DO others who play Aion see this 1/2 delay prior to attacking a mob! (Not lag  related)

Thanks a lot lol. At least there is 1 person who can understand me :p

I believe everyone has understood you. Allow me to explain why lag would cause a delay just when your starting to attack something.

When your moving and your lagging because your in NA and the servers are in china your toon is a few seconds behind where you percieve it to be.  (Behind on the server)

When you finally get to the monster there is a delay of the relay of information as to your toon's location, you look like your right next to it on your screen however your character doesn't attack for the time it takes for the server to catch up to your screen.

This happens all the time in FFXI, all their servers are in Japan, NA customers experiance the game around 2 seconds behind the Japanese players, really hard to camp against them.

Edit: as to why your skills are on time when your already next to the monster?  Simple there is no server delay telling your character that he "can't use that ability yet" because of range issues.

The animation starts immediately and it looks like its less laggy.

One thing to remember, there are as of now 6 Regions, each region is run by a different IP company. Some maybe better than others :)

Main point being: There is a delay when you enter in fighting stance before you start to execute skills, so draw your weapons before combat to make sure you do not lose more time before you can execute your skills.

OP it seems like you skipped over this man/woman/childs response when it was really the only one you needed.  I had the same issue, turned off auto approach, ended the problem.

Thanks for highlighting this post, I was unaware of the auto aproach turn off option.

I can see why this would fix the issue as manually telling your toon where to go would probably be less latent than a script telling it where to go from a click.

Your gonna need that option in the abyss during flight pvp ?

could you not just turn the option back on when you go into the abyss?

I mean I see the need for it when your flying and things get you all turned around, for sure, but when your in a ground based combat situaion or even just questing in the lower level areas it seems annoying at times to have the option enabled.

If you are pvping everyone is going to be suffering from the same handicap.  Which means it's no longer a handicap.

When pveing it's a handicap not shared by mobs.

I see many missed my post especially the op:). I will try to explain the issue, again. I tested this sometime ago with a mage. There is lag and many explanations here try to explain it, but, there is more than lag. The fighting animation will delay things further (1st hit only).

I have tried two simple tests back then:

Hit the mob with a spell in normal stance (no weapons out before engaging the mob).

Hit the mob with a spell in fighting stance (weapons out).

In the first test it took me about 2x as much to cast that spell as it did in the 2nd test. The fighting stance thus gives an additional delay  that can be avoided if one draws the weapons before engaging. Playing manually also softens the range problem but you need to draw your weapons out (fighting stance) before engaging a mob if you want to make sure the first skill responds faster.

At least that is how the combat system worked when i tried it :). Good night for now.

the op is definitely not talking about the drawing delay since when you /attack you will draw your weapon and start following, so whenever you reach the mob your weapon is already drawn and there is no further delay because of it.

    Hey Mark

Which region and server do you play on? I am playing on the second region (2nd one form the region selection screen). I will try to move over to the server where you play, this might get rid of this latency thing.

Thanks for sharing your experience :)

Played it at PAX08, it used servers in LA (California). No lag, it was awesome. :)

    Envy consumes my very being!

I'm excited to hear there was no latency issues or "game lag" when the server is actually on your continent.

That is not true if you are relatively close to the mob, the animation delay took at least more or less 2 sec here:X, to makes things worse positioning to the mob automatically instead of manually (wich i talked about it in the 2 posts) will make things worse. Otherwise the latency lag was very doable since i had no packet loss and the like.

I played with around 600 ms, add the animation delay (and there are other delays, like the end of some spells where ur char gets stuck about 0.5 sec upon finishing them)  and in my case you need to get used to go to combat stance way before the combat starts. If i was with my sin i would draw weapons  20 meters or so before reaching the mob, around 10 meters and less and it was still very noticable (you probably take less than 1.5 sec to reach 10 meters at the normal char running speed).

Thanks everyone for sharing your knowledge xD

I will try to switch off the auto-attack option and see if it makes the fighting fluid.

