Gotta say (as a founder who recently canceled his subcription) LOTRO was a big dissappointment for me. I was die hard until Moria came out, after that the game lost all its creativity IMO.
Playing WoW now. I'll stick with the best MMO (more content by far then any other MMO) until something totally fresh and new comes out. Until then WoW blows all outa the water whether all the WoW haters wanna beleive it or not. :-)

Prefer PvP play over PvE, thus all of the emphasis over the past few months on the PvMP aspect of LOTRO.
I think its you that needs to wake up. I don't even think you play the game, your just spouting out about your theory.
The only thing they have done for the move to the Asian market is translation. That's it. All the "Revamping" as anyone who players the game will tell you, is just a smoothing out of content such as the back and forth in the lower zones, reordering the "Flow" of quests, and hubs. Its been a breath of fresh air in contrast to what it was.
Your number 3 is a joke. It has to be. The only thing they have done to PvMP lately is fix what moria broke.
Basically, i am telling you you need to take off the tinfoil, and stop expounding your proof less theories as facts.Nothing in the game has been dumbed down, unless your idea of dummed down is: Removed tedium, needless time wasting, and unfun.
LMAO Honestly, I don't care whether you believe I play the game or not. As for 'MY theory', Steefel himself has discussed this issue in numerous interviews. I can tell that you follow the developements in the gaming industry quite closely. And I love your pic. I'll bet you've been sitting on that just hoping for an excuse to use it. That's about all I'll comment on with you since I don't discuss issues, nor argue, with morons and ostriches.

What issue is that. Do tell. Toss in some links while you are at it. or GTFO with your theorys.

