Maybe devs should think a bit outside of the box  like that theres more than elves ,warriors ,spaceships and adaptions of known Movies. A fresh breeze is needed badly imo ...too many steaming piles

Maybe Star wars thingy could turn out to be good ...but that all hope i got atm

i got to agree. im pretty sure all the games coming out are:

-sub par games looking to make a buck off their IP (all the stars, wars/gate/trek)

-duplicates of what we already have with 1 'feature' like limited flying thrown in like aion. which btw saw its numbers seriously dwindle in asia once they started
charging..though it still has a good crowd but hey, so does the original lineage..

-smaller companies trying to make a splash, but one small problem, their games aren't very good (fallen earth)

    -not mmorpgs! (gw2, global agenda)

    Negative Joe? not angryjoe? hehe

    fyi GW2=guildwars 2 will be a mmo.

thanks for the info, have not been following it since wasn't a fan of the first.

i just figured since the first GW wasn't reall an mmorpg that the second one wouldn't be..if it really is maybe ill have to check it out.

ugh please dont tell me you fall into the "gw isnt a real mmo mentality...

Its massive its multiplayer its a rpg---- obviously its not a mmo....

As far as measuring greatness by financial success, I seriously doubt TOR will ever have more than half the numbers of WoW, and that is an incredibly optimistic estimate.  Many WoW players can barely read, let alone follow a story or make decisions, the mass markets are generally left for the morons.

Man your kinda taking shots everyone arent you with your "Mythics Boring games" and "drooling, illiterate WoW players". Just one question, do you own a flame retardant suit?

For starters, Mythic has released a mmo. 2 to be exact.
Neither would be what I call boring.
Warhammer and DAOC are both solid games.
DAOC is still remembered by many to have had some of the best pvp in any mmo.

Whether or not Biowares take on Star Wars will guarantee them a great game is yet to be seen because its not even released yet.

SW:ToR - The first MMO with quests that have choices and don't just tell you to do something. Also a good guess it will be the MMO with the best story. BioWare's lead developer is working on it.

Lego Universe – Make anything you want, make things with other people, explore a world created by other people. Things you make can be destructible or not. You don't get exp for doing quests you get bricks. Make something really cool and you can buy all the pieces to make it in real life. This will probably be the best user created content MMO.

nah i think whatever the next great game is gonna be, it'll be something of a hidden gem. You know the kind of game that will pull you in, but won't have much in the way of advertizing for it.

or a game with so much innovation and orignal stuff that floors everyone that sees it. (NOTE: the second scenario is a piece of fiction not to be taken seriously)

One being BioWare's induction into mmo's with a promising IP and second being the reformed NCSoft's newest aaa title already breaking records and being almost bug free.

The color you've chosen to use for your text in all your posts is really hard to read.

Everybody has bias.  Better to be blatant about it than try to be sneaky and trick people who wouldn't agree with an honest argument.  Mine is in favor of well-crafted stories.  A game could have the best PvP system ever invented, and if the story for the PvE content was severely lacking, I personally would still find it boring.  Hence my opinion of Mythic games.  Even if they are the kings of PvP or RvR, I don't recall any serious arguments claiming they were great storytellers or pioneers in PvE gaming.

As for WoW, I didn't even say most of the players were illiterate morons, just many.  That isn't even a criticism, just a statement of fact, and from a pure business standpoint, appealing to them was a very smart decision on the part of Blizzard.  The fact that it is a spoon-fed easy mode experience is what allowed it to attain mass popularity.  That being said, the moron market has been more than adequately served, it would be smart for future games from other developers to focus on un-served or underserved markets.

Does BioWare's take on Star Wars absolutely guarantee them a great game? Of course not, nothing is guaranteed.  But looking at their track record, it is *far* more likely than not than SWTOR will be a home run in terms of both quality and polish.  Popularity and longevity are much harder to make any kind of accurate prediction for.

The next game that looks really good is KOTOR.

Thinking Aion looks awesome is more valid than thinking it's a crappy Asian grinder, because the first is an opinion, the second is a prejudice.

Unless a new publisher joins the fray I must also go with Bioware's new creation or Blizzards next MMO. When it comes to THQ's 40K MMO I am slightly sceptical since I know very little about the crew at Vigil games. Initially Relic posted the ads for new positions and I hold Relic in very high regard as well - but when they moved the title to Vigil...

The more interesting discussion is also how to develop PvE content. In the early days the developers very much tried to get as much story telling as possible into the games. Right now the MMOs are moving more and more into the FPS direction. Personally I hope that they try to expand the story telling aspects rather than move away from them.

So according to you most Wow players are "illiterate morons"... and it is even a statement of fact.

    Wow.

Give me a link to those stats please.

You DO realise that by making such statements you insult in one stroke 6 million people :)))

"Spoon fed", "moron market", "easy mode","illiterate morons"....

What about a great game design people like to PAY for and PLAY for years on end....

     Wow is a G A M E. Got that ?

Again, I never said most, I said many.  Nobody who has ever sat through barrens chat can rationally argue that there isn't a high moron population in WoW.  Also, saying that a substantial portion of players are morons can't honestly be construed as an insult to every player.  Big stretch.  That being said, I stand by the assertion that relative to other online games, WoW is a pretty easy, spoon-fed experience.  There is nothing wrong with that, if it is what you are looking for, but let's be realistic about what it is.  Also, never said the only market for WoW was morons, just that they had the moron market fairly tightly clinched.  Personally, the easiness of WoW doesn't bother me nearly as much as the uninspired writing and lack of real choices.  I don't actually enjoy it all that much when a game becomes "harder" by making everything take longer and forcing you to spend time on things like mindless grinding: I just like the side effect that has of steering away some of the more annoying player populations.
