Wow Warlock FTW WOW DK FTW Let the flaming commence.
im sorry . you must be a little confused.
i was asking for peoples input on necromancers,
not warlocks.
games that would have warlocks are, daoc, eq2 ,wow as far as i know of.
care to mention what game is the best for playing as a necromancer ?
There is no difference between Wow's Warlock and a Necromancer, they are practically one and the same. So I vote for Wow's Warlock.
I completely disagree. WoW's warlock is a warlock. It summons and controls demons.
Necromancers summon undead, control undead, create undead constructs, and speak with the dead. They deal with disease, poison, rot, and all related fields, but have nothing to do with the conjuration, binding, or control of demonic forces. They are completely different.
The only similarity is that they are pet classes with pets that can take orders. However, they are no more identical classes than a Paladin and a Warrior, or a Wizard and an Enchanter.
in my opinion the best mmo to have the necromancer as a playable class is everquest 2. allthough i do hope that will change over the years if they ever make an exspansion to warhammer online and introduce the vampire counts and that one of the classes from the army would be itself a necromancer. neco was spose to be necro
I liked it when they changed from the peusedo necro that was conjuration based. It annoyed me a fair deal that I had to run around with a stinky insect or elemental as my pet. I had a good deal of fun bantering with the Mages in EQ, and there I was basically forced to play one. hah! Oh ironies.
The original necro in EQ 'round launch time was pretty good. You started out with Cavorting Bones, this brittle little skeleton that would fall apart from a sneeze. It was a very good representation of what a beginning necromancer should have control over. From there you went all the way up to conjuring a bloody spectre. That was some cool stuff.
Those were fun times, back in the day.
These days? Hmm..
I didn't stick with AoC long enough to find out what the necro was like, but from what I've read it sounds like an irritating pain in the cheeks.
Vanguard's necro had a good idea on paper, but the execution was dull and weak.
The Guild Wars necro was kind of cool. You could have a small army of undead and you have numerous spells that work very well for the necro. I haven't played that game in ages, but I would give it the nod as having the best Necro class these days.
The Well line of spells, the corpse explosions, the raising of undead from fallen foes, the different spell lines, the transfer of life to and from your character... all in all, it's a good representation of the necro class.
From all those on the list, I'd say Vanguard had the best necromancer.
But the best necromancer in an RPG is definitely Neverwinter Nights' necro. That game had it all covered: various undead servants like ghouls, spirits, skeleton, demons, sick spells like Finger of Death where your physically weak necromancer could kill an opponent with one finger poke from your undead arm. All kinds of negative energy spells, level drains, buffs that surround you with ghostly fog or bone armors, vampiric spells for leech life etc.
The spell system and the overall amount of spells in NWN series has so far been the best I've yet seen in any game.

see , here is where people are going wrong, just because both have a pet , and both are evil, dose not really mean both are the same ,, like if i were to say something stupid like , cowboys are indians , and ninjas are samuari . you see where im going with this ? its stupid to just say that.
a warlock is a warlock, nothing eles ....... and a necro is a necro
wow has never had a playable necro class
it would be like me saying the warlock from wow , is the same thing as the magus from warhammer online.,
it just dosent fit the description. and never will, no matter how you would like to bend it.
pluss take a look at the freaking name.. the question on this forum was . best mmo to play as a necro , not best mmo to play as something similar as a necro.
Age of Conan hands down simply the best for Necro lovers I feel the one thing they did right in the game. Now if they can do the rest of it, it would be one of the best mmo's out here.
Smarter than the average bear? That is assuming bears are smart.
Allmost all MMORPGs are useing the name, but there classes are fare from the the Necromanci - univers.
- my guess is that it is becuse that this " class " are more or less the most power full class in this universes, and are more a "solo god" and can therefor not me fully inplanted in this games, but the name cream - subcripstions
i've got the chance to play some aoc as a necro and i think they sorta did a good job with the class, im at lvl 19
my complaints about it though are pretty fair .
when sending a pet to attack a mob or npc , generally the npc/mob will focus on that target and not you
thus allowing you to do what ever . in aoc , if you want to have a npc focus on that pet . you have to use a buff that dose not last long enough imo that will hold agro . and has a long reuse time on it aswell
another thing that grinds my gears about it , are that the crowed controll abilltys dont last long enough or stick very long either
fear , snar, root, they dont seem to last long at all.
while in eq2 i could take my necro pet send him to fight a npc , and it would hold agro so i can do my thing. and if that mob were to come to me i knew my crowed controll abilltys would work for a decent amount of time
PS I have played EQ necro and WOW necro. Yes both summons pet and both drain some life and both use dots but thats about where the similiarites end. They don't play the same. Sorta like saying well this guy has an axe and armor and this guy has an axe and armor they are basically the same class.
WOW warlock though is a fun class and the only class I could level to max before I quit.

Guild Wars necro ftw! Been playing one for 31/2 years. I would say Diablo necromancer but you know...

Tried necros in most of the games mentioned..
But EQ wins.
You might not like it, but it just does

a necro in guild wars is amazing...they can finish levels with their minions and if you haven't seen them duo under with a monk then your missing out.