First of all, I like Aion and been waiting for it for a long while, since they brought out the first cinematic lol. I have started playing Chinese BETA and found that some functions of the game is ... annoying/frustrating.
It maybe just me lagging, so Im here to talk to you guys and find out if it's me or if the game needs some work in the named area.
Ultimately my intention is to make Aion more fun/enjoyable. I will play it no matter what lol.
Basically my frustration is the 1-2 second waiting time before you char hits the mob even though you have clicked "Attack" icon and your char has ran upto the mob.
    Annoyance/Frustration while fighting

This is what is happening to me:

    1) I use TAB to select a target

    2) press the 1 key (above Q key on keyboard) as it is mapped for "Attack/interract"

    3) char draws sword and runs to selected target mob

    4) char stops there for 1-2 seconds (this is my annoyance, why on earth would your char do that?)

    5) char hits the mob after 1-2 second of zoning out, sometimes mobs sense my presence and hit me before I hit them, EVEN though my char has ran upto it first with the sword/s drawn out .. and was waiting to be hit first? LoL

    1) I use TAB to select a target (I use tab but I would rather simply select the target by clicking on them, tab scrolls through multiple mobs closest to you so I just get to it by clicking the one I want to attack)

    2) press the 1 key (above Q key on keyboard) as it is mapped for "Attack/interract" (Guess I just prefer the "right click, I don't use the maped keys unless of emergency and even then I still find it fine to just "click select)

    3) char draws sword and runs to selected target mob (Instead of right clicking the mob initially, just left click instead, this will target the mob until you are ready to right click for an assault or just click a certain attack after you have it targeted by left clicking)

    4) char stops there for 1-2 seconds (this is my annoyance, why on earth would your char do that?) (It's your lag, I have the same thing happen but not very often because I just bought a super gaming lap top, the game is so smooth it will not seem like lag but it is)

    5) char hits the mob after 1-2 second of zoning out, sometimes mobs sense my presence and hit me before I hit them, EVEN though my char has ran upto it first with the sword/s drawn out .. and was waiting to be hit first? LoL (That's your lag again lol, when our version of the game comes out I'm almost positive you will see less of that)

My personal issues are these; Gladiators are too darn over powered, how the heck are they able to kill 6 mobs at a time at lvl 10 and as an assassin at lvl 13 I can only take 2-3 the most and barely survive??

Priests are even more over powered as you cannot even get close to them, and when you do get close by rushing them you are confronted by an invisible shield that absorbs all damage while they DoT the crap out of you, "ice chain" you, and watch you die as they toss deadly spells in your face. Same gripe I have with priest is the same with mages, except mages have no choice but to die if you get the best of them. A priest can stand there and heal themself while your pleading for your life.

Maybe I just need to play assassin better but I think I'm pretty good so far..... or maybe I should just lvl a gladiator or a priest.

Not really sure how you can complain about balancing issues when you're talking about the first 4-5 hours of leveling. It takes no time at all to level during those levels, and you don't really confront any people of the opposing faction at those levels either.

Well everyone has their own way of playing, for me I don't lvl lvl lvl even during the first 20 lvls because I take my time and explore everything I can even if some of the content is in another area where I can't actually get to it's good to be prepared. I was'nt really complaining, but I can see how you could take it that way so, yeah.

Although I havent confronted anyone from the apposing faction as yet, there is still "friendly pvp" that you can participate in, just like in WoW so that's where I'm coming from when I talk about what they can do. Every class gets a heck of a lot better as you lvl so I'm sure it all balances out in the end, as I was looking through all the upcoming spell books each class gets to purchase. This may be the low lvls but I believe if the gladiators, clerics and scorcerers are showing such potential already I can only imagine the hype of mixing it up with the Asmodians at lvl 25.

In short, I guess I only posted the above gripes because I had a horrible pvp night LOL. All in good fun though.
