google spreadsheet, it really isn't that hard. Without true, hard numbers from AV, how can this spreadsheet be proven as something factual and true? If I were to flame, that would be my first point of attack, and it is a valid concern. How do we know some rabid fan didn't just arbitrarily come up with this list and some numbers (people have done stranger and more inane things in this world)? Until hard, proven numbers can be given, all of this is just conjecture on all sides. Even using the Xfire numbers would be sketchy at best, because everyone playing DF would need to be using xfire for a complete look at the whole picture.

definately more than 30 tops... game has its flaws but its gone alot forward just in a month

Heres the link.
www.mmorpg.com/gamelist.cfm/game/4/feature/2931/Tasos-Responds-to-Alliance-Leader-Issues.html

Three (3) questions for you.
1. Do you plan on buying the game? If no, then why do you care?
2. Do you own the game? If no, then why do you care?
3. Are you playing the game and experiencing these problems? If no, then why do you care?
Just curious.. I mean, if you don't plan on buying the game, ever, then what's the point of asking questions about it? That is what you are doing right?? Asking a question? (I think it's soemthing like: Is this guy right?)

You seem to be throwing all these numbers around about subscribers and magnitude of battles with ease and no evidence to back them up.
Let me add some evidence in the discussion:
spreadsheets.google.com/lv
(let's see what response I'll get for this)

Flame on.