Keep the updates coming Turbine!!! You'll need em to keep the die hard LOTRO fans around. I was a die hard until the Moria pile of crap was released LOL.
Im a founder and beta tester aswell and have stuck with LotrO ever since... And you know what? I think LotrO have never been better! Sure there are some major flaws in the game (such as missing raid content, and crafting not being good enough) and there are some features that I could live without. (such as quest helper) and there are stuff that needs more work like the housing. But they cant make everyone happy all the time but Turbine have been adding alot to the game and that we will get iconic places like Mirkwood and Dol guldur in free updates with a new kind of instances sounds great to me. When people whine about Moria I dont think they remember what the game was like before the expansion. Pretty much every part of SoA have been revamped since launch and that for a good reason.
Seems like you are just really upset about them adding a quest helper (that alot of people ahave been asking for) and blaming it on Asian release or WoW or whatver crap people always blame when devs are adding something new.. To me it seems you are the one with little experience with MMOs and otheer companies in the industry. Turn of the quest helper if you dont like it and be happy that more people will play LotrO because of this feature which meens Turbine gets more money and can make more content
Good GAWD. First off Papadam, I have been playing MMOs since 1999 with EQ beta and have been playing games online since 1989 in the days of BBS' and MUDs. I've played many games that included awesome housing like EQ2 and UO (and I understand that SWG has great housing as well), and the list of classics that I've played include AO, DAoC, AC, AC2, Tribes, and Second Life just to name a few. And you can add quite a few betas as well including both LOTRO's SoA beta & MoM's beta, EQ, EQ2, and closed beta for a major MMO currently which I cannot name due to the NDA. What are your credentials?
Good for you! So what? Compare LotrO to other modern MMOs and you will se how great work Turbine are doing. Housing is not the best in LotrO but most MMOs theese days dont even have housing. And we got it in a free update. I have played and followed most modern MMOs (Im not an old school MMO player)which it seems you havent.
Secondly, how did you get from my posts that I was whining about Moria? As I just stated, I beta tested MoM and absolutely love the expansion, which is by far the single best expansion for an MMO ever released IMO. It is the direction Steefel and Turbine has taken SINCE the release that has me up-in-arms. If you had bothered to read my posts with some comprehension, you would have seen that quite clearly. And where in either of my posts on this subject (or any of my posts any where for that matter since I do not put down a game that I have not played) did I ever mention WoW?
So what big changes have they made since the release of Moria? The only one you have mentioned before is the quest helper... My reading comprehension doesnt work with things that havent been written... 1 book update is not enough to show that Turibne are moving in another direction. They are making the game more accesible so more people can enjoy the game. Seems good to me.
Thirdly, how in God's name did you get "Seems like you are just really upset about them adding a quest helper " out of my posts? Again, your reading comprehension seems to be lacking. Of everything I'm upset about, the quest helper is probably the lowest on the list, if it is even on the list. But it does serve to illustrate the dumbing-down of the game. Three major issues that faced Steefel when the decision was made to open LOTRO to the Asian market was the fact that the players in that market...
See above ^^Moria was alot more challenging than anything in SoA so they are not dumbing down.
Do not like quests and features that require a lot of thinking to complete and/or that are time consuming. They prefer precise directions that leave no doubt as to where you need to go or do to complete the quest, thus the revamp of the Elf and Dwarf starter areas, the quest tracker, the faster timers on resource nodes, etc., etc. If you look at Moria you will se that the quest are alot harder than thoose SoA... Lothlorien was abit different because.. its Lothlorien. People didnt think Elf/Dwarf starting area was as good as Men/Hobbit so they made it better (and still ther are always whiners..)
Do not want nor appreciate world immersion features. The players in the Asian market play with one main goal - to level as fast as possible in order to get to the endgame and its subsequent loot/rewards/gear, thus the lowered experience needed for each level, MOBs have been adjusted down to make them easier to handle, the timers fit in here again, the just announced level cap increase barely six months after the last increase, the henchmen which will presumably alliviate the wait to complete instances if a player cannot find the needed players, and the Turbine stance that fluff is non-essential and therefore only warrants an occasional, at best, bone thrown to the players (the Yulefest was a prime example of the haphazard attitude and attention given to fluff), etc. The Level cap raise is probalby atleast 6 months away so isnt it abit early to start whine about it? I have said it before but THERE ARE NO HENCHMEN announced for LotrO. Theyve added alot of fluff, but not so much lately, I really liked the Maze and thought it was some great fluff!
Prefer PvP play over PvE, thus all of the emphasis over the past few months on the PvMP aspect of LOTRO.
There have been an emphasis on PvP the last months??? Are you kidding? All book 7 did was to bring some balance and bug fixes because PvMP was REALLY broken after Moria. Book 7 was all solo PvE content and that was the problem. This just proves you have no idea what you are talking about.
Lastly Papadam, how do you figure that "Pretty much every part of SoA have been revamped since launch"? The two starter areas have been revamped, a few areas have been added (besides those of the expansion of course), some quests have been added/fixed, and a few instances have either been added or adjusted. That hardly qualifies as "Pretty much every part of SoA have been revamped since launch."
Crafting had a big revamp, Most end-game instances have been revamped, Angmar have been revamped, PvMP have been revamped, Itemization have been revamped.. and so on. Im glad that Turbine is active and fixes all the bad desgin dession they did in the past. Now I just wish they step up and stop releasing buggy and exploitable content.
Geesh people. Wake up.
But reading your posts makes me so sleepy
If WoW = The Beatles and WAR = Led Zeppelin Then LotrO = Pink Floyd
I like LotRO, its my go-to fantasy MMO pretty steadily. MoM is just completely amazing. That Turbine developed the tech for MMOs and then used it for multiple projects is also a great move. Anything one team creates is easily ported to another game. Ie features from DDO and LotRO start in one and make their way over to the other over time. Its just smart business. 1 engine with the ability to make very different games.
That said because of the grindiness of feats and the slow pace of admittedly great content its not something I can just perma sub to. I play a month or two, then take a break and comes back a few books later. Which is fine for me since I have a stable of MMOs I like but not good for Turbine... well not as good since I do come back eventually.
I love LotRO as do millions of other players so they're obviously doing something right. Turbine keeps winning competitions with other industry leaders and even those among developers accross the gaming world. I'd say they've made some rather huge accomplishments. Some people cannot handle the success of others. I have a LotRO founders account and will continue to play the game so long as they cotninue to provide a place where I can immerse myself into the world Tolkien created. Kudos to Turbine for allowing me that priviledge.

