I have not played Darkfall as of yet though I would like to try it out some time down the road when it's gotten some polish and bugs worked out. I could care less if Tasos logs are fake or not, it doesn't matter to me. I have never been one to trust reviews of a game, I have seen too many good games get shitty reviews and shitty games getting a good reviews. I do enjoy reading well written reviews of truly terrible games so I though I would give this review a read and I have to say it was one of the worst written reviews I have ever read, the reviewer is so full of bias and comes through so clearly in his words its rediculous. "anarchic control system" WTF is an anarchic control system ? Does the control scheme support anarchy or something ? Nice try at being clever but completely pointless words. The reviewers criticism of the loot and bag management system was nothing more than a childish whine and not a review of the system. The system is the way it is for a reason and even though I do not and never have played Darkfall I fully undertsand why it is the way it is. Then the review just proceeded to slagthe game because its an FPS style game. Well too bad for the reviewer that not all MMOs are just like WoW. Anyways, the review itself was bad, and only 9 hours played to review an MMO ? Come on, thats pathetic. I'd expect 9 hours from some fat youtube reviewer but for a supposed professional writer I am sorry. Spend at least a month playing the game 6-7 hours a day to review an MMO please. It's like those guys that play the Eve tutorial for 5 minutes then feel they can review the game fairly based on that.
Sites like Eurogamer wait to see whats popular or unpopular and then review based on how many people they can attract to their shitty website, this guy should be sacked, one of the worst example of obvious bias I ever seen, and yes I'm playing the game. Nearly every in the review was false and it was obvious he had'nt hardly played at all.
After all do think if everyone on the forums were praising Darkfall he would have written the review like this ... no he would'nt he's seen the amount of ridiculous and unwarranted hatred for the game and jumped on the bandwagon ... simple as that really .
Oh and yes it has got issues . and no its not perfect but what Mmo has'nt had problems eh ? Not many thats for sure.
I agree with Tasos when he says it's a niche game.
I never really enjoyed WoW, Lineage 2, Guildwars, and many games the mass do really love. Most of the time it's all about PvE, questing, and as soon as you hit level max, PvP. But then again, you would have to farm for hours in PvE dungeons in order to get the right stuff for PvP. On the other hand, I loved Neocron and Face of Mankind because they were all about PvP and their sandbox side would give me the freedom to play them my way. Of course, these games didn't have the much bestest graphics ever made, or an awesome storyline with truly epic quests with incredible rewards for the players ... and because of all this, many players would just spit at them.
Right now I'm enjoying Darkfall online. I'm not saying the game is flawless, but it doesn't mean it's not fun at all. Some of us will like it, many may not, but please, don't spit on it. Giving a bad reputation to a game that doesn't really deserve it may scare some potential players who may have really loved it. I know it, it almost happened to me. When Darkfall launched, some feedbacks were so hateful, I was wondering if I should really buy it right now ... which I didn't. I waited for a couple of weeks before realizing I was so bored with the current mmo, I had to try something different. I finally bought Darkfall and I must say : I don't regret it.
It's a niche game for PvP lovers and players who enjoy a great hardcore gameplay (as UO and SWG precu were) ... at the expense of awesome graphics with lolshaders and the ability to fly at level 10.
You can flame my post, doesn't mean you have a point.
Edit: yay for first post after 2 years.
Glad to see your not one of the countless sheep without their own mind ! Hope you are enjoying the game , I certainly am.
I would never expect a small budget game like Darkfall to be bug free right away. Like Edell I used to play Neocron and I was in Eve at launch when it was a small budget niche market game and everyone was saying how bad it was and how it was gonna fail. If the devs believe in what they are doing and work at it then Darkfall will succeed like Eve did.
Here's one of my favorite quotes from the review that really shows how narrow minded the reviewer is. It's truly laughable.
"Worse still, the entire economy is player-driven"
I will definitely be trying out Darkfall in the future.
