I would call what you are doing a trolling - you are shifting the topic of discussion, a relevant and important topic.

I, personally, gathered quite a bit of new info from reading replies in this thread and was glad to see it.

It is true that before update 1.2, there are some "gaps" in the quest arcs, forcing some to grind.

However with the extra content included in 1.2 grinding is drastically reduced. Supposedly NCWest is working on localizing the 1.2 update and we should have it either at launch or very very near to it.

It is difficult to answer this question simply due to the number of versions floating around. If we have to start with version 1.0, then there will be some substantial grinding. If we get 1.2 then there won't be much.

So for right now we simply do not know for sure

But he is right about "everything is a grind" in mmos, just some to better at hiding it. WoW did it with fun quests... so does Aion.

If you don't get enjoyment from the quests then you just see that as a grind...

Aion is a hybrid mix of Western style MMOs (WoW/LOTR) and Korean Style MMOs (Lineage 2 to be exact)

Like I said, doing these quests, I don't feel like I'm grinding in anyway.

But what level areyou, any game the grind will never set in from 1-20, or even mid 30's, it is when you reach that up tier is when you get the feel for the xp. Lineage 2 , I could grind out 1-20 in little under 2 hours, 20-35 took me around 4 days and the 35-40, the grind really set in , that was at release , before they added any type of xp bonuses or patches that eased the grind. The grind was so percise, that our clan made excel sheets to make sure we didn't waste money on SS , and we where completely taken out of a feeling of a game and put into a huge math equation.

If you havent reached the upper tiers yet, I think it is fair to say , that people in these early showing have not a clue about the higher tier content.

Yes LotrO "hides the grind" better, becuase it is an authentic peice of software with real thought for the players, the players time spent play and the over all flow of the content. Korea has a long way to go to achieve this, and we will see if Aion can deliver , through mid and high tier content ?

Think NcSoft track record for costumer service, Tabula Rasa, and the defaming of R.G. will have a little more impact on this games success, they are the Korean version of Sony.

I respectfully disagree.  Grind is obvious in just about every MMO, or just about most RPGs where you have to complete X to get to the next level. LotrO didn't hide any grind for me, it was boring from the start with nothing to deviate from the bland PvE.  Thats my take on LotrO, and I know yours is obviously different and rightly so.

The RvR aspects of Aion are enough to catch my attention, but I've never been one for asian grinders anyways due to the extreme amount of hours you have to put in to get anything of any substance out.  Thats not to say I won't try Aion, and thats no slight to NCsoft because they have their own demographic.

Its obvious this is no Guild Wars, but at this time I don't see any indication of it being remotely close to Lineage 2 stature grinding either.

Also some could consider a "grind" being a matter of opinion as well... as you said you feel LotrO "hides the grind" better, but that may be because you enjoy how you level.  If Aion allows quick leveling through RvR then I might not feel the grind as much either... to me .. that could be a way to "hide the grind".

Thats a good statement, even though chinese players are the worlds house for Leveling services , lol. Of course they blew through the content, they have multiple pepople playing one account to test and see how they will do when they iopen shop for power leveling services lol.

Ignorance at its greatest.  Your statement is no different than saying that all Americans are a bunch of slack-jawed morons that are only looking for the next object of material value.

After playing both Korean and Chinese launches (currently playing Chinese) I can say that the game is no harder to level in than it was in EQ 2 when it first launched.  But of course you and several others in this topic don't want to listen to those that have actually played the game and would rather listen to unfounded assumptions from the interwebz.

Someone I know lvled a sorcerer from lvl1 to lvl40 in 60 in-game hours by using crafted MP & HP pots (and no he was not asian).  Keep in mind this was an ALT and he knew what he had to do to lvl fast, also he had guildies to help out.

The best I could ever do was make lvl30 in 4 weeks, Playing hours varried from day to day from min:3 hours to max:6 hours.

Velika: City of Wheels: Among the mortal races, the humans were the only one that never built cities or great empires; a curse laid upon them by their creator, Gidd, forced them to wander as nomads for twenty centuries...

    CHILL DAWGS!!!

I also played lineage2 (since c3 to c5 before gracia) and i dont think its a grind, BUT APEARS TO BE, why?, probaly the guy started playing warrior, just like me, and as developers like to NOT give us plate armor and 2 handed weapons at begining it apears its gonna be longer, i stoped playing chinese cause i wanted to party and none wanted, so sux to be a south american black guy =(

Anyway lets chill the nerd enrrage (berserk lvl 2 =p) and wait for the na/eu release =D

    now: GW2 (11 80s).
    Dark Souls 2.
    future: Mount&Blade 2 BannerLord.
    "Bro, do your even fractal?"
Recommends: Guild Wars 2, Dark Souls, Mount&Blade: Warband, Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning.

I am in the last tier, to tell the truth, from level 1 to 25 I found the leveling too fast, I really loved the initial areas and I would like to spend more time on them.(mid and high level areas are even better)

As I said you can try the game, you may like it or not, but you will be able to form your own opinion.

During the 15 day Chinese trial people have gotten to 40+ and level 50 is max . And just as the guy before me said , getting deep into the 20s doesnt take very long and you can do it just questing.

Some of the quests in this game are pure awesomeness ...  :)

XP grind is not extremely fast, I already told you it is on par with EQ2 (before), Lotro and maybe War (a bit slower I think) but it is slower than Age of Conan and WoW...

    Not similar to L2 anyway.