I find i get most deeds (Feats as you incorrectly called them) as i play, sometimes, i have to take a look and maybe top off a requirement. Its really not that bad, i think some people are treating them like quests, and that is the mistake.

True. I've only ground out 1 deed so far, that I particularly didn't want to wait for (port to bree). all the others I've completed just by playing. didn't even know I was working towards them, just dinged as I went along.

Millions? Interesting interpretation ...
I'm also a founder but quit playing because MoM leads LotRO into a very wrong direction from my point view. The changes in group play are too big (since release) - class balancing is broken, esp. when you are playing a guardian - groups do not need a tank class.
I know that some people like the 'new' group concept (= no need for tank and healer) but I'm a classic MMORPG player and that's somehting which is essential to me. Next thing is the guardian itself - with MoM it is the worst tank I've ever seen in a fantasy game: not the fixed agro problems, the circumcised defense is the main issue of this class.
LotRO changed from a lovely detailed MMORPG to a mass-product .
If I could I would erase MoM from LotRO and love to play the 'original' game and its 'feeling'!
There is only one thing (left) in LotRO which is really nice and steady: the landscape! The architects are doing an incredible goob job.

I assume he means millions have played it. Witch, is true. As for your issue with group make up, it seems perhaps you have just been to conditioned to think every group must have a tank, mage, and healer, and that they must be pure class types. Well, LOTRO does not agree, and i for one, love this fact. I love the huge number of group combination's that are made viable while still maintaining some of the more pure roles of classes. This is achieved by all classes in LOTRO being hybrids, but no so much that their secondary function negates another classes first. This, to me is brilliant, and a much needed innovation in this gonra.
Aggro is not broken. I suspect, you are accustomed to being needed in every group bar none, and are somewhat miffed that you can be replaced by any number of mixes of other classes, im sorry for you, but this is great for everyone else. Sorry you cant be tank king. Class balance means jack, and shitt in this game (to a point) so other than keeping up with the jonse's, or some other vanity, who gives a crap? Turbine has one of the most balanced games out, I'm not sure how you think any class "is not balanced" especially if you don't understand the concept of the classes, and that the holy trinity doesn't matter here.

I don't know whether millions played LotRO or not - but if so and 'most' of them love it where are they now? Don't take me wrong - I think LotRO is a nice game but it is definitely not 'the' MMORPG. The MoM changes in the game and gameplay are nothing for me - as I wrote. Whether you understand this or have your own (other) view is meaningless for me - it will not change my opinion.
And yes, you are right, the hybrid function of classes is an issue (for me). At release all classes had a clear defined function and that was one of the reasons I liked the game from start on. With the first rework (or completion) of the champion they began to water down the class functions.
By the way, my main is a loremaster - so no reason to be 'miffed' because of the broken guardian-defense.

My exact feelings on LOTRO. I was a founder of 1.5 years until the release of Moria. The expansion was horrid IMO. Up until Moria LOTRO is great fun.
Its really too bad because LOTRO could have been much much more if Turbine had taken a different approach or a different company had control. They constantly try to give it a RP feel with updates but in my experience it has the least RP options then any other MMO I've played (with the exception of cosmetics and music). Also end-game was terrible....LOL. An expansion sometimes ruins a game, and for me Moria did just that.
I may return someday to run around and see the sights and catch up with some old friends but there are much better MMOs out right now with much more to offer unfortionately.
I guess my overall concern about LotRO really is what now? What next? What can LotRO give to the MMO genre that it hasn't already? Add more books? Add more classes? Add more levels? Great... but part of the problem is that the books are very limited in scope. In LotRO, there is less freedom for what your character can actually do in comparison to other MMOs. Ultimately, I think that is the major problem and in the long run will cause the game to stagnate. The book system is interesting, but very constraining.
Back in EvE. Started with BatMUD. Main MMOs have been EvE and DAoC.
I started to write about my own personal online gaming "pedigree" and realized, who gives a poop about all of that? The point of this thread is to talk about the press conference as well as the thoughts presented by others here.
Personally, and for me, LOTRO is the best game I have ever played. Having been gaming since 98 and been in a number of games in various incarnations and genre, this is the one I have been looking for. And, excuse my for sounding a bit TOO geeky, this is friggin LORD OF THE RINGS! Who did not enjoy the Lord of the Rings movies? I think it was one of the best incarnations of a wonderful set of books. We all know how the story ends, but I want to see how Turbine implements it.
With the way the game is running, it's going to be around for a while. And there is so MUCH stuff to do in the game, that for those casual players, it will take forever to complete (only have 3 pieces of the radiance set on one character that reached cap; of the other 3 characters I play, two are at 50 or above, the other at 34). My only frustration is I don't have the time to contribute to my kins' quests of completing their armor sets as well as achieving my own characters goals.
I pesronally loved Moria. The biggest dungeon I have EVER been in a game. For those of us who have played DND and been in Undermountain can appreciate this expansion.
The ONLY complaints I have of the game are as follows:
Fix the anti-exploit monster bug please (don't know if it's been fixed since last week)
I hate trait grinding. Should be a better way to do this.
Great... but part of the problem is that the books are very limited in scope. In LotRO, there is less freedom for what your character can actually do in comparison to other MMOs.
This is simply untrue. You are mistaken, you can optionally skip the entire book line of quests. If you only do the books however, you will miss about 70% of the games content.

