I strongly disagree with this, and am honestly shocked to see anyone write such a thing about Spellborn.  It's a brilliant, innovative, and finely-crafted game.  Contrary to this poster's opinion, I would say that it feels like it was lovingly and carefully designed over a long period of time by a team of truly creative professionals.

It is very European though, and very much "outside the box" in its design principles and its gameplay.  So not everyone will like it, I grant that.  But personal preferences aside, the above poster's comments ring very false to me.

Agreed! In fact I would consider the character creator to be one of the weaker points of the game since the character models are all proportioned in such strange ways. The gameplay though is fantastic. I don't think that guy ever got past the first zone which contains a lot of boring kill quests.

Champions online is not even "finished" yet.

This is an English forum and the game isn't released in any English speaking countries. I would be genuinely surprised if anyone posting in this thread was living in a released country. How many of the people saying Aion live in a country where the game is released? I would hazard a guess at... none.

And if its not released then its not ready yet. There is still a lot to do to get it ready for the NA and EU release so its also not "finished" just like Champions.

The difference is that the Champions beta testers are still restricted by their NDA so they can't talk about how awesome the character creator is.

I disagree with all your points Aganazer

Every forum in the internet is a global forum, even if it is not intended to be, for many reasons, english is the easier language to use in a global internet ambient

Yes, there are people from Asian countries by your "side here"...

Why not see the Massive aspect of MMOs as a global and non regionalist aspect?

You cant compare a game in alpha with a game released even if it was not released in the place you live in.

    That's fine, you can disagree.

This web site has it listed as "Development" so I'll go with that over your opinion.

Just look at The Chronicles of Spellborn on MMORPG.com. Its still listed as "Beta Testing" even though its released in a few countries. This has been brought to the attention of the web site administers on numerous occasions but they have their reasons for considering the game to be in "Beta" rather than released. I agree with them and their decision.

I guess you don't, but don't think that there is a definitive answer like you're suggesting.

Oh, and the Americans and Euro folks who got to play Aion were doing so as part of the Chinese open beta. I would be surprised if they were able to subscribe right now at all. In fact the Korean subscription required a Korean cell phone as part of the game's subscription!

    Lets agree to disagree Aganazer.

But you are wrong about one point, it is pretty easy for americans and europeans to subscribe and pay to play Aion today , to tell the truth, I was in a group with two north americans and one european yesterday.

I dont know why you got the impression I was talking about the OB.

Funny thing is, I can still log on and play Aion right now, even though the beta is supposedly over and I haven't paid anyone a dime.

You can't compare CO with Aion, because I've got an aion character, who has a CO character? I've played with Aion's customization system, who has played with CO customization system?

    As simple as that.

sorry I have to disagree with you here.

Aion is released. It is actually a playable game regardless of whether or not someone in the West has an easy time getting it.

It's character creator may or may not go through changes by the time we get it but I don't think the genuine theory behind the character creator will change so drastically as to make it unrecognizable.

So I think including it in a thread asking "what the best character creator is?" is completely in the realm of disucssion.

Unless of course the thread was entitled "what's the best character creator for available western games" or "games that are only released in the west".

An MMO needs to grab you from the beginning to the end. So if it's a snooze in the beginning, obviously I stop playing. To me, that's dropping the ball big time. The way to keep subscribers is to get 'em while their characters' young.

Also... the tutorial (another important aspect of any game with a tutorial) was just running to a bunch of glowy spots... hella innovative if you ask me. That's the best they could do?

Anyways, if i cared more I'd go on the CoSB thread and post more but I don't. Opinions are opinions. You have yours... and I have mine. We just have different tastes is all.

Your opinion is understandable. There are some people who have these same sentiments. But these opinions are in the minority compared to most people who simply state TCoS has some of the best twitch combat out. Do you play a lot of FPS type games, because if not, this could be why your looking at it as a clunky type system. In all honesty though, the combat system is very well designed. Not only that but it is probably the most strategic combat out there, and different from your run of the mill MMO's. And don't take this as me putting down your opinion because I am not. I understand it word for word and as you stated it's yours. Try giving it a little time, especially with the 2 free subscription week event going on now, and by the end you may be changing your mind. A understand a game should grab you from the beginning, and they are working on this to improve not only the tutorial but also some of the responsiveness of the combat to make it even more fluid. A game should also not give you everything in the beginning also, because that says something about the end. If you remember AoC, the first 20 levels were brilliant. Then it just fell off for the most part. As a game company you have to decide what area's you want to put polish into that will make a player stay for the long haul. The amount of time it would take to make an MMO with just amazing gameplay from start to finish would never come out,a tleast not in ten years time. Way to much development money and cost. And no investor would invest in something that long term, sucks but true. I will say this though, TCoS has little little something to it that reminds me of the challenging days of EQ. No handholding through quests, you have to search and read. And the combat , as stated is very strategic. Give the 2 weeks a try, I can bet you will not be disappointed.

CoH has the same faces for everyone. They have different ones but everyone has a chance to get the same one you do so it doesnt make it a good char creator.

I find a lot of the time you really dont see a lot of facial detail in mmos so face sliders are kind of pointless.

Of games I have played CIty of Heroes has the best system.

For games in development i think APB is looking pretty amazing.

Hands down, City of Heroes takes the cake.

Back when I played, my Dad looked over my shoulder once and asked what I was doing when I was making a character, I told him and within a week he had bought the game just so he could make a bunch of different characters - he hardly even played.

What other MMO can do that?

It is awesome, Emver. It IS awesome indeed.

Should set a new standard and give the genre a much needed kick in it's monotonous balls!

And, best news is, it's not another " naked night-elf hunting, shaman humping, undead forsaken loving, uninspired animation having, "Epic" Uber gear farming MMO "
