    What games have not failed?

World of Warcraft, EVE Online, Lord of the Rings Online and umm... darn.

By your own defintion, World of Warcraft is the only MMO in the history of MMOs that hasn't failed. Every game that has ever come out eventually lost subs. I guess when the day FINALLY arrives that World of Warcraft is pulling less than a million subs it will be a failure. But that would be after 5+ years as the number one MMO on the market. So it's safe to say your little standards are unrealistic.

But you guys still haven't answered my question. Just what is the intended purpose of trolling forums and predicting doom for all  games that aren't even in BETA yet? Is it because you lack attention in the real world or is there some method to your madness?

Because on a forum, discussion doesn't equal praiseal?

And maybe because we are greatly disappointed with the devs?

Yeah, 85% of the characters on any given server will be Jedi and Sith.

Have fun in Jedi-land and Sith-land.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure in this time period Bounty Hunters were more rare than Jedi/Sith, lol.

Really? Then why dont you go post on swtor.com? Im pretty sure that Bioware doesn't maintain mmorpg's forum boards. If your original intent was to reach the devs and make an attempt to be heard, then all of your hard work was for nothing. As for the rest beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

if the game isn't fully solo orientated then Jedi will tend to take the role of dps like burgs in LoTro or Rogues in WoW, they are a light armor, dex based, dps class. Meaning if you don't alot points into things like evade, force defence, and so on your going to die quickly.  Troopers seem to be the tank class so far, but then again we are apply game concepts that may be irrelivant to the game.

We also have no clue if this game will follow the Holy Trinity formula. It probably will, but you can never be to sure.

I think it would be nice if they got away from the tired DPS/Tank/Healer formula for class roles.  Realistically speaking how much damage you can do, take, or heal, should be based on more than just the class you select at level one.

In regard to healing, if you are a force user, and you want to focus on force healing, you should be able to do that.  Bounty Hunters are pretty independent, so it might make sense for them to be able to make their own medpacks.  Troopers in the military might be able to receive first aid training.

As for dealing damage, a force user could focus on developing his lightsaber abilities and/or force choke/lightning, rather than healing skills.  A Bounty Hunter or a Trooper could focus on mastering different weapon types.

On receiving damage, a force user should be able to focus on lightsaber deflection and force speed if he wants to, and Bounty Hunter/Troopers should have a variety of armors they can access.

Ultimately the "role" a player occupies shouldn't be defined solely by his class.  It doesn't need to be an entirely skill based game like SWG, but the skill options available for a given class could easily provide enough variety that any class could deal, take, or heal damage, whether through a WoW style tree system, or simply a KotOR style feat system.

    Well to the topic...

I never wanted to be a Jedi in SWG... I wanted to be a bounty hunter.  In fact when I was watching EP 4... 5 and 6 as they came out.. The Empire Strikes back was the movie that grabbed me just because of the scene with the bounty hunters.  I have no idea why and I was in my teens when I saw it.

EP4 I never wanted to be Luke or Han or Ben or even Darth Vader.... I enjoyed the movie and was more interested in Tat and Jawa's .. Sand People etc and wondering about them.  /shrug

I'm sure there will be plenty of Jedi... and probably after I've tried things I will make one... because they will have a unique story arc to see but as far as my "main" it will never be a Jedi...

  • CazNeergCazNeerg Member Posts: 2,198

My main *might* be a Sith, but it could just as easily be a Bounty Hunter.  Hell, if they made an Assassin Droid class, that would be my pick hands down.  I am just happy the game gives us the chance to play on the side of the *real* good guys for once, not work for the ineffectual Republic and their sanctimonius, inhuman Jedi "protectors."

I have yet to decide a main, they are all turning out to be very appealing. I'm not playing on the republic side though, hopefully they end up crossing factions sooner or later.

First and foremost... why hate so much on the concept of Jedi vs Sith?  Sure, SWG ended up being a glow-bat fest once the NGE hit and SOE handed out lightsabers like gub'ment cheese to welfare Jedi.  And SWG was in a timeframe where that type of population of Jedi shouldn't have been a possibility.  Aside from all of that...

SW: tOR may feature and focus on Jedi vs Sith.  So what?  Is this any different than the Pally vs DK focus that WoW seems to have now?  Or what about any other period in WoW's history where 2 FotM's were clearly head-and-shoulders above every other class... magnified by Arena's and BG skirmishes.  To facilitate the explosion of DK's, they were literally 'given away' to lvl 55+'s.

I hope that SW: tOR doesn't 'force' everyone down the same linear path that everyone else before and after you goes.  If that's the case, that sucks.  I'd like to see some sense of individuality in their game... character customization is a must.

This sounds so much like me, I got a chuckle out of it.

In EP4 I wanted to be a Jawa, in EP5 I wanted to be a Bounty Hunter (or a Wampa), and in EP6 I wanted to be either a Gamorrean Guard or Ewok.

EP1, EP2, and EP3 just made me want to inflict pain upon George Lucas for 'getting it wrong' :)

I agree with this...although if I played the game I would be a bounty hunter or some kinda gun weilding class.

For those of us who honestly enjoy playing Sith, Episode 3 wasn't nearly as bad as the other two.  In fact, speaking only for myself, I would say 3 is better than 6.  Episode 3 had something we had never been able to enjoy before, Jedi getting slaughtered like the vermin they are, down to the last man, woman, and even child.  Vader's purge of the Jedi Temple, Windu's fall from the tower, the glorious implementation of Order 66, all were moments of transcendent bliss.  Then the beautiful capstone of Vader shedding his weak shell and coming into his full glory, mmm.

At the risk of getting a slap for going off-topic, EP3 was ruined (for me) by Windu saying "This party's over" and Vaders "Noooooooooo" at the end. The rest was nice though.

I agree, Ep3 was pretty good. It really made up for things such as jar jar binks, it showed us just how brutal the Sith and Star Wars universe can be.

Oh yes of course. Who could forget the absolutely brilliant scene of the rise of Darth Vader, or should I say Return of Frankensteins monster. Please, that was shamefully bad.

EP3 is the better of the newest three, but that doesnt say much now does it.

Even with the cheesy "Noooooooo!" actually seeing Vader after three movies of staring at that whiny little cur Anakin was *very* refreshing.

What a depressing thread full of nonsense from the outset (apologies to the few that didnt post depressing or nonsense comments).

If you folks are so adept at predicting furure events might I suggest you focus your efforts on the lottery numbers.

    • They will release the game
    • They will probably take the theory that everyone will want to play Jedi/Sith into account
    • They will find some way to limit this (I would make them create a non jedi char first and get it to a certain lvl to unlock jedi)
    • The game no fail or succeed until AFTER the game is released
    • The only way the devs can fail is if they never release the game

My advice is STFU and wait for a free trial after release.  That way you waste no time bitching now and no money then.  Win  / Win

I used to visit this site a lot however in recent years it has become the home of negative forum posts, illogical opinions and tantrums so I visit less often.

    Played or Beta'd: UO / DAOC / Horizons / EQ2 / DDO / EVE / Archlord / PirateKingsOnline / Tabula Rasa / LOTRO / AOC / Champions / Darkfall / Mortal Online / DCUO / Rift / STO / SWTOR / TSW