I to continued to play LOTRO simply because it was Middle Earth, but after the first expansion I realized that Turbine wasnt going in the direction I had hoped they would. I to waited on LOTRO for years and jumped on it once it came out....only to find myself dissapointed with the company running it. My only wish would be for a different company to take over or remake it...but all we all know thats not going to happen. :-(
Since leaving I've seen 3-4 MMOs that make the content in LOTRO laughable. I almost regret spending my 2years paying Turbine...although there were defiently some good times in the old world (pre Moria).
IMO the reality of the MMO world is this. WoW is the best one out, hands down. The content and options avialable to you in WoW are unbeatable by any MMO right now, so why pay for any less? Sure the graphics arnt top notch but graphics dont make a game great, the developers do. I hate to say it but WoW will continue to be the top MMO until a new MMO comes out with the fresh feel players are looking for.
Until we see companys grow some balls and make some unique and fresh MMOs I'll personally stick to WoW simply because its a great a game with endless things to do. 10+ million subscribers can't be wrong.

I'm glad you're enjoying WoW, but let's put the '10+ million subscribers can't be wrong' to rest, OK? I don't determine what I enjoy in music, TV, movies, games or anything else by what's popular. I played WoW for 3 years, had fun for about the first half of that, and now it bores me to tears. 10+ million subscribers *can* be wrong for some of us, so let's leave it at that.
(deleted original post) I started to write about my own personal online gaming "pedigree" and realized, who gives a poop about all of that? The ONLY complaints I have of the game are as follows: Fix the anti-exploit monster bug please (don't know if it's been fixed since last week) I hate trait grinding. Should be a better way to do this. Hasta.
I to continued to play LOTRO simply because it was Middle Earth, but after the first expansion I realized that Turbine wasnt going in the direction I had hoped they would. I to waited on LOTRO for years and jumped on it once it came out....only to find myself dissapointed with the company running it. I only mentioned 10+ million to prove a point bud. I didnt follow the crowd. I tried WoW, left to try some other MMOs and came back 2 years later realizing its the best MMO out. Personally I'm waiting on a company to grow some balls and try something new in the MMO world. WoWs great but we need something fresh and unique IMO.

Keep the updates coming Turbine!!! You'll need em to keep the die hard LOTRO fans around. I was a die hard until the Moria pile of crap was released LOL.
An update a week even...FTW!!
"I play Tera for the gameplay"
If WoW = The Beatles
and WAR = Led Zeppelin
Then LotrO = Pink Floyd

"I play Tera for the gameplay"
I guess my overall concern about LotRO really is what now? What next? What can LotRO give to the MMO genre that it hasn't already? Add more books? Add more classes? Add more levels? Great... but part of the problem is that the books are very limited in scope. In LotRO, there is less freedom for what your character can actually do in comparison to other MMOs. Ultimately, I think that is the major problem and in the long run will cause the game to stagnate. The book system is interesting, but very constraining.
Back in EvE. Started with BatMUD. Main MMOs have been EvE and DAoC.