In all these games you can play like a maniac and reach max level in 15 days, but usually you will not enjoy what the game has to offer...

Solareus, it seems you want to dislike the game, I am ok with that, but if you try the game you will at least have real motives to dislike (or enjoy) .

But one thing I can say for sure, AION is more polished and has more content (from pve to rvr) than any of these games when they were released.

Will this game be souly based around pvp then ? Shadowbane is the only other game I've played where leveling was not thefocus, and pvp content was.
IF the XP Grind is extremely fast, what is it fast for ? I'm genuinely curious,  my thoughts but they are mine and mine alone. I will never disrespect anyonein this the community, becuase putting the block tool on is a lot easier :)

The 15 number he gave has no context at all. How long did they play each day? Did they play other versions? Did they read up on what to do beforehand?

and people reached max level in wow in a day...it just depends how mush a day they played.

the levelling is like eq2 1-80 before they made it faster.

I don't know why i never see this answere dproperly,it is always people telling their little stories about the game.

Grinding is when you do NOTHING except play for the next level, that is level grinding.

There is quest grinding, witch means that is all you play and do is quest grind.

There is XP grind witch is killing 1500 mobs and lucky to get a level.

To me a game is a game,it is not grinding of ANY sort,if a game has many things for you to do ,other than ONE thing, then you are grinding and playing a VERY boring game, for whatever reason i cannot answer that, only the person grinding can answer as to WHY?

I guess it would make a VERY small amount of sense if someone said they are just grinding away because they enjoy the scenarios,or the graphics or the exploration. What has already been mentioned about AION is that most feel the starting areas are too small and not enough of them, that is why they accept the instancing or whatever you want to call it.

I hear a LOT about storylines, maybe players should actually roll out some of this information since, the ONLY story i gathered from the developer themselves is a god that banished two races and now they must fight each other for control of the abyss, not much of a storyline there,or is it?Two distinct races ,yet both can fly? umm weak plot there IMO.Both races get their wings at the EXACT same time, again weak storyline/plot.

I don't remember the RPG genre having flying warriors?Flying templars, flying RANGERS?? doh, they have totally botched the history of the RPG genre, just because they feel some childish niche[flying] will buy them some subscriptions.

Umm here is a good one...SKILLS are purchsed??not a tad bit weird?you LEARN skills you don't purchase them, this game is OLD SCHOOL asian game all over again ,EVERYTHING is old school nothing new at all, other than the ONE thing i always elude to>>>FLYING.This is ALL AION has done IMO,is bring in flying and hope that sells old content.Seems it has MANY fooled, not I,as i have played too many games ,including MANY Asian games,so i have seen it all before.

I think GRINDING should be the least of ANYONE's worries, ask yourself "What exactly am i doing in this game?",if you answer by saying "I am enjoying lots of different content and unique ideas" then you should feel satified you are playing a good game, that deserves your subscription money.

Grinding for most player it's camping a spawn until you outlevel them and move on to another camp.Dark Age of Camelot was like that in the beginning. They had quest but grinding was faster and paid better.DAOC had a good idea about questing. When they added some of them anyway.

A lot of them were very long and required help to finish .But they paid a lot in the end.Age of Conan,World of warcraft it's a quest grind. You fill up your journal and when 15 quest are over , you turn them and pick a new wave of quest until you outlevel the area and the npc send you to the next town/place.

Sadly , level based mmorpg it's either a mob grind fest or a quest grind fest. You're grinding.Questing seem Faster because you move more often. But it's basicly the same.

Sandbox game like ultima Online or Mortal online it's the only remaining solution if you don't like theme park mmorpg.

You need to read the lore again.

The 2 factions are the same race.

When the world was tored in two, the two side change physically.

The Eylos that lived in the light part of the world saw little change except for an increase in their beauty.

The Asmodian saw many changes. Having to walk on ground strewn with fragments of the tower, their feet became talons. Having to fight against beasts, their hands became claw-like. Furthermore, the darkness made their complexion change and their eyes grew red adapting to the absence of light.

Yeah um if you don't have grind there really isnt a point to having levels. I don't think any of us mind grind as long as we're having fun. That's the key. But you can't complain that an MMO has grind because it's not always a bad thing. As stated someone said before to most the bad kind of grind is sitting in one spot killing the same mob over and over

Check the video, you are misinformed about AION lore.

The video is just a little bit of the background, there are a serie os storylines ingame too, just like Guild Wars, Everquest2, FFXI, Lotro etc.

What the holy hell are you on about? The RPG genre is whatever people want it to be! A role-playing game is where you play the role of a character hence the name, hence why the first roleplaying games (paper and pen) had everything from Wildwest settings (Dogs in the vineyard), Surivival Horror (Cthulu) and of course fantasy (D+D) yet they all remained role playing games. Hell when it comes to computer gaming even things like GTA and Metal Gear Solid are roleplaying games to a certain extent.

The genre is one of the few that has no "set" conventions, are things like Mass Effect, Fallout 3 etc. not roleplaying games? Why then is Aion and the flight lore any different than post-apocalyptic settings or alien wars?

I'm sorry but that single sentance is one of the biggest loads of crap I've read on these forums recently.

    Obvious troll is obvious.

Starts out with 'it's nothing but a korean grinder with big boobs', to 'Aion is just lotro with wings', follows it up with 'omg I dont want to grind forever to get to max lvl' then to 'omg I dont want to get to max lvl this fast!'. Coupled with a 10 year old's arguments, he's not here to discuss the game.
